OBL have caught up with you again. Well done on the big craft desk tidy , it doesn't take long for it to get a mess does it ! I haven't got a desk so my lounge looks like a bomb site when I do anything crafty.

Your DD is a credit to you and it sounds like a great idea what she wants to do , maybe you could join her but with less restrictions.

Glad you have 2 days off to rest , have a nice lunch with your mum and enjoy the craft market on Sunday.

Hi CL,it's funny I was looking through some some photos on my phone earlier and I had a photo on there from last year around this time of the big desk tidy of 2017:T it seems it's an annual thing,I think it's because the Xmas decorations are up and my messy desk spoils the effect so it prompts me to tidy it,Im really going to try to keep on top of if this year though if i do the no spend challenge next year I will definitely be making all the bits I've collected to keep me busy

DD is so careful with money and I think it's from growing up in a family where we have never had much of it,she will buy herself things but she always saves up for it,she had a credit card while she was at uni the first time and had about £500 on it by time she graduated and she hated it,it was paid off as soon as she got a job and now although she keeps it for emergencies she never uses it,I don't know where she gets her sensible head from because it's definitely not from me or her dad

It's great that you have a daughter who is so good with money, OBL. I was pretty good from saving from my Saturday & holiday job while I lived at home, but as I've said before in my own DFW diary, as soon as I went of to study for my degree & hit the bright lights & the big city.....Boom! Turned into Little Ms Spendypants & was straight into debt from the end of my 2nd term.......................bad habits which lasted until my 40s!! Ah well, I can't go back & live that time again as a born again budgeter, so I'll just have to enjoy the fact that I did finally see the light!

She is just so focused on savingand even if she buys something she will search for the best deal before she commits
When I was a teenager I was really good at saving,I saved enough money to buy myself my own horse and I would never waste money back then,it was when I met my ex that I went off the rails,he used to work at sea for three months and earned mega money after three months he would come home for 6 weeks until the next trip and he would blow the lot, we never put any money away and we could have bought a house with the money we wasted
When we split up for the last time a lot of my debt was because I couldn't afford to live in the house we had bought so I used my cards,I got myself out of that debt by being stupid and chucking it on my mortgage vowing never to get into debt again it's taken me a few years but I eventually ended up back in debt again but for 5 x the amount

I can honestly say that I have finally learned my lesson eventually :)

  • Well I had a rubbish nights sleep last night,I was awake until 1.30 so gave up trying to sleep made myself a cup of tea and read my book until 3am,I didn't wake up until 10 am and have been tired all day

Despite that I have had a nice day,I met my mum for lunch and a wander round town, the only problem now is because I only usually meet her on a Saturday I keep thinking it's Saturday:rotfl:

I must remember to set my alarm because I have to go to work tomorrow so hopefully I won't wake up in the morning and think it's sunday and I don't have to go in:eek: I really really don't want to go to work tomorrow,it was crazy when i left on Wednesday,I just hope it's calmed down a bit

DD surprised me again earlier, a week ago she reached £3000 in her savings and she said she wanted to treat herself after scrimping for so long,so she bought herself a Fitbit, she is walking to and from work so thought it would motivate her to keep it up,anyway she came down earlier to say she is sending it back, she has sat and thought about the benefits of having it and has decided that having the money in her bank outweighs any benefit of being able to track her fitness levels so back it's going

I just wish I had her mentality when it comes to money, she is really excited about starting her no spend challenge in January, she has even told me I will have to cut her hair :eek:,I said I didn't mind doing it so long as she doesn't mind looking a bit weird for a year :T she then told me about another woman who shaved all her hair off to save on hair dressing bills, she just shaves it at home, I'm not sure DD is brave enough to shave all her hair off but I did say to her she could do it for charity and then at least she would raise some money for a worthy cause :rotfl:

  • It's an interesting idea. Actually it'd be a great excuse with your DD1 too. You could always make people presents from your craft stocks? Have a use up year. I bet there are things you could regift too.
  • Blimey DD is certainly motivated. It'll be interesting to see how much she can save up :T.

My mum used to say that my DS2 would end up a millionaire, which wouldn't surprise me :rotfl:. He makes good money and is very frugal, so he has quite a lot of savings. No idea who he takes after :o.

Yes it would be a good excuse, could make gifts from my craft stash I'm just not sure I can persuade myself to part with any of them :rotfl:
