I used to find looking after young grandchildren very tiring (they are 19 and 24 now so dont require a lot of looking after :)). Its not selfish at all. When you are still working as a grandparent especially in a stressful job it is not the same as those who are home all day and can adjust their activities accordingly.
Yes like I said I think if I was retired I wouldn't mind so much. I also think if my health was better I would find it easier. When I have worked a 12 hour shift though the last thing I want to do on my day off is run round after a small child. The only sad thing about this situation is that I only actually get to see them if I babysit so if I don't do it I run the risk of not seeing them at all 😟
That's a shame if the only way you get to see your grandchildren is if you babysit them. I can totally understand why you are reluctant to look after them while you are still working. I have looked after ours at least one day a week since they were born, sometimes two and it was hard work when I was working but not so much now especially as DH helps and the eldest is at school.  We also do see them at the weekend though with their parents and in fact have just come back from a weeks holiday with them.  They are full on, like most young children though and we are always ready to hand them back.  It is lovely when they can chat and play games.  I am not really a baby person at all and prefer them at the age my grandchildren are now which is 3 and 5. If I had your health issues I would find it tough and you should not feel guilty at putting your wellbeing first.

Thank you for this reply I sometime feel like the worst nanny in the world because I'm not as hands on as others are. My DD1 quite often can only see things from her own perspective, she told me not to overdo it on the decorating the other day and I was quite touched that she was thinking of me until she added or you might be too ill to have DGs on Friday 🙀😟 I've come to terms with her attitude most of the time now 🙁

It sounds like you have a good Saturday spending time with your mum and enjoying having the house to yourself. DD am sure will be having a ball in Edinburgh, so much to see and do.
Hope you feel up to painting today , you are better than me would never dream of trying DIY of any sort , so I admire anyone who can do painting , decorating etc.
Have a good day and pain free as well.

I love the idea of painting, but the preparation is never ending sometimes and then if it takes 3 or 4 coats to cover 😖 I always get excited to begin and then hate it all the way through and then feel proud and accomplished at the end 😁

Well done tackling the painting. I start off really carefully then start getting bored and slapdash. I get paint everywhere 😩

My ex partner was rubbish at any kind of diy so I learned early on that it was better to do it myself, I've never been able to afford to get anyone in to decorate so have always done it,I used to enjoy it but don't any more

I hate the prep bit too luckily there was only one area that needed filling in this room, the skirting boards will need a quick sand which is annoying because I cleaned them ready for painting so didn't really need to 🙄 I'm the same excited to begin then get bored and want it all done yesterday. Strangely I've been enjoying painting this room, I think it's because it really needed doing and I'm relieved I've actually got round to doing it 😀

Thanks,I used to get paint everywhere but years of practice have meant I'm better at it now. I do get quite a lot on myself sometimes 😀

Sadly my painting plans for today have been scuppered due to a big flare up of pain 😫 I had a bad nights sleep so woke up tired with a very painful right shoulder and by the time I had eaten my breakfast and taken B out for a walk I was in pain all over so I took the maximum dose of painkillers and went back to bed, I'm really peed off about it because I wanted that wall finished today. I'm sitting here with a coffee contemplating doing it now but I've got work tomorrow so don't want to make myself worse. My body is alright now but my shoulder is still hurting slightly ,the painkillers will wear off at 7ish so I won't know how bad it feels until then. I have a shift pattern coming up with a group of two days off then three days off so I can get lots done then hopefully and I've also got Thursday this week free to do some as well.
