Well it is good to have a diagnosis & a hiatus hernia is not too bad a one to have.  I've had one for over 30 years but it never affected me as badly as yours does fortunately.  I found that some things I eat really bother me & some things you think would be a problem are not.  For instance, I can eat a really strong curry with no problems as long as it is a tomato based one not cream based.  Pastry is a definite no no.  Bread is a bit of a problem but I can eat more home-made than shop bought.  I believe I have had one for 50 years when a doctor told me I was starting with a stomach ulcer - luckily it stopped & I had no more trouble for years.  But I do believe that they are made a lot worse by stress.

I am fortunate enough to have managed mine for the last 25 years by diet alone except for the odd week here & there.  I have found a low fat diet works for me.  So if I am buying something I look at the saturated fat level.  Obviously this may well not work for you, but if you can find out what sort of thing makes it worse then you are winning.  Like me you could find out that it is something totally unexpected.  But the more stress you can avoid the better.

    I’m pleased they
didn’t find anything sinister and at least they have found the hernia which might be the culprit for some of the symptoms. I hope you can find a way of managing it as BM has.

Thanks for the advice BM that's quite reassuring. At the moment anything I eat causes me a problem so I'm not sure where to start to be honest. I do know I need to lose weight as that can make it worse, I've got a stone and a half to lose so need to work on that. Stress is the problem because my job can be very stressful, it's stress that makes my pain levels worse so I don't manage it very well. It's weird though because I don't feel like I'm stressed but I think that's because it's a slow drip feed of stressful events or information which I then bury somewhere deep in my brain instead of dealing with it. I'm now wondering if my symptoms have got more noticeable because of the current situation and the last year and a half and that maybe they might calm down when we get back to normal

Thanks Milann,I'm hoping it's manageable too, first thing is to lose some weight and see if that helps, no one has suggested this to me but I know I'm am a stone and a half over my usual weight so figure it can hurt 😊

Had a bad nights sleep last night due to being really hot and pain in my chest 😟 I got the clinic letter that the consultant I spoke to last week sent to my GP and he is recommending they send me to ENT if the findings were normal yesterday, I'm not sure if the hernia will make a difference to that decision  or not. I'm hoping they don't need to send me now.

Im not feeling too good today so I'm not sure what I'm going to be doing,I've just taken B out for a walk and got caught out with the weather,I wore my coat but when I got to the top of my road I realised it's much warmer than yesterday so I didn't need it.

Ive got some washing on which should be finished in a minute, so I can peg that out. It's also payday today so I need to check my bank at some point to see how much I have been paid this month

It's good to hear they've found the hernia (not nice for you but at least it helps to know where you stand) and I'm glad it's nothing more ominous.

I get acid reflux (I have omeprazole for when it's troublesome) but found losing weight really helped, possibly because of restricting how much I ate so I don't think that bit would apply to you, but it's so nice to be able to bend without gasping for air! So I'll cheer on your weight loss and who knows, it may be just what you need. You don't need me to say there will be other benefits (health and self-esteem-wise) but it may help to know I didn't get down to an 'ideal' weight but have still benefitted. The 'all or nothing' feeling about weight loss can defeat us before we start, but even if you lose 2lbs and no more, you will still be in a better place, won't you? And I think it won't stop at 2lbs. :)

    Anyway, cheering you on. :)

Thanks Cherry ,I have had acid reflux for years which is now controlled by Omeprazole but I have to take it everyday, sometimes I get it despite the Omeprazole ,I even got it when I was at my goal weight of 9 stone, I'm hoping losing weight will help with the hernia but I'm not holding out any hope for it helping with reflux😟
My problem is keeping the weight off once I've lost it, I've lost and gained the same 23ish lbs over the years so many times I've lost count, I only know it gets harder each time.
When I used to be able to exercise properly I was ok but now I'm limited to what I can do it's more difficult, I will start walking from work again this week and see if that helps.

Pegged  out my washing and it's gone ominously grey out there 😳I also swept up the patio which had lots of moss thrown onto it from the gutter by the birds. I hope it's not going to rain 🤞🤞
Im meeting DD1 tomorrow with the DGC and we were going to a local petting farm but rain has been forecast for tomorrow now so we are going to  Rosemoore  gardens instead, there are a few play areas for the children and they love it there plus it's more sheltered, I think the aim is to go there for the morning so we can be back by the little ones nap time at lunch,if it's not raining we could sit in the garden but if it does decide to rain I will come home instead

I know it’s different but I had a hernia through my scar tissue about 5 years ago - it was just below my ribs and I had to eat little and often rather than a massive meal.....i also kept it low fat as I had ‘sludge’ sounds lovely 😂😂😂 in my gallstones. It did improve things a lot. I think that’s why I constantly feel the need to graze now though. Like you I need to lose about 1 1/2 stone. The sludge had gone by the next time I had a scan.....I know I really should get back to a lower fat diet than I eat now......it could so easily return 😳

Sludge sounds 🤢🤢Milann 😀😀 Im going to try smaller meals with small snacks instead of the normal size meals I eat now with snacks all the time. I eat when I'm bored, upset, stressed, angry happy and hungry so I need to change my habits pronto 😊
