    Good morning everyone,
We are down to three for dinner tonight as my nephew is having to cover a shift at work due to illness. The horrible, non-covid, lurgy he had just before Christmas is working it's way round the whole staff team.
Cold and bright here, we have Ari as my sister is working so DS2 plans to give a good run on the beach this afternoon.
Cooking and bit of cleaning on the cards for me today.
Bacon butty for brunch. Roast beef, HM YPs, gravy, root veg mash, roasties and green veg for dinner.
  • I just went through my tinned food cupboard. Some things have to be used up this year now it is 2024. I put them at the front of the cupboard.

I am going to have a tin of soup with the Coop YS sourdough for lunch and then make a batch load of pasta with a jarred sauce I forgot I bought. I'm using up the end of the broccoli and the last Xmas carrot. I might put peas in it too.

  • It was a lovely sunny but chilly morning with the odd snow flurry, nothing lying here yet but there is a slight skiff of snow a few miles up the coast. A friend took me for my shopping to the large SM because my car is still injured.

I copied Wednesday’s breakfast idea of peanut butter on toast, really enjoyed it as I haven't bought PB for a very long time.

Yesterday was a use up of picky bits for lunch and leftover chicken stir-fry last night.

I've just had a cold meat and tomato sandwich and found a portion of lamb casserole in the freezer which I’ll have with some new potatoes and SS peas.

Sky is grey now and looks full of snow so a cosy afternoon in front of the telly for me.

  • Haven’t left the house today but it looked cold from inside. It’s to be very cold overnight and tomorrow 🥶

Slightly more productive today although I did watch a long tennis match this morning (Novak’s opponent put up a great fight).Bed has been changed and bedroom dusted and hoovered, load of washing done, soup made, voluntary meeting minutes typed up.

Scrambled eggs and mushrooms with toasted potato cakes out of the freezer (they were a post Christmas RTC bargain) for lunch. Roast chicken breast joint with feta & fennel crushed new potatoes and broccoli & green beans tonight 😋

Oh yes, lovely. I like PB on toast with sliced banana on top too.

  • I bought a jarred sauce from Sacla that I found in the cupboard earlier, one was a vegan pesto that I have tried before (totally yummy) and one was a vegan cheese sauce that I hadn't. The vegan cheese sauce was horrible, but I had already made the pasta and veg and poured it all on. Grr. I must have bought both on offer as I don't normally buy pasta sauce. I am going to have to put something with the rest of the gross leftover pasta to disguise it.

That's a shame about the jarred sauce Wednesday they can be hit and miss unfortunately

looks like you could have lots of LOs Caronc with your cancellations

Quiet day at home for me other than trying to persuade an elderly friend who called to say she had been knocked over and bitten by a large dog that she may need me to take her to A&E in the next town. She was determined not to go but did promise to go to our minor injury unit tomorrow if it was still swollen. She was chatting to its owner at the post box and reached up to post her letter and it went for her biting her arm and making her lose her balance.  She only realised it had gone through her coat and jumper and drawn blood when she got home. I'll call her in the morning to checkup on her and if need me take time from work to drop her off and return later. I think she was choosing to ignore my comments on how dirty teeth are whether dog, cat or human and she may need antibiotics.

Lunch was a beef and horseradish roll, using a part bake roll.  Dinner was also beef with mash potato and vegetables and the last of a jar of red cabbage

  • Yes, I think I should make pasta sauce from scratch from now on.

I have had toast with Flora and marmalade this morning.

  • Good Morning, very chilly here, temp is -2c but with wind-chill feels like -7c.

Quite a bit of snow fell overnight looks to be about 3inches here, even worse elsewhere, but its drifting in the wind and causing chaos; jackknifed lorries on a couple of the main routes, horrendous tailbacks and school closures all over so the kids will love it. More heavy showers due throughout the day, however between the showers it’s a beautiful sunny morning. Think it could be heading in your direction overnight Caronc, yellow snow warning - DON’T EAT IT - you have been warned  :D

PB on toast for breakfast, I’ve never tried it with banana, just don’t fancy that I’m afraid. I have some pulses soaking so that I can make a chana dal later and I’ll do a potato & leek gratin to go with a bacon steak for tea.

Blue sky & sunshine, but very cold. My heating came on early due to low indoor temp. I have it set like that for my safety, just in case I'm on the bathroom floor or similar predicament.
DGD reports heavy snow up there, near Aberdeen.

I'm still on use up meals, no PB here, but HMK does make nice organic strawberry jam :) , went well on my toast for breakfast. It was on offer at W8rose during my Christmas buy ins.
I can't quite image HMK & Camilla stirring a vat full in Highgrove kitchen, but it is enjoyable jam nonetheless.

Lunch, last of the homemade smoked salmon pate, with toast & salady bits
Dinner, yet more frozen AF chips, with last of the bacon rashers & use up fried LO very pink Essential Luncheon meat & a couple of fried eggs. With ketchup to neutralise the calories. :D
