  • My mortgage is also less than the debts we paid off last year. It's awful to think that we could have used that money to pay off our mortgage :(. You're the same age as me and we have nine years left on ours.

But at least we've learnt our lesson now, onwards and upwards :).

I know,I feel sick when I think I could have overpaid on my mortgage instead of running up all that debt, hindsight is a wonderful thing

  • Omg I'm just watching the news to check out the weather and they had a piece on about the weather in the USA at the moment,it's -27degrees in Chicago at the moment and people have been warned not to talk for too long or breath too deeply while they are outside:eek:
My little corner of Devon was on the news too as lots of our roads are treacherous at the moment,in other parts of the southwest there are 100 drivers stuck on Bodmin moor:eek:

I've just looked outside and it's snowing again now:(

Well here I am up and ready for work only to realise I got up too early
I thought I heard my alarm and I woke up and looked at the clock and thought it said 6.25i am supposed to get up and 6.10 so I leapt outnof bed and into the shower,I then ran round like a maniac so I would be ready on time when all of a sudden I heard my alarm clock go off,I thought that's weird I'm sure I turned it off and why is it going off now,I went to turn it off and it was saying 6.10 so I checked the time on the tv and it was indeed 6.10,it must have been 5.25 when I woke up so I got up earlier than intended
The thing is I remember the alarm going off and leaning over and turning it off but I obviously hadn't so I must have been dreaming then woke up thinking it was real then leapt out of bed:eek:
It's quite funny but I'm also sad that I missed that extra time in bed this morning:rotfl:

At least you didn't do what I once did: heard the alarm and turned it off, then dreamed you had got up! It was a bit of a rush that day.
Sorry you missed your sleep, though.

Sounds proper snowy where you are, OBL. Only a tiny shower here for us today, & none overnight. Still a really cold day, but amazed to see that the ice has melted. Yesterday, the huge hoar frost & fog we woke up to lasted all day & although the garden looked pretty, it was soooooo cold.
We don't have a radiator in our bathroom either. There was a small gas heater when we moved in. It was toasty warm but it looked like it had been around since the Spanish Armada, so when we had a new bathroom fitted a few years ago, we had it removed. We replaced it with quite a good sized towel radiator, which we have on most of the time during winter, but it isn't nearly as warm. We have very little downstairs heating. We also removed a terrible old storage heater in the kitchen when we arrived. It only heated up at one end, smelled like it was about to combust & to add to that, a previous occupant had decided what it needed was about 6 layers of thick cream gloss paint! Of course the heat had made this peel off in patches & the whole thing was so yukky, we decided we'd rather be cold! We've tried various small wall heaters in the same place since then, but nothing works. We are hoping to have a major heating upgrade later this year, but we're not in a financial position to plan it in any detail just yet.
So I always wear plenty of layers in the coldest months & although I have coloured my roots, straightened my hair & done my make-up today, I do still look like a small wool yeti.

It is still snowing here, and my dog says that if I want to go out that is fine, but don't expect HIM to accompany me! :rotfl:

It's not as bad here in Devon as it was in Cornwall we probably had a few inches last night but it's now mostly gone on the pavements so not too bad at all,I think it was so slippery because it rained all afternoon prior to snowing so it was slippery underneath

I'm glad you posted about your towel radiator not being as warm in your bathroom because I haven't been able to make my mind up whether to get one of those or just a small radiator,I've decided if I do it it will be the small radiator I'm going to go for,it's probably the cheapest option as I know I can get a small one to go in there for round about £20 and then it's just the cost of fitting it
I don't have any heating in my kitchen either but there is a radiator on the wall just outside and my kitchen warms up really quickly if I'm cooking in there so I don't think I need one

:rotfl::rotfl: laughing at the picture of you looking like a small wool yeti,I have a lovely thick chunky cardigan that I only wear in the house so I wear that if I'm feeling chilly,I do have my heating on a lot because the colder temperatures increase my pain and if I get cold I find it really hard to warm up again,I don't normally have it on overnight while I'm m in bed though becasue then I get too hot 🙄

I've had a busy day today but have made sure I've had lots of breaks because I was feeling a bit achey earlier so I'm mindful of overdoing it today
I took the dog out and managed to get round the route without falling over, most of the snow has gone from the paths so it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be
Came home and had a coffee to warm up then went and sorted the chickens out,I was worried their water would freeze but it hadn't so that was good, there were two eggs in the coop so that was a lucky bonus,I only had the two from the other day so now I have four so might be able to do a bit of baking on Sunday, I've cleaned them out and they are out in the garden having a dig around, there is a little robin on the fence waiting for his chance to go in the run and steal some food,he is quite cute and very round so I think he manages to get in there quite a lot

The next job was bathing the dog so I've got that done and she now smells of baby shampoo,I buynthe no more tears shampoo for her then it won't sting if it goes in her eyes, she hates having a bath though so it's always a bit traumatic for her,I was going to book her in at the groomers but told myself to stop being lazy and do myself,I saved £20 by doing it myself so a win win situation
This then led to cleaning the bathroom and hooveri g the house,so that all done as well,I can sit down and chill out for a bit now
While I was hooveringI found some more objects to declutter,I have my tv on an oak cabinet and I have ornaments on there too,so every time I dust I have to move it all so today some of it went in the pile for the charity shop, that table will be so much easier to clean now, also in front of this on each corner I had a wooden duck and a small wooden dog plus a witch doorstop, the duck falls over all the time and really gets on my nerves plus it all needs moving when I hoover so that has all gone on the pile for the charity shop too
I have decided that everything that's put aside to go will be put on the dining table, this is because I pass the table every time I go in or out of the house so it will annoy me if it's there for too long, gone are the days when things to be got rid of went in the spare room and then stayed there for months gathering dust
I love my new decluttered tv table, just looking at it makes me feel relaxed
