Something I get a craving for now and then is a banana fritter like the ones you get from a chip shop.
I don't know if they still sell them nowadays.0 -

Good evening everyone,
Chips & cheese or chips, cheese & gravy/curry sauce have been the lovely end of many a good night out for me:D.
Sounds as though your garden is coming on brilliantly Farway- I'm feeling very far behind this year but it's still too cold to make doing much worthwhile. Tom seedlings are jumping up though, it seems every time I look more have appeared:D.
There were a few showers though they were very light so it probably would have been ok to put the weedkiller down. It's cleared up now but it's too late for me start mixing up weedkiller now. The weeds aren't going anywhere so they can wait:rotfl::rotfl:.
My sister popped round for a cuppa & catch up late afternoon bringing more mail delivered to my Dad's house so more "to dos" though none are urgent. I've sorted out a grocery order to come tomorrow afternoon as I've a med review at the Drs in the morning.
Lunch was a big mug of leek & tattie soup with a slice of buttered toast to dip & an apple. There's a portion of soup left which I've frozen. Beef & veg stew from the freezer with the last of the sprouts for dinner.0 -

I've not had one for donkeys' years.
I've only seen them in Chinese takeaways. There are two varieties:
1/ coated in sugar
2/ swimming in golden syrup.
I prefer the sugar ones, but it's hit and miss which type any particular Chinese serves.
I fancy a Chinese..... fancied one for 2-3 weeks now but not got round to going out and getting one for a variety of lazy excuses.
I won't have a banana fritter though, they're not cheap, so it's easy to just think "I won't have that as I'll already be full, it's unnecessary expense and it's laden with calories... so, on balance, best left".0 -
Only two options here PN - with syrup unless you ask for it without. Some local takeaways chuck in a fritter or prawn crackers if you are buying a main + rice or noodles or chips or spend over £10 otherwise it's £2+ ish for a portion which is usually 2 or 3 fritters which is far too many for me nice as they are.0

The Chinese I use are "good and bad" at the same time...
I have sweet/sour chicken balls, but what you get is HUGE long chicken fillets, it's like 2x what you'd normally get/expect.
But, their egg fried rice and their plain noodles aren't done right. They don't brown/crisp them up... so I can't have those (I make my own instead)... AND ... they serve the rice/noodles in smaller containers (400ml instead of 500ml) so you're short-changed.
On the other hand - they do just give out a bag of prawn crackers with every order.... which works out VERY WELL if you're ordering one dish for one personI've had a bag every time; they've changed hands in the last year and I still got them... but I do kind of expect for them to stop it at some point... which will be sad as they're not a thing I would ever order.
I just got their menu out, I've written on it "June 2017", it says prawn crackers are £1.60. The egg fried rice does say "small" on the menu, but there's no "large" option; ditto for plain chow mein, small and no large mentioned.0 -
I had a homemade french bread pizza, jalapenos, mixed peppers and pineapple. I love that combination.PasturesNew wrote: »I've not had one for donkeys' years.
My husband uses that expression.:p
I used to get a banana fritter but they were actually a whole banana fried in batter. This was ages ago when I lived in Brixton as a kid! I just get a random craving now and then.:D2025 GOALS

I've never checked how much is in the "sides" from the best one locally but it's too much for me enough that would do me twice. I tend not to get rice but noodles or chips. Main portions are more than plenty too. Sadly a Chines takeaway is pretty much off limits to me these days as the dishes I like are too salt heavy.:( Prawn crackers are £1.40 for a "small" bag (which is huge tbh) or £2.40 for a "large" one which is family sized but as I said they are often added as a "freebie". The local "meal for one" is £12.50 or £13 depending on the options but includes two starters and two mains, prawn crackers , a portion of fried rice and banana or pineapple fritters. I can't see how one person could ever eat this as it more than does two folk so pretty good value if you don't mind limited choices. Oh I could fair go a Chinese takeaway now.....0

I don't do takeaways very often but our local Chinese always give prawn crackers with an order.
You're a lot further ahead in the garden than me Farway i have talked to my neighbour as to whether he will tidy my back garden for me as he does gardening work and then I'll keep it up. My japonica is taking over and has inch long thorns, I usually lose that battle. We had a mild frost last night so would still have to be careful with tender plants
I'm with Caronc on the freezer, if I can't get out I can live well off my stores for quite a while :rotfl: I was good today and walked away from a YS large chicken and 1.5kg beef joint no room in freezer and definitely would need help to eat them and I only went in for milk
Lunch was the last of my chicken noodle soup, it was quite a large portion but I'm didn't want to leave a quarter portion
Dinner was a tofu and vegetable stir fry I kept it simple with just ginger, chilli, garlic and a sprinkle of soy sauce, it was only when I was eating it I remembered I had boiled water but not added the noodles, there was a lot of veg so it didn't really matter. I will need to think what to do for lunch tomorrow I think the only soups in the freezer are lentil or split pea and I don't fancy either.Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage - Anais Nin0 -

I think it's a "marketing con" - to get single people to order more food.... a bit like when some people see "meal deal" in a supermarket and end up spending £3 when they only went in for a £1 sandwich
Also, pizzas - people these days seem to order one pizza for each person, as "the norm", because that's how they're presented to them... that one pizza each is "a portion".
If I get the local Chinese s/s chicken, it's £4.80 and there's enough, for me, for 3 meals' worth. But the rice/noodles are only really one portion. S/S sauce is never enough in quantity... they should all double that up!0
