My journey to a debt free life

  • Sadly all my plans were put on hold yesterday because I woke up with a nasty stomach bug,I won't go into details but it was horrid,I also had a terrible headache and all my joints were hurting so much I didn't know what to do with myself,I spent all of Thursday in bed either sleeping or watching the clouds scudding across my window,I literally couldn't do anything

We didn't get to go to the garden centre either so I've given up with that now, there was also some weird activity in the loft,I was woken up by what sounded like something flying into the guttering outside my window, it then went all quiet until it got dark when scrabbling sounds started coming from the ceiling in the corner of my room, I heard it on and off throughout the night but couldn't go up there because I was too ill,DD 2 said she heard it in the corner of her room as well,I went up there today and didn't find any critters but some of the gravelly roof insulation had been scratched up in the corner where she said she had heard the noise coming from, I also saw dents in the insulation that looked about the size of a cat paw print, our cat has been up there so they might have been his,I've had to leave it for now because I could see anything,I'm wondering if it was a squirrel, we have trees close enough to our roof for one to get in,I will have to wait and see

We didn't go anywhere today because I didn't feel to great so I did a bit of tidying and because the rain had stopped I finally managed to clean the chicken run

I also did a quick check of my emails today and I'm so glad I did because there was one from SC to say my yearly review was overdue,I did get an email a month ago but completely forgot about it, this second message warned me that if I didn't do my review as soon as possible my plan would be stopped:eek:

I tried to do it online but halfway through it said my budget hadn't been agreed and I would have to phone them, this presented me with a problem because DD2 was at home and seeing as she doesn't know about my DMP I was panicking about trying to phone them,I also don't like talking to people on the phone so that was another panic inducing moment, I got a lucky break ( or not so lucky but I will get to that in a minute) when DD2 decided to take her hamster to the vet because the skin problem he has has got drastically worse despite treatment
So as soon as she was out the door I phoned them up and sorted it out, apparently the reason my budget wasn't agreed was because at the rate I'm paying it's going to take longer than 10 years to pay it off ,I went through all the numbers and the advisor said I would have to increase my payment to £86 instead of £79, I agreed to this because I can afford that and it knocks 2 years off my plan, it's still going to take me 14 year but it is what it is 🤷!♀️So at least that's done for another year and I think next time I will justdo it over the phone because it's easier than online

Going beck to DD2 s hamster, she took him to the vet about a month ago because he had something weird in his ear,it was like big scab, the vet said it was ear mites and gave her some treatment that we have to put on his skin every two weeks for six weeks, anyway she wasn't happy with the way he was looking because his fur has fallen out so she decided to take him back today and it turns out he has lymphoma :( apparently hamsters can get this and it affects their skin, the vet also removed the thing that was in his ear, she told DD2 that the cancer isn't curable but that she didn't think he needed to be put to sleep today because he is still very active and doing normal hammy things, DD2 has to take him back in a week to see how he is and they will decide then if he should carry on, in the meantime we have to bathe his skin with salty water every day to get the flakes of skin off,he is such a sweet little hammy and only about the size of a cotton wool ball, the vet and nurses all loved him because he was so well behaved while they were sorting his ear out and didn't try to bite anyone:)

Tomorrow we have to go into town to buy the fresh bits for Xmas and then we are done

  • So sorry about the Hamster. I hope he has a good while left of him being active.

It's great that you sorted out your payments. I hope that is a relief now for you and another thing less to worry about.

Stomach bugs seem to be going round at the minute. Hopefully it is all out of your system and you can get on with your week as normal. x

What sad news about the hammy. At least while he seems to be enjoying life you are able to bathe him to help his skin and keep up his quality of life.

I hope you're soon feeling better in yourself.

  • Oh no poor hamsters. We had two that didn't make a year old before succumbing to something, then I had one that was 2 1/2 and another that made it to over 3! Which is apparently ancient in hamster years.

  • Sorry about poor little Eric :( but you gave him a very happy life while you had him. Sorry also about your tummy bug. I hope you feel better today.

Did you manage to get your fresh food for Christmas today? We bought our Christmas food early this morning and there was plenty of food on the shelves and it wasn't too busy.

He's been out and about on his wheel overnight and I gave him some sunflower hearts which he has snaffled

I'm so glad I checked my emails yesterday, it would have been a disaster if they had stopped my plan

It is sad but he was originally adopted from the reject section in the petshop, he's had a brilliant life while he's been here and he still seems to be enjoying himself

Sadly I'm not feeling better,I woke up this morning with a sore throat and I'm feeling a bit rough this evening,I've got to go back to work on Monday so I hope I'm alright by then :(

My DD2 had one that was four when she was younger but that's highly unusual I think

Sorry you're not feeling very well. Make sure you rest and drink lots of water. Can you ring in sick on Monday if you're still unwell?

I'm glad you've got some of your food today and it wasn't too busy. Our Mr T wasn't too bad but we got there at 9.30am.
