Awww, @Onebrokelady, I said I thought those sounded like hiatus hernia symptoms, didn't I? My Mum had one & your symptoms sounded so similar. Mum could go weeks with no symptoms at all, then do lots of bending over-type gardening jobs which would often result in her having a pain in her chest or upper back. She was told that weight loss can often just resolve the hernia naturally, to eat smaller meals & to avoid eating anything acid-causing too near to bedtime because of reflux. Mr F has also recently been diagnosed with a hiatus hernia. He actually went for a CT scan to see if his two inguinal hernias required surgery & was so surprised by the results, which showed that both of them have 'popped back in on their own' but that he has a hiatus hernia he didn't know about!
Anyway m'dear, always better to know.

I am hoping that just knowing your diagnosis will actually reduce your symptoms because if nothing else you will not have the stress of wondering what is wrong.  But I must confess that I found cimetidine much better than omeprazole, but they will no longer prescribe that for some reason.

Thanks Foxgloves you called it right 😀 I'm thinking weight loss will be my saviour and I'm also going to eat smaller meals,I do have a hearty appetite and can eat man size portions but lately I'm struggling to eat like I normally would so am grazing more, this seems to suit me at the moment. Mines a sliding hernia so it pops in and out all the time apparently

I'm hoping so too, I was very relieved when I left the hospital yesterday knowing they hadn't found anything sinister but to be honest I didn't think they would, I was thinking more along the lines of some sort of inflammation. I wanted to stop taking Omeprazole really because it can cause other problems but that won't be possible if they cant stop the reflux without it. I wonder why they stopped using cimetidine 🤷‍♀️

Just looked it up and it was banned in the USA for containing too much of a substance that was found to be carcinogenic. I'm not sure about the UK because they aren't as strict as the USA

When I used to be able to exercise properly I was ok but now I'm limited to what I can do it's more difficult, I will start walking from work again this week and see if that helps.
Being able to exercise does make it easier doesn't it? I'm glad of the warmer weather which makes it easier to go out.

Does it make any difference what time you eat? The jury's out on that one for me but I think there might be a link with the reflux.

Happy you have a cuase, but obviously not happy you have the sliding hernia. Do you feel more relieved knowing?

Hopefully you're able to start to manage it now and the symptoms start to ease with the smaller meals. x

Yes it's certainly easier to exercise when the weather is good, I don't mind going for a walk in the rain too much but B hates it 😀 I think timing of meals makes a big difference along with how much you eat at each meal, I'm trying not to eat too late at night,I don't t get heartburn but I can get a pain in my chest that could be mistaken for a heart attack 🙀

I'm reassured that there's nothing sinister going on with my digestive tract and I'm relieved about that. I'm not too happy that I have another thing that I will possibly have to learn to live with and I'm really hoping losing weight will get rid of my symptoms completely. I'm still feeling like there is a lump at the top of my throat and at best it's annoying at worst it hurts so I would like it resolved. I also have quite a bit of pain in my chest at times which is horrible. Hopefully my new measures will help. I should lose weight at some point just because I'm not eating full meals at the moment because it's too uncomfortable

I know we desperately need rain but why does it start off lovely and sunny to lull you into a false sense of security that persuades you it's ok to peg your washing out and then proceed to chuck it down once you've gone out and can't bring it back in again 😡😡

It’s been dry all day here and we desperately need rain, the garden is bone dry.
