  • Hope you feel better soon Caronc, I’ve heard from others “the lurgy” does seem to take a lot out of folk and tends to hang around a bit.

Brambling - The one thing I would say to you when you do retire don’t ever feel like you need to justify your time or always be seen to be doing something. You’ve earned this time so enjoy it.

There must have been quite a high tide last night as the shingle has been moved further up the beach again, but it’s another beautiful sunny calm day.

Lunch is sausage roll and baked beans and I’ll do scampi, sweet potato wedges and ss peas for tea tonight.

Out fairly early, planting a cherry at the volunteer place, just for the blossom really, although it will fruit the birds will have those before our eyes have opened.
It's raining now, just steady drizzle stuff, but at least it's good for the new tree.

Back for lunchtime cheese omelette, and get a quick loaf on in the Panny BM.
Now my day is muddled up, I'll probably just have a sandwich with the fresh loaf for dinner

Thanks N2BT I needed that, the first thing people say to me seems to be 'but what are you going to do? I told friends on Thursday 'not work' the longest period of time I haven't worked since leaving Uni was 4 weeks after a operation and 4weeks between this job and the last, I didn't know I was expected to have a itinerary for the next 20 years 🙄

I hope the chicken soup worked Caronc and you are feeling better 🙂

    how was Peter Kay Wednesday?

another wet day, I went as far as T Exp for milk and berries.  A large pot of vegetable soup made for lunches this afternoon

LO hummus, veggies and toasted pita for lunch.  LO beef and veg for dinner with some fresh gravy

That was like me, left college in June ‘78, got a job doing cover for holidays/long term sick until Christmas. Claimed unemployment benefit for 2 wks then stepped into a permanent FT job and worked continuously for the next 35 years, different jobs and places but no breaks - maybe I was one of the lucky ones.

Not sure what I fancy for lunch today I’ll decide later.

Tonight it’s a Delia recipe - belly pork strips in barbecue sauce, I cooked them last week when I had the oven on to roast vegetables, so an easy tea, I’ll just “ping” them and serve with rice and some green veg.

Blue sky trying hard, dry & windy, just looking outside I bet it's a cold, cut you in half, wind.

Much the same here, but started 1959 and worked at varying jobs & places without break until voluntary redundancy. Sad in a way because it was the norm for my generation, unlike today's job market where youngsters have to really try hard to get started.
I never looked back Brambling, you just enjoy it and spend as long as you like doing what you like. I spent a few years taking coach holidays in UK to places I'd never been, chose coach to avoid any hassle or frustration with driving, plus, for instance, no guilt pub lunches following Morse around Oxford

Lunch today, the very last of the roast pork LO, in a sarnie.
That on offer joint certainly turned out to be a bargain because it's also LO LOs pork stroganoff thing for dinner

    Good morning everyone,
I did take a career break for a few years when the boys were small but apart from that worked from I was 18 until I had to retire. I started in the civil service on a 4 week contract which was made permanent before it ended. Stayed in the civil service all my working life though in various roles and locations.
    Cold and frosty here.
My lurgy has definitely waned but it's wiped me out energy wise. That said had a lovely day with the kids yesterday. The soup and hot filled rolls went down a treat and there's enough soup LO for lunch today.
Trying this for dinner tonight https://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/prop ... with_36013 using tinned beans, We'll have it with toast and a poached egg. I'll start a white bean & chicken chilli for tomorrow too but apart from that and some routine domestics I'm for a lazy day. I'm hoping my batteries recharge soon.
  • Peter Kay was really good. The only thing is he was using references that you would have to be of a certain age to understand. He was talking about UK adverts and I didn't even remember one of them and I'm going to be 48 next week. I googled it afterwards and it was from 1980. There were mostly people my age there or a lot older, but there were some younger people there and I would have thought a lot of it would go over their heads!

We went to a vegan restaurant in Borough first which was very nice and it had a view of Southwark Cathedral.

I just had a smoothie and toast. I have jacket potatoes in the oven for lunch. It is very windy here today. I keep hearing the wind howling through the bathroom window.

  • Back to CFO after a lovely weekend away. Off work today so have had a nice day of pottering at home.

Smoked salmon and scrambled eggs on toasted bagel for lunch. Chorizo and broccoli pasta tonight.

Work tomorrow but from home so easing myself in 😉

It was very windy overnight and this morning, followed by drizzle  :/ definitely colder tonight

Busy enough at work to make the day go quickly I was pleasantly surprised how light when I finish at 5.30pm.

vegetable soup for lunch, I had some 'ok' cheap sausages in the freezer so I removed the skins and added chilli flakes, black pepper and garlic and made little sausage balls which I cooked and added to the soup.  LO beef and veg in a stirfry with soba noodles

Frosty start this morning, now it's just bright but dull, sort of indifferent but at least it's dry for once. If it brightedsn up I may have a short spell mooch in the garden.
Asda list finalised & due tomorrow, with so far nothing OOS etc

Delivery will be welcome, my fridge is nearly empty, and I've had to open the “emergency” UHT milk, it was last week's custard that used it up. Actually while I prefer fresh I find UHT is passable.

Lunch, egg & bacon, very much use up day
Dinner, more eggs, bacon & HM AF chips
