Totally agree; I can't believe that people are being encouraged to go back to offices primarily to buy sandwiches it seems! We need to rethink the economy and jobs.10 -

Ooh ice cream vans! They don’t seem to be a thing in the far north. When I first moved here and heard a tune playing outside I was really disappointed to find it was a fish van...a fish van! 🙄😪Not all who wander are lost - J.R.R.Tolkien

The goverment must think that millions of commuters fouling the atmosphere is preferable to sandwich shops/cafes closing down. Not to mention the cost of heating/lighting enormous office blocks. When are they going to start to think outside the box? It's enough to make you weep.

Hi SA - caught up with you at long last - really pleased to read that DGD is A-ok!😀. Not so pleased that Mr SA has been up to his old tricks and trying to stop you going out!😡. But you seem to be ignoring him just fine....😀
Re the back to the office debate - I'll be quite pleased never ever to go back! My own boss and a couple of his colleagues I think would like to go back for a few days a week but this is mainly for the social aspect. I did say to him, you do know that it's never going to be the same? - the crowded City of London I know so well will I think be a thing of the past with half empty offices and new firms setting up smaller spaces outside the capital - which is a good thing as it will give other regions a chance I think in time the City could be a good residential area - there's enough office space to convert into flats - hopefully quite a few affordable homes for key workers in London - plus room for shops/ restaurants to support the residents. I agree with you on London.
A family member works at London Bridge if not working from home & is of the same opinion as you.

I would be interested to experience what London smells like at the moment, every time I go the smell of petrol fumes is overwhelming. I still love to go though, it’s the buzz. I’d go back to my office a couple of days a week but that’s all.One of my work friends has invited me to her house for a socially distanced Prosecco and nibbles day and a catch up. I’d love to go but she lives in another county and it would involve public transport. Plus I’ll need to come up with a good story Mr SA wise. I can feel a day in the office to repair my surface pro day coming on 🤣I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)9

I actually went back into the City SA the other day to have my Covid hair remedied with my hairdresser of years standing. I arrived on a weekday lunchtime when normally it would be buzzing. It was just like a Saturday in the City - dead as a Dodo. Just a few people wandering about. Long row of black cabs outside the station - goodness knows how they are making a living. A couple of people having drinks outside the few bars I passed. I went in Veggie Pret to buy a wrap and just one girl serving when normally there would be at least five at lunchtime. No smell SA - hardly any traffic.....
If you don't mind the public transport I'd mask up and go to your friend and have a good time. It'll do you good. There was hardly anyone on the trains when I went up to the City. 😷The surface pro excuse is wonderful.....🤣

My dd was wary of travelling from her home into London for work. However each time she has travelled she has been the only person in the carriage which is usually crowded. She got off the train a stop earlier and cycled along the canal to her office ( she has a folding bike) rather than walking through the city.Hope you get to go for a socially distanced Prosecco with your friend.
