I managed to avoid having the heating on all day but did move from the dining room to sofa in the lounge as it's warmer in there, my back door and cat flap are in the dining room 🥶

all this talk of fishfingers reminds me I have some in my freezer 😋 may add fish finger sandwich to the menu plan next week for lunch

i hadn't taken any soup out for lunch and no LOs for a change so cooked the pork mince I planned for dinner a throw together mince, mushrooms, fresh tomatoes and some other bits of veg and a chilli I ate it with lettuce cups.  I used some of the LOs and added grated cheese and made a 'burrito' in the AF it was very tasty 😋

  • Significant thaw overnight, temp has jumped from -2c to 5c. There’s a slight breeze so I’m taking the chance to get some washing out, before the next storm hits tomorrow. I’ll also charge up my puck lights, just in case of power outages.

There was a JCB working on the beach yesterday, re-distributing the shingle by the river estuaries obviously preparing for the huge volume of water coming down the river to the sea.

Just had a pear for breakfast, more from my soup stash for lunch, and baked sweet potato with chilli for later.

  • It is supposed to be much milder, but I feel a bit chilly still. I just put the heating on and will keep it on until about midday and then put on again tonight.

I have just made myself some builder's tea as I'm not that hungry yet. My Fitbit said I had a good sleep, 9 hours.

Thawed here, dull & grey but frost free, waiting on wind & rain for tomorrow.

My fish finger taste test showed I can't tell the difference between Bird's Eye & Asda own. Mind you, these were the Omega-3 minced Pollock type. Only bought because they are cheaper & on offer. In future, I'll stick to the posh cod fillet ones at twice the price, I suppose it's like mincemeat & rump steak, both are meat, but one is “real meat” IYSWIM

Meals today are unknown, something involving toast for lunch
Dinner, something involving cold LO cooked pork, maybe Stroganoff using Greek Yoghurt?

I tend to pick up the posher fish fingers when I see them on offer I have some haddock ones in the freezer 🙂

I talked myself out of going into town today as I didn't need anything so a pottering day, I made some bread rolls which turned into a loaf although I was able to tear and share it,

lunch was a prawn and egg roll.  I helped my sister babysit tonight and was fed dinner, I did take her down some of the rolls.  Warm welcome from the little one who dumped all her toys in my lap when I sat down and I was given my orders to play 😁

One of the nice things about visiting, I was always ordered to read, or upstairs building Lego. Guess it worked because all of them are avid readers and two are still into Lego, but it's the big boy stuff now, some kits are eye watering prices.

I have DD coming over later. She has volunteered a hand clearing some dead plants at the front, an easy job if you can bend & balance, nearly impossible if, like me, you can't :( .

Lunch, wait & see. DD is here about the same time, so it'll depend on her.
Dinner, last of the cold pork, in another Stroganoff. The one I made last night was great, added frozen peas & mixed peppers in to bulk up & variety. Rinse & repeat for tonight.

  • We have a yellow warning of wind and the rain is supposed to start this evening. I thought it still felt cold when I went out yesterday, but it feels much milder today.

I'm just having a cup of tea. I have Tesco arriving later. I don't think I have any bread left so I might go and buy some or have cereal instead.

    Good morning everyone,
AWOL yesterday as got waylaid with pooches, family and cooking. It was all hands on deck to pull my sister's birthday dinner together but we got there and the food was delicious. She was delighted. Ended up being a fairly late night so it's been a lazy start this morning. More tea needed before I put my kitchen back to rights. We ended up making focaccia, Greek meatballs, prawn saganaki, fried cheese, bean salad, tzatziki, curried egg and cauliflower salad and a fennel and orange salad. Dessert was kanafeh served with sour cherries in syrup.
Foul weather here and the storm is due to hit early evening. We're going to look after Ari overnight as my sis is heading to Glasgow, rather than trying to get home in the storm she's going to stay overnight with DS1 and DIL2B. The trains will probably go off late afternoon, especially as on Sunday's it's a replacement bus service due to line works. DS2 is out with Hector just now getting his main walk in before the weather closes down. I don't think they'll stray that far.
BLT for lunch and DS2 is cooking tonight - Jerk chicken with rice and peas and salad.
  • The wind is starting to pick up a bit now with the worst due to hit throughout the evening & overnight. Seems like everyone is likely to be affected by this storm, keep safe and warm.

A nice warming bowl of soup for lunch, picked up a kalamata olive bread from a local shop, its delicious but decided to freeze most of it in order to stop me picking at it.

Pork and mixed bean stew for tea, I’ll have it with some pasta and peas on the side.

  • I would like that olive bread. Yum.

I just checked my emails and my Tesco order has been unexpectedly cancelled. I had to rebook it for tomorrow at 10-11pm instead.

I have had a smoothie, some crisps and a sandwich today.

I was going to have a stir fry when Tesco arrived, but will have to look for something else now. I might make a pizza as I have some bases. I have Quorn, pineapple, pepper and onion to put on it.

I just went and closed all the windows and curtains. I did charge the torch and the lamp just in case. It is still quite quiet and mild here at the moment.
