Following with interest SH. It is difficult to know what to do for the best with buying and selling. Thanks DIA. Yes it is hard to know what to do. Hope your sale goes well.
Paid another £132 off CC. DH got an updated pension statement last month - only 1 month after his last one which is weird. It had gone up £1.3K - roughly £500 due to OH and his company's contribution - the rest due to the market. Things are very volatile currently! DH drives me mad with the sound of his gaming - particularly the keyboard - so we are buying a 'silent' one and seeing whether that is an improvement. He already uses earphones for me. Not cheap though.
The guy who came to quote to fit the worktops said he'd let me know price but couldn't fit me in until end of October. I could live with that if the price is okay. He thinks he may need to take the architrave off around my garage door in the utility room to get the counter out. He also warned me the tiles could break - but I knew that. DH has to go in the office today to deal with a crisis - and so do I. It means this week I will have gone in 3 times albeit for short stints. Still feels weird.

Well done on the CC, that one will soon come down.
Wholly agree about the pensions being up and down like a yo-yo at the moment.
If it's all sealant round the worktop, a thin sharp blade run round it first, to separate top from tiles, should be enough to slice then move the top off. A jigsaw will slice the top in half or more to get it out the room / house, unless you / your guy is going to sell it on?
You need to plan a break from DS, before he ends up wearing his IT equipment!Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.4 -
Thanks MF. The keyboard came and wasn't very quiet so it's going back and we are trying a different even more expensive one. DS had a free day trial at a co-working space in a city which he loved. He met a couple of people who may be interested in giving him some work. He needs some regular income first though so he can move and then also pay for that. It does look swanky though - and posh coffee is included LOL. He came with me tonight while I walked the dog.
I've just ordered a couple of dresses and managed to find a code which gave me about £17 off so I was really happy as I was about to pay full price when I thought I'd check!! Still hoping to do some art this weekend but didn't have the energy tonight. I worked late in the end too. Payday Tuesday.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Thanks Jwil. We have another month where financially we are plodding - as I finish paying off our kitchen (and other spend). Then hopefully we will be back on track. My job seems secure for now and I got several pieces of positive feedback last week which was good. I've asked DH to get a hearing test. He's promised he will - progress. Today I've had fun doing 3 acrylic pour type paintings. One against a black background and the other two all bright red, yellow, turquoise and teal with shots of silver. I had fun but the kitchen is in chaos with all the stuff that I dug out from the garage. DD is at work - I'm going to pick her up - nip to McD's on the way back and then hopefully do another painting while I've got all the stuff out. I've covered the kitchen table in tarp - and it's big enough that the tarp covers the floor slightly too which is good.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

The month will fly by and you will refocus financially. It will all be worth it.
I'm pleased you've done some art, it's long overdue and you always seem so much more relaxed afterwards. The colours sound wonderful, fresh and eye catching.
I'm hoping to start mine up again soon, just need to find a hiding place for books to give me the floor space.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.2 -
Wow, when you look at the figures, you've done amazingly since 2018!
The savings in stamp duty would get me moving quickly, if a move was imminent anyway.
We'd love to move somewhere rural that has land and properties to let on the land ie lodges etc. We currently live in Surrey and I'm always stunned at what our budget would buy us elsewhere. I'm rubbish at knowledge of counties outside of the M25/M4 area though. Need to exploreWe love the Peak District, Yorkshire, Derbyshire, Pembrokeshire but seems daunting to narrow down! Which county are you looking in?

Thanks OhSh...
We've been looking mainly around north and mid Wales in the hope we could then commute to our jobs if we had to. I think we have too much clutter to get rid of and too much decorating to do to be able to put our house on the market quickly. I also worry about the potential price drop next year. It would be nice to seal in a better price for this house - but if you are going up and paying over the odds on the next house it's not as good a deal as it may seem. Practically with DD still at 6th form it is also problematic to move. I think we are just going to continue chipping away at 'house projects' for now to try and get the house more sale / move in ready for a potential buyer. You never know - we may want to stay then!
Today was okay although a bit on the warm side. DD went on her bike which was a mini-miracle. She also came with me when I walked the dog. DH has to go into work 2.5 days this week. I need to bob in tomorrow too. My neck is really hurting after a new laptop from work - so need to do something about that. I get paid tomorrow... and plan to pay £1K off the CC we've been spending on recently. DH has seen a 20 month spending credit card we could apply for. I pointed out that was what had got us in trouble in the first place - I was mad at him while also tempted LOL.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

You are keeping all options open, exploring viability and trying to work out what's best to do, while sorting out your current home. When you have finished your home, I think you will have narrowed down all the options.
DD hasn't used her bike for a while, fair play to her for doing it.
You need a separate keyboard and a laptop riser, or several books, to lift the laptop to normal eye level. It's took me months but I'm back to working off dual screens.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.3
