Hi Lucielle - I get bored easily - what can I say!
A friend I contacted a few weeks ago about the counter says he and his colleague can come and quote tomorrow and may be able to fit me in the week after next. He reckons it will be in the #300-600 range - with anything over 300 charged by the hour rather than the day. Very excited. I had a bad feeling about the other guy anyway.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Its good to trust our intuition...If you have built castles in the air, your work should not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them

Thanks Lucielle and DIA - yes intuition can save us from many misadventures. I also assembled a mini grey storage ottaman ( £15 from BnM) which looks smart, can hold laundry or clutter and can be sat on. My cleaner came today which was fab. She really likes my paintings and has been doing some of her own too and shared her photos - they are lovely. I've rearranged my front room some more but need continue decluttering. I am going to remove a whicker basket drawer set from the lounge - and reduce it's contents and maybe get rid of it altogether. May try and sell it on FB.
I have moved the cabinet I emptied the other day to be next to my desk to create an L shaped work zone in my living room. They are the same width as my desk - so two side by side is giving me the right sort of width that I need it I add an office chair in here. I may buy some more painting canvases as I am really enjoying painting currently. I still need to get past my block on selling stuff - it's not just my art - it's everything - we tend to give it away rather than sell. Still art is therapeutic for me and keeps me sane. I may get a second lamp to match the one I bought last week as I really like it in the space and it would help tie the room together.
I may get the friend coming over tomorrow to quote for the patio and drive widening as well - it may be that we could re-add that to our list - even if it is next spring rather than now. It depends what their quote came in at. The friend that is coming to quote - went down the place with land route a few years ago - and is now doing more manual work rather than the manager role he used to have but seems to be loving it. It would be nice to rekindle that friendship too - even if C19 limits our options for meeting up.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Gut feeling is a wonderful benefit and should be listened to. The rough price sounds a lot more realistic!
Selling things means the money can go towards projects. It's a case of weighing up what can be sold and what is negligible and is fine to be given away.
It would be great if you could rekindle the friendship, you would learn so much from him and have a better start rather than doing everything from scratch.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.4 -
Thanks MF. They quoted £510 including taking waste away, replumbing sinks and wiring hob. £40 extra if need new utility sink. So we are going with them. They will also quote for drive and external works.
One of the two is a pilot on part time furlough. Shows how tough things are currently.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

That price seems more reasonable, definitely have a feeling about trades people if you're not comfortable you're probably right!

H xI think this is especially true if you are a woman. I think we should be able to rent a man who will be able nod wisely at what they say, because I am so fed up with them looking at me like I am mad when I know something about the job they are supposed to be doing.Don't get me started on my kitchen. My "friend" was here when a friend of his came to quote for my kitchen & he knows we don't live together so it is my kitchen. So my friend said what he would like & I said well I don't want that I want this, so the guy said he would quote for both. Do I even need to tell you what the (one set of) drawings were? Incandescent is a very good word. Guess who won't get the job.

Why was your friend even saying what he wanted for? It's your kitchen! The least he could have said was 'she wants xyz'. Both as bad as each other! What I do not give, you must never take by force.
