What an interesting superstition, OBL. I have never heard of it. I live in the Midlands, though grew up in a different region & although I know various old superstitions from grandparents & older relatives, that is the first time I've ever heard anything about not doing laundry on New Year's Day.
I hope you don't also know one about not making bread on Jan 2nd, or I shall be in trouble, as it's the first job on my list today.

As far as I'm aware there isn't one involving bread today Foxgloves 😂

My Nan used to go mad if we did the washing on New Year’s Day. The dog was sick on her bed so I did wash it
Yay,someone else knows what I'm talking about,it's seems quite a common idea down here in the Southwest too 😊

Today has been busy so far, we got up earlyish to go into town because DD2 needed trousers and a couple of tops to wear on her placement which starts on Monday,it's her last one and she will qualify this year 🙀where did that time go

I had lunch when we got in,I've graduated to Ritz crackers with garlic cheese roule today so I think my stomach is starting to settle down, I've also managed a few chocolates with my cup of tea, still can't drink coffee though

My plans for today we're to have a clean and tidy but it doesn't actually need doing,so I'm going to wait until the weekend,I am going to do some washing in a minute and possibly the ironing depending on if I can muster up the energy,I'm also planning on doing some more sewing in a bit

I am feeling more energetic today so I think my new vitamins might be working, the cold has definitely gone now so that's good news

Tomorrow I'm back at work again but it's a 9 to 5 shift tomorrow so not too bad,I am in outpatients all day running clinics so hopefully it won't be too crazy

Glad you are feeling a little better, OBL. I had to smile about how pleased you were with starting your new diary. I did mine yesterday. I am just the same with diaries & stationery. I felt more ready to tackle 2020 once my diary was all set up ready. I also write up a calendar - a free one, of course, which is kept pinned up above my desk. This calendar is entirely for my household budget cycles. I write on my big budget day each month, then make a note of how many grocery shopping days there are - we always grocery shop at weekends, so depending on how the dates fall, there are sometimes 5 rather than 4 shopping days to a month & flagging that up helps me to budget. I also write on the dates where the milkman's bill is paid, then I can see at a glance how much money still needs to come out for that month. It is a bit tedious writing it all up, but I don't care! After so many years of not budgeting at all & overspending our income every single month without fail, it is just nice to have discovered a method which works for us, & long may it continue!

Glad you are able to eat a little more. It won't be long before you get coffee back as well.

I take Vitamin C and really do think that it helps massively. I am thinking of taking more though and getting a range in to try and help with all the bugs going round.

Hope work is ok for you tomorrow. x

My mum buys me a calendar every Christmas but I am guilty of not really using it efficiently,I write my shifts on there and that's about it,I think I need to investigate using it for budgeting too

Thanks Hairy, DD2 is planning on staying here for at least a year when she graduates, but that depends on if she can get a job nearby, hopefully if she can get one in the hospital here she will be able to stay here because she wants to save up as much as she can for a deposit for her own house, she has already managed to save 3 thousand while being at uni,she is very very frugal and doesn't waste money on anything unless she really needs it, if she does stay here and is lucky enough to get a job she is also going to pay me rent at the going rate I would get if I rented out her room, so that would benefit me a lot, when she does move out I am thinking of renting her room out for some extra income

Thanks Nicnak, I'm so relieved I am starting to feel a bit more normal, the Sambucol liquid I've bought is really good but a bit pricey,it's worth it though if it does the job

  • That sounds brilliant. I hope DD2 gets a job at your local hospital then.
