My point is, would they be better off shouting that they did "Return flights to xxx for £42, typical fees included"? It strikes me that they get such a lot of stick when they don't need to.
Or do they get more custom from people who look at their flights for, say, £0.00 and still book them when it comes out at £42 than they would do if they advertised them at a typical price?
Or is it a case of all publicity's good publicity - i.e. the more people who moan, the more people talk about them?
Just wondered what other people's thoughts were. I know I'd prefer it if they advertised a typical price rather than a near impossible price.
Someting that you have to remeber - Ryanair do in fact show the total price at the flight selection screen. The rest (baggage, card fees, etc) are all optional - and this is what I can't understand. People seem to be complaining about the lack of honesty about the prices, yet they seem very clear to me.
And yes, in Ryanair's case, all publicity is good publicity. The more people speaking about the company, the more business they'll get - for every person that complains, another person will discover ridiculously cheap fares.
I think people have simply been spoilt by the availability of ridiculously cheap fares and now can't handle having to pay anything more than a couple of pounds for a flight.
No matter how many times you drum it into people that they should use Visa Electron and only take hand luggage, people still pay with expensive credit cards and take bags that they don't need. There was one example on here a while ago where someone's girlfriend HAD to have a piece of hold luggage - for a two day trip to Paris! Not Ryanair's fault, yet they still got the blame. From Poland...with love.
They are (they're) sitting on the floor.
Their books are lying on the floor.

Maybe "needing" hold luggage is the wrong word, but some people will very much want to take hold luggage. Some people don't have an Electron card.
My point is that there should be some sort of "typical" price at the start. Then some people will actually get a cheaper price than that when they get to the end of it. Then they might go around telling people how good Ryanair is! But probably not as much as those who currently say what a rip off it is. Which is why I wonder about the publicity side of things. It's certainly an interesting business model.0 -
Have booked a two day trip Manchester to Shannon for me and the kids to visit relatives for two quid return each everything included with my electron card total price £6.
Also just got day trip to Dublin for the same price. Absolutely unbelieveable value. I couldn't get the bus to work one way for £2!0 -

Why do they hide the insurance opt out in the middle of the list of countries?0 -

Ultimately though, both those charges are optional. My point is that there should be some sort of "typical" price at the start. The thing is that the price shown at the flight selection stage *is* the final price - it's paying by non-Electron and taking hold baggage that drives the price up.
The thing about many people is that they scream RIPOFF SCAM- but when they realise that Ryanair are frequently the best value, they don't hesitate to book. From Poland...with love.

Sorry Holly but this did make me laugh when I booked my last flight - assume it is because they have listed "no insurance required" in alphabetical order with the countries (as if it is a country lol)- bizarre0 -

Agree re cheap flts, was on holiday for 14 days in early July, had 32 flts booked to various destinations, Dublin being the main one - using it as a hub to other airports, all paid for by Electron and most £1 per flt.
Gripe is, my Electron card is Halifax 'Easycash' account, Halifax charge you £1.50 per booking, which I believe is because it's paid for in Euro's and the card is GBP. The CO-OP bank have just stopped issuing Electron cards (late June) on the orders of VISA (I've been told this from two different CO-OP sources). Anybody know which (if any) Electron card don't charge for booking, or do one in Euro's for UK residents to get around any bank charge?

Hey Dave O
I have an electron debit Card for my current account with Abbey National! It doesn't charge me for booking with it and ryan air don't book me either! Its fantastic and about the only reason i like having an electron card since its practically useless everywhere else :-)
