Likewise, very frosty morning, with a touch of mistiness keeping any sun at bay

Lovely sunny but cold morning, clear skies and the heavens put on a fantastic show last night, its been years since I’ve seen the Aurora Borealis, its fascinating the colours that show through.

Ooh, very envious, that's one thing I would like, but am unlikely, to see, especially way down here in Hampshire

I was back to porridge this morning, bog-standard with banana, cheapo honey & yogurt. I used to have local honey, but the source dried up for Covid and I've not yet sorted a replacement.

Lunch, something hot, tin of soup or some sausages in baked beans
Dinner, one of the MFO ready meals

  • I fancied pesto pasta yesterday. I do have a jar of Sacla in the cupboard. I find when I batch cook pasta that it goes too soggy when I reheat a portion. Soup and curry seem to be fine reheated.

It was really cold last night and someone on here who lives local to me told me that it was snow that I got caught in yesterday, not sleet. It didn't snow again last night although it was predicted.

I have had a banana, an apple and some toast with Flora and Marmite. I had a cup of builder's tea when I woke up as I was cold. I'm having a Matcha green tea now.

    Good morning everyone,
Yes some things just don't seem to work as well made in small quantities. Thank goodness for freezers.  :)
We've had some snow, not masses but enough to lie. Being on the coast we tend to just get sleet rather than the proper stuff. Glasgow had had more and DS1 & DIL2B took Hector and Frank to the park. Frank wasn't very sure at first but then they were both loving it.  :)
I think DS2 is going to have a bit of a yucky drive back up the road today.
Apart from routine stuff I'm having a "day off" today, I'll get the stove set up to light later and I'm planning a sofa afternoon with my book or a film and might make a start on the Christmas cards.
Fridge bits for lunch and tonight it's bbq sauce glazed pork ribs, with coleslaw, corn and baked potatoes.
  • Had a lovely (if cold) day out meeting friends. Fabulous tapas lunch and a wander round an artisan craft market.

I’ve had scrambled eggs and mushrooms on toasted bagel this evening.

I thought about going into town but really CBA too cold out there and parking would be impossible in town.  Housekeeping chores done as was a couple of loads of washing the bedding will need to wait until the towels are dried. I made a fruit / spiced soda bread this afternoon, it was a bit wet so not prefect but still tasty 😋 I think I'm going  to have to find room in the freezer for it or pop to my sisters tomorrow with half :#

I spoke to one of my sisters tonight who tells me she was tripped up when dog walking, another dog slipped its collar and went for hers (no dog hurt) luckily a white van man stopped as did a car and both untangled her dog lead from around her and helped her up.  She's badly bruised and tells me she heard her head hit the pavement, but won't see anyone. She says as it happened Wednesday she would know if she wasn't ok.  Retired nurses make bad patients 🙄 and I may have lectured her again for walking on her own without her phone she is 76 and never takes it! She's doing a bit more of the dog walking as my BIL isn't feeling great with his treatment so she is doing the evening walk most nights.

A fishy day foodwise, sardines on toast for lunch.  Dinner was salmon with hassleback potato and green veg

I know Farway, I lived in the city for twenty years and way too much light pollution to see anything. I’m now in a small town in the countryside with much more dark sky surrounding us. We've been very lucky this year there have been lots of sightings but I kept missing them :D , I only knew about them because of photos on local facebook.

Its feeling a bit milder this morning, we did have a very pathetic attempt at a snow shower yesterday afternoon. I do feel sorry for those in Cumbria its no fun dealing with that amount of snow falling in such a short space of time.

Just a very ripe banana for breakfast, smashed avocado and a poached egg on toast for lunch. I defrosted a large chicken leg overnight I’ll do it in the slow cooker and have it with the usual Sunday roast trimmings.

Just dull, milder & wet this morning, very gloomy outside, another sofa day beckons
Made a loaf overnight so nice warm fresh bread whiff in the kitchen

Glad your sister's OK Brambling, and the kindness of strangers as well. I think it was a wise choice for you to avoid town yesterday, it gets to be a nightmare here locally, the large car park has two entrances but only one exit.
People have had automatic parking tickets in the past from number plate recognition because the time spent queuing to get out has taken them over the time limit. :s

Lunch, fresh bread, BLT sarnie time:smiley:
Dinner, MFO RM spinach & ricotta cannoli

I'm glad she is okay Brambling. I read that a lot of people hurt themselves with their dogs, especially with dog leads.

I really fancy roast potatoes so I'm having them later with stuffing, gravy and whatever "meat" sub I have in the freezer and whatever veg! I know I have frozen cauliflower at least. I am ordering a few bits food wise, but I don't need any more frozen food.

I just had a cup of tea with PB on wholemeal toast.

    Good morning everyone,
Glad your sister is okay Brambling
No more snow here just heavy sleety rain yesterday evening which froze overnight. It's cold, murky and very icy underfoot today.
Two days with Frank has broken Hector, he fell asleep upright on the couch with minutes of arriving back and was like that  for ages
No real plans for today, will do some prep for tomorrow's AGM and potter in the kitchen.
Roast lamb tonight with roasties, swede, sprouts and gravy.
  • Sprinkling of snow overnight but it was soon washed away - cold and wet all day here 😕

Have had a lazy day catching up on programmes whilst doing bits of voluntary admin, washing, ironing and general pottering.

Toasted bagel for lunch with cream cheese, mushrooms and crispy prosciutto. Lamb & rosemary sausages with garlicky cannellini bean mash and broccoli tonight.
