Storing bread - living on my own, a loaf needs approx. 2 week life, so contrary to most advice, I successfully store Hovis Granary Wholemeal sliced in the fridge in its original air tight bag and simply squeeze out the 'free' air and wring its neck tightly. It is still in good soft moist condition more than 2 weeks later!3 -
Commenting on what to and not to keep in the fridge.1st - Bananas no. Wrong - old wives' tale.If you put non-green bananas in a fridge cooler box they last MUCH longer than if left out. Yes, the skins go black but the fruit within is perfect. I only discovered this a few weeks ago and hate to think how many bananas I've left to waste over the years.2nd - Eggs - yes. Wrong. In the UK, eggs are safe to keep out of the fridge and - as I think that chefs will tell you - they are better kept that way.3
