That’s a very odd leave year starting date. Ours works on the financial year and I have friends who have the calendar year, but I’ve not known any work on the school year before…maybe I’ve just had a very sheltered existence 😁 I hope you survive Monday ☕️
Ours runs from 1st March to 28th February.

    No idea why!

I always wondered why any organisation linked the start of their holiday year to their financial year's start. The end of a holiday year invariably has people scrabbling to take their unused holiday days whilst their managers are scrabbling to get projects completed in time.

I was very lucky that my employer paid me my full unused Covid-year's holiday days plus the current holiday days when I retired through ill health last year. I put the request in fully expecting them to say only 7 days could be carried over.
What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?
  • I always thought the best holiday allowance started on the day of your start with the company.
Staff ( especially those who who were parents) always kept a few days back in case of emergency child care, but as a manager there was no mad rush for 20 of them to take their last few days all at the same time.

We are allowed to carry 10 days leave over although during Covid it was a lot more. I always have a good stash of flexi too to cover early finishes, appointments or emergencies.

  • We can only carry 5 days over and I agree, it’s always a scrabble at year end with people squeezing days in when it’s really busy. I always keep my 5 day carryover stashed for emergencies 😁
