Mmmm I love liver and bacon with lots of onions and thick gravy and creamy mash real tummy warming food and cheap as chips
If I make a big casserole of it I will cut out one portion to eat then, once cold portion up the rest to freeze and top with mash so instant ready meal when I come home on a chilly evening so I only have green veg to cook, usually spring greens or cabbage I am definitely a plain cook and adore some of the old fashioned meals I grew up with. No smashed avocados for me . Why on earth do people eat those anyway I find them tasteless and akin to eating soap
:):) but each to their own I guess.

Had to do a bit of shopping today and bought some pigs liver & pork mince. Going to be making some faggots tomorrow. That should be enough for 2 meals. Another meal we've not had for quite a long time. Denise
Oooh, faggots - haven't had those in years! When you have time, would you mind posting your recipe please? I fancy some now!I am definitely a plain cook and adore some of the old fashioned meals I grew up with. No smashed avocados for me . Yep, my mum was a plain cook too so I guess I've just followed her. Whenever we have something like stew, casserole, Yorks pud etc, DH always says "proper food, lovely".Very much a meat & 2 veg man.
Never tasted an avocado so can't comment on those, but my "soap" taste is blue cheese. Love white Stilton, but not blue.
Used up the last few mushrooms from the fridge this morning with chipolata sausages and black pudding from the freezer and a cheeky piece of fried bread. Dinner tonight is cod fishcakes (from freezer), lo green beans and chunky hm chips. Afters, if wanted/needed, might be a ping mug pud - I seem to have quite a few in the cupboard, all bought rtc.
Another "pottering" day but I've been productive by emptying/cleaning/sorting/de-cluttering the under stairs cupboard - lots of cobwebs but no spiders - and 3 (yes, 3) carrier bags of tut went in the bin. I call that a win.Be kind to others and to yourself too.0 -
Yorklass - I'll post my recipe later. It's a Slimming World recipe so low fat but still tasty!

my 'posh' cheese that I get as a real treat now and then is roquefort which I love with some plain crackers and grapes, that is my treat of the week and I enjoy that as much as a bar of chocolate. I like danish blue now and then but don't buy it very often I usually end up with everyones left over cheese at Christmas as I am definitely a cheese-o-holic
I was going to have the bit of breaded chicken I got out of the freezer but DD rang and said would I like to go to dinner tonight as my son-in-law had bought a large chicken and there was lots going as one of the boys was round at his friends for dinner and the eldest one was going to a 'pub party night' So off I toddled and will have the chicken tomorrow night instead, its in the top shelf of the fridge so it will be fine. Simon,my son-in-law made a gorgeous red pepper and onion gravy and it was absolutely devine

Back now with the Faggots recipe:
500g 5% pork mince
250g lambs liver (or pigs liver)
2 medium onions
3 Ryvita
1 tsp Sage
1 tsp Thyme
S&P
2 beef stock cubes (crumbled)
1 egg
Blitz onion & Ryvita in food processor. Then add rest of ingredients and blitz again (I find pulsing is better than blitzing)
Spray frying pan and place spoonfuls of mixture and brown on both sides. This'll need doing in batches.
Place all faggots into a baking tray and cover with gravy (I make up an onion gravy but you can use gravy granules if preferred). Bake in oven at 180 degrees for 30 minutes.
These freeze well.
Enjoy with mash & vegetables.

Thanks for the recipe joedenise, I'll be trying these! :T
Thanks also to pamsdish, I'll look forward to your recipe. It will be interesting to see the difference between the two.
Cheese - I love all cheesejust not the blue ones.
At lunchtime we had the last of the tomato & red pepper soup. Dinner tonight is spag bol using a pork mince base from the freezer (part of a batch cook from the last time I made moussaka). Afters can be sweet waffles with a topping - probably the last bit of Greek yogurt or maybe chocolate ice cream.
We seem to have used up a lot of freezer and fridge bits this week and next week looks as if it will be "rinse and repeat". Ah well, that's fine as it keeps turnover going and helps to clock up the NSDs.Be kind to others and to yourself too.0 -
My DH carved 2 pumpkins which were a great hit - with the adults especially :rotfl:
He has now peeled & chopped one & I have roasted in 3 roasting tins - one with paprika, one with Thai 7 spice & one with medium curry powder. I have added some boiled potatoes to the curried pumpkin. Tomorrow I will be making soup
Tonight’s birthday dinner for my DSis is sausages, mash, fried onions, mixed veg & gravy.
DH had to bin a small bit of sm coleslaw
