I had a lovely day out in the City yesterday and was treated to a good old fashioned high tea. I couldn’t resist the Chicken maryland that was on the menu and there was a lovely selection of scones and cakes to choose from too.

Butter bean and barley soup for lunch today. I was a bit generous with the barley and the veg so it ended up more like a hearty stew; although I decided not to water it down and the even better news is there’s two portions left for the freezer  :D

I had a quick walk around town this morning and picked up some fish and eggs on my way home. Tonight I’m making smoked haddock fishcakes and I’ll have them with some green beans which are jazzed up with butter, lemon & parmesan.

  • So much rain…it has been at it all day 😕🌧…and it’s cold too 🥶

Out doing a bit of volunteering this morning. Was provided with a sandwich for lunch and a bit of cake that I brought home and had with a cuppa this afternoon. Which happened after I got in from a stock up Lidl shop.

Easy tea tonight - dug a chicken kiev and some part boiled new potatoes out of the freezer, hasselbacked the spuds and cooked some peas and the end of the sugar snap peas. Had with a 🍷 while watching Strictly 💃🏽

It's rained on and off today which was a shame for next door who were having a BBQ for their daughter's 10th birthday, I had been pre warned that there were going to be 40 people (mainly adults thank goodness!) and by the amount of cars outside I think there were. It wasn't too noisy and it's been quiet since 8ish I think the weather helped.

Quick trip to the local small hospital this morning for a mammogram, I was early and was seen straight away, quickest one yet 🙂 the little nurse/ scan operator certainly knew what she was doing

My sister and a mutual friend came around this morning and we went out for lunch at the strawberry farm cafe 😋 not in my car as I didn't want to risk losing my car space.

I made some potato croquettes with LO cheesy mash and added some ham hock and spring onions before coating in panko and AF 😋 and topped with a poached egg, must remember to do again it made a quick easy dinner

Ocardo shop delivered about 7.30pm, all present and correct and the fridge cleared of LOs

Sunny start this morning, and supposed to be similar all next week.

Surprisingly all the OOD freezer stuff I used up yesterday was in good shape & texture, all tasted just fine despite obvious freezer burn in parts.

Today is more use up & LOs

Lunch is brunch, fried bread, LO sausages & fried eggs, with accompanying brown sauce cholesterol antidote  :)
Dinner, LO turkey breast, LO cooked new spuds + salad bits

    Good morning everyone,
Apart from a couple of brief, light showers the forecasted rain never arrived yesterday. The next few days look decent if chilly and it's supposed to drop to just above freezing tonight so I suspect the heating may well go on for a bit tomorrow morning.
Ari is coming at lunch time for an overnight stay but him and Hector will most likely just chill between the deck and the sofa,
Lunch is tbc and tonight it's pork steaks with veg and new potatoes.

A chilly start here and quite breezy although the sun is shining and warming things up slowly. I’m not quite ready to put the heating on yet, but I have got a portable heater out of storage and dusted off just in case.

Fried egg softie for lunch with brown sauce here too  B)

I have chicken thighs in the SC for an easy “roast” dinner tonight. Which I’ll have with mashed potatoes, skirlie, green beans & leeks.

  • Beautiful autumn day here, sunny but cool, heating been on a bit this evening.

Bit of sink shining and floor sweeping this morning. Also stewed some gifted cooking apples and roasted sweet potatoes for lunches this week.

Lunch after a swim was gigantes plaki sprinkled with feta served with toasted pitta. Smoked haddock gratin with new potatoes and tenderstem broccoli tonight.

Farway has shared his nice weather across the border 🙂 and having worn a cardi the last few days I didn't need it today just a long sleeve tee shirt.

N2BT what is a softie? Being a southerner I had to look up skirlie but couldn't find softie 🙂

I hate to mention the C word in September but my sister and I booked our members free tickets for the Leonardslee Lights in December we really enjoyed them last year and we only get charged a 1.25 booking fee, I haven't used my membership as much as usual this year due to the hip but with this free ticket I have got my money back on my membership and I hope to go a few times to see the autumn colours now in walking better.

I cooked a part baked ciabatta from the freezer for lunch and had with carrot and hummus.

i tried a salt and pepper pork recipe for dinner with rice and stirfry veg.  I probably won't make again or it needs tweaking if I do 🤷‍♀️ The marinade and cornflour made the pork tenderloin very tender but there was too much garlic (I may put off eating LOs for a couple of days and buy mints) and it was too salty
