    Good morning everyone,
Gorgeous cat photo - he looks so comfy.  :)
We had a couple of brief snow flurries yesterday evening but not enough to even give a sprinkle on the ground. Today is another bright and cold one. it's still only -2C which a much lower "feels like".
This evening DS2 is off to Glasgow to help DS1 and DIL2B mask off their rather long hall which has lots of doors so a rather finnicky job ready for them to paint it tomorrow. DS2 will bring Frank back here with him as boisterous pups and wet paint are not a good combination. They'll collect him on Saturday before we all go to my sister's to celebrate her birthday.
We thoroughly enjoyed the white bean and chicken chilli, just as well as despite halving the main ingredients there's lots left. Definitely a keeper. We'll have some for lunch and freeze the rest. CFO tonight, I'll see what I fancy later.
  • Another beautiful sunny day here, there was more snow overnight and no sign of thawing. I do feel sorry for those that are out clearing and scraping their cars before heading off to work, thank goodness I don’t have to do that any more. It’s been a long time since we’ve had such a prolonged spell of weather like this.

I just had cheese & biscuits for breakfast this morning, lunch was curried parsnip & apple soup with a slice of toast. For tonight I’ve got some beef stew out of the freezer which I’ll have with some new potatoes and the last of the ss peas & steamed leeks.

  • That soup sounds nice.

I had crackers with celery and carrots sticks and houmous and guac for lunch. Quite healthy, but then I had a chocolate bar.

  • Another chilly one here, it was -5 when I left for work. Oddly, not much frost to scrape from the windscreen 🤔

Busy office day but nicely productive. Celery and Stilton soup (from the freezer) and some nice brown bread for lunch. LO pea and porcini risotto (from the freezer) tonight with some mushrooms and green veg.

Left the heating on low again today but struggling to feel warm this evening.

Yay tomorrow is Friday I've been training someone via Skype this week and it has been exhausting  :( I've been passed the training from the boss as she has fried his brain 🤯 unfortunately remote working does make it difficult and I don't envy her

I found a small piece of tuna in the freezer so coated with sesame seeds and seared then made a egg, salad and tuna wrap with sriracha mayo 😋

freeze rummage also produced a chicken leg, dinner was chicken, LO coleslaw and wedges

  • I had a "chicken" joint that I didn't cook for some reason over xmas so I did it in the AF last night and had some slices in rolls with rocket and mayo. It was nice. I have some left for today.

I just had a banana, a cereal bar and a cup of coffee.

I ordered some things from Amazon that are arriving today. I got my indoors cats a scratching toy and I got a bath tray to put my kindle/book/drink on. It is still cold, but I haven't put the heating on yet as the room where my laptop is feels quite warm because of the sun.

I put a podcast on my phone so I will go for a walk and listen to it later.

Another blue sky & hard frost this morning, the heating is still cutting in during the night so still blooming very cold, but I did notice when putting wheely bin out yesterday I felt quite warm in the direct sunshine.

My pork in pressure cooker & crackling it AF worked, but a lot more faffing TBH than just bunging the joint in the gas oven. Mind I'm still experimenting which is what it's about.
My veg steamer / separator for the PC arrived yesterday, so a veg experiment is on the to-do list

Lunch, fish fingers. Asda had Birds Eye on offer, half price, which made them the same price as Asda own. I'm going to try one of each just to do my own taste test, can B Eye really be twice as nice? The ingredients appear to be very similar.

Dinner, another new trial, Asda own Bistro range, Steak ragù tagliatelle RM for one. I've had the lasagne, and it was very tasty, so I'm hoping the same for this.
They are dearer than a lot of MFOs, but when taste / value is taken into account it seems fair to me as an easy occasional option. Not sure if I'd venture into £5 curry ranges, though, but I'm not a big curry eater.

    Good morning everyone,
Frank is here and it's fair to say him an Hector are full of beans this morning.
I need to do some cooking today in preparation for my sister's birthday dinner tomorrow. She's requested a Med-type mezze though we are wandering via various countries. We are all taking dishes and I'm making Greek meatballs, white bean salad and Ottolenghi's curried cauliflower and egg salad. I made the meatball mix yesterday so will shape and fry them today so they just need a quick reheat tomorrow. DS1 and DIL2B are making a version of the pudding Leyla Kazim made using angel hair filo though with sour cherries rather than rhubarb. There was more meatball mix than I needed so I used some as a patty to have with roast veg for dinner last night. There are LOs for lunch. Dinner is the usual Friday tbc.
  • At long last we’re beginning to see a slight thaw, roads are black again but pavements are still dangerous in places where there is not a steady footfall.

Hairdresser this morning after spending half an hour on phone to bt, my digital voice unable to connect to internet so tried an old plug in the wall phone and it appears I am connected to someone else's phone line  :o - needs an engineer visit which wont happen until Tues  :#

Had a corned beef & ketchup sandwich for lunch and I’ll do a cheese & peppers pitta pizza for tea.

  • Apparently this is the last really cold day here for now. Wfh so heating on low all day, I’ll recover the cost at some point but I refuse to be cold.

Posh fishfinger sandwich for lunch. Made a potato, chorizo, spinach and sweetcorn hash tonight with a fried egg 😋
