Oh SA just read your update , take it easy with the boot and don't try to do to much , you need to heal. I understand your desire to return to work and normality.

I guess that it will be no consolation, but my neighbour (I'm guessing that she is about your age), fell and had a very complex fracture of her ankle a few weeks ago. She had surgery to fit pins, but now after the plaster is removed is also having to wear a boot, so perhaps surgery might not have given you a better result if the bone was not fully healed.
So disappointing for you, take care. The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)0 -
Really disappointed on your behalf... though glad you can now have a bath and start looking after the skin again.
I think the swelling will go down once you can move your leg (I broke my arm and it ballooned, initially to protect the break but later because I couldn't use it but it got back to normal once I was using it): hopefully you will be able to get hold of some physio help though I don't think they do as much for legs as for arms on the NHS. If you can get physio, treasure it - they are so knowledgeable and it really makes a difference to the end result.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Yes be careful SA. I was told off by the consultant for not raising my leg enough at home when I'd broken a bone in my foot and had to have a cast. I thought I'd done OK! But you need it to heal well so do as advised to the letter. Shame about unhelpful staff though. So unnecessary. Morning folks, thanks for your kind comments
Feeling a bit more upbeat this morning. I'm focusing on the advantages which are:
1. Not having to get up at the crack of dawn
2. Not having to trek out to work in the dark and cold
3. Being able to listen to the radio/watch TV while I'm working
4. Having time to do my own stuff with the extra time I've gained by not commuting
5. Work understand that I need to take regular breaks during the day, I probably wouldn't be able to do this if I was physically there
6. I'm saving money by not being able to go shopping
I'm already walking better with the boot although it's very heavy and cumbersome. I'm sure that by next Tuesday I'll have come on in leaps and bounds. Tomorrow I plan to attempt to walk to the local shops. If I have to have a rest in the new local coffee shop that's just opened up and looks rather nice now wouldn't that be a shameI get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)0 -

Plenty of rest is very important, as is keeping up your fluids.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Imagine having to pass the new coffee shop just as you needed a rest.
