Had a good day at work as far as the job goes but I am really angry on behalf of myself and my colleagues, today we have been informed we have to wear a surgical face mask for the whole of our shift if we are working in a clinical area, this would be ok but we have been told we have to wear them for a four hour session and we are not allowed to take them off at all during the four hours even for eating and drinking, we have been told to make sure we have enough to eat and drink at the beginning of our shift until we get a break after four hours, this is so that we use our PPE responsibly and waste it
Our ward is really warm on a cool day but as the weather warms up it regularly gets up to 24 degrees, there is no way we can work for four hours without having access to a cold drink,I normally have a cold drink at least every hour during a typical shift
That's ridiculous OBL! I know how dehydrated I feel after a one and a half hour shift at lunchtime, so four hours is insane 😱. That's completely impractical I think, especially when hospitals are so hot. Your managers are really losing the plot 😡.
This is a  directive from the man in charge of nursing, my managers are a bit spineless so haven't challenged it, I'm hoping someone in charge will stand up and say it isn't possible 😟

I hope so too. Those directors sit there and make decisions without actually understanding the consequences of them sometimes. Unless people speak up, then everyone will assume it is ok.

It's a lovely day here,I've taken B out and cleaned the 🐓🐓out as well as getting one load of washing done and pegged out, I've got another load  on the go in the machine and now I'm just having a coffee
Sadly  the painting of the patio table is going to have to wait because I have done something to one of the muscles around my left shoulder blade 😟 I am going to go into the loft though so I can get the deck chairs down,Then i can at least sit on the patio and read, sew or knit, my wool hasn't arrived yet so I can't start on my sock project yet, I'm going to do some sewing in a bit instead in an attempt to get that finished before the wool turns up 😊

That is a tall order re working in a hot environment & not being allowed to have a drink of water for 4 hours, OBL. I'm presuming that the management rationale is that it will economise on number of masks used? Am I right in assuming that once they're removed for a drink after 4 hours, they'd be thrown away?
The muscle group I badly pulled the other week was around the top of my shoulder blade right up to my neck  - I did it getting into all sorts of contortions while I was scrubbing the greenhouse - it hurt for a whole week. It did get a little better each day but it can be surprising how much pulled muscles can hurt......I think we're at a funny age!
    Take care,

They should only be worn for about half an hour to 40 minutes, this is normally how long you would wear one while doing something with a patient, for infection control purposes you would then throw that mask away and use a fresh one the next time you go into that patient, you would also wear a new one if going to see another patient to avoid the spread of infection, we are being told to wear them for the four hours and not change them no matter how many patients we see, we have been told to wear them constantly while out in the clinical area because the virus has spread so well in the community we are highly likely to come into contact with it at some point, the message we got yesterday via a video was that we have to wear them for four hours to make sure we are using our stocks of PPE in a responsible manner........ ie not wasting it because there isn't enough........
We have also been told that we must make sure we don't touch our faces, after I put my mask on yesterday I kept touching my face because I was hot and itchy 😟

The muscle I hurt was the one that goes down from the shoulder blade and around your side by your ribs at the back,I think it was due to some work I did yesterday that was quite repetitive, it felt more like it had gone into a spasm rather then being pulled,I took some brufen  and it has gone now, I even managed to spend an hour in the garden this evening 😊

I do hope they change their minds about you not being able to drink water for four hours, I feel as though that must be against your human rights when you're working in a hot environment 😡.

I hope your pulled muscle gets better soon. Mine felt better yesterday, so it took about five days to heal but it got a little better each day. The first day my side was painful and it seem to cause pain down my leg too when I moved it, but by the second day it was only my side that hurt.
