Your planning for the year sounds great. I agree if funds allow there has to be some money budgetted for the fun things in life it looks as if you have a good balance.

I wish I knew how to do a spreadsheet but haven’t got a clue - I’ll stick to my haphazard book and pen method:o

Well done on the WW result - that’s good going at this time of year.
    January spends - £587.58

I love my spreadsheets Milann, I use them all day at work so know my way around them :)

Feet up now finally. Not done a lot today really, will have to do the cleaning tomorrow.

Mr SA has been commenting on my cooking. We had pizza, wedges and salad tonight and apparently I should have thinly sliced up some mushrooms to put on top. And the battered fish he had yesterday could've done with a bit longer in the oven (he only mentioned this today!).

I hope your suitably tart reply was that he is quite welcome to prepare his own meals himself. He would be able to eat nice and early in the evening as he protests that he prefers and you could go out and enjoy yourself and not rush back.

    Morning folks :)

Beanie I'd love to see what he came up with if he cooked his own meals. Unfortunately he can't. He can do toast though :)

The budgeting idea is something from a budgeting site which suggests 50/30/20 is an ideal split. Fortunately it looks like it will work for me. I tried to follow it when Mr SA was working but his income was so erratic, being self employed, that it just didn't work out. Plus he used to spend a fortune on diesel and tools, I couldn't keep up with it. Ironically in some ways we are better off now, even though we have a lot less coming in, I have more control over it. Some weeks he had no work at all or the weather would be bad and he didn't get paid, often he'd be waiting for people to pay him (sometimes they never did!) and then he'd come home with a new tool costing £200 or he'd buy 4 new tyres for the van without even thinking whether we had the money. So as you can tell this is a characteristic that has survived the brain damage he just can't do anything about it now.

Today's plans are meal plan for the week, I need to go to Aldi for a few bits, clean up and paint my nails. Providing I'm careful in Aldi I should have a small amount of money left this week to go to VSP and/or debt.

Have a good day everyone :)

Love your NY goals too SA especially the ones linked to you taking time to do things for yourself. Financial ones look good and yes saving for retirement is definitely something it is worth doing. A useful exercise I started 5 years before we planned to retire was to map out expected income and aim to get expenditure as low as possible to give us a lot of disposable income. You need it in retirement more than when you are working. Of course if the mortgage goes before retirement that helps. Happy 2019.
