Good morning everyone,
Lovely to see posting here Need2bthrifty, yes the Shire does get very cold, my ex-SIL used to live in New Pitsligo and the winters were a shock compared relatively mild costal Ayrshire!
Sunny but cold today, it's to dip well below freezing tonight.
I'm as organised as I can be for the accounts audit this afternoon. "Christmas" arrives at some point today or at least the turkey, sausage meat, chipolatas and streaky. I'll make up the pigs in blankets over the weekend. I think there's enough freezer space but no doubt there will be a bit of shuffling needed!
Lunch will be a quick sandwich and tonight is tbc.0 -
I would hate to live anywhere that cold!
It is feeling much more chilly today. I was saying on here that I bought some gloves that you charge with a USB and I'm going to try them when I go out tomorrow.
I went out to get a facial last night and I ate out at a vegan BBQ place near me afterwards. I was talking to the owner and he said the Supervet (Noel Fitzpatrick) had eaten in there the night before. I had to google him although the name sounded familar.
I am going to have a smoothie and crumpets for breakfast.

Dull and bright at the same time, as Brambling alludes to, due to get colder and could be a frost tonight, but I'm all set & ready. As I hope DGD is Need2b, we did say and people have warned her, but you know what young ones can be like, never really believe voices of experience, if they did history would not repeat itselfNeed2bthrifty said:Good morning, hope you don’t me popping in, I do occasionally “lurk” around the OS board.
Farway its bl**dy cold here in Aberdeenshire and I hope your DGD has some good thermal clothing. We’ve got Northerly’s straight from the Arctic, daytime temp is to be at highest today 4 or 5 degrees but wind chill makes it feel like minus 1.
Even worse news - we are forecast for snow on the hills next week, likely to affect her more the me, but this could mean a very long winter this year
My old boss who was from Oldham, worked in the Shire for many years but could never get used to the biting North Sea winds that chill to the bone. As we say - there’s no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing.
Could be DGD turn for clemmingLunch, I'm going to try a tin of Heinz spag bol, on offer £1, and if OK I'll get some more for standby come in handyDiner, it's a defrosted YS MFO from Morries, beef in Ale with mash, I may do some frozen peas with itEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -

I'm going to have a tin for lunch with one or two of the Paul Hollywood ready to bake rolls. They are really nice.
I read that you can buy a Heinz big soup that tastes like Christmas dinner. I don't know that I would like that!

Cold and bright here today, feels like winter is properly here.
Productive wfh day and even finished nearly on time. Nipped straight out to get the few bits I wanted from sainsburys (nectar offers or brands or both).
Scrambled eggs and mushrooms on toasted bagel for lunch. Made a batch of nutty sweet potato stew tonight and had a portion with a pitta bread for dunking.0 -
Hi Need2bthrifty not my cat wasn't around when it was wet but he was laying in wait for my cat Monday 🙂 he seems to have realised that I won't let him in I'm glad Asia's feeling guilty slamming the door on him. Another neighbour has told me he lives 2 doors down although his name is still a mystery 🤔
Farway my brother moved to Yorkshire in the mid 80s and now calls us soft southerners if we complain about the cold, he also talks a strange hybrid of Dorset and Yorkshire my mum used to hate it 🙂
Nice quiet day at work with no meetings and a lot of my to do list ticked off. I was the team this afternoon
I 'fried' some chicken in the AF lunchtime and had with a coleslaw made with grated Kohlrabi instead of cabbage and a spicy mayonnaise 😋 I'll do that again. LO salmon en croute with green veg for dinner

A better morning today the temp still around 5 or 6 degrees but the 40mph wind has thankfully dropped to about 11 so feeling much more pleasant to be out and about.
I’ll wander up to the town centre for the Christmas lights “switch on” this afternoon. A church choir, school bands & choirs going to be there along with a local pipe band, I do love the pipes & drums but they always make me cry - is that a Scottish thing or just me - and of course a compulsory visit to the mulled wine & mince pie stall, got to be done to support our local charities/business.
Coconut and cinnamon porridge for me this morning with a drizzle of honey. Lucky dip soup for lunch - I’m still dreadful at labelling freezer stock - I know that its soup but it could be lentil, curried butternut squash, parsnip & carrot - they’re all the same colour so it’ll be a nice surprise. I made extra boiled rice last night so that I can have fried rice and a prawn/veg stir fry with what needs using up.caronc said:Good morning everyone,
Lovely to see posting here Need2bthrifty, yes the Shire does get very cold, my ex-SIL used to live in New Pitsligo and the winters were a shock compared relatively mild costal Ayrshire! My grandmother was born and brought up near New Pitsligo, they have quite a distinctive dialect up there, I love listening to it but even I find it hard to understand what's being said sometimes.
Farway said:Blimey if he felt cold coming from Oldham, I'll always remember just how frozen I was in Oldham on my first visit there to meet future in laws. The wind from the Moors just sliced me in half, in fact I was told I looked "clemmed & starved" which GF translated for meCould be DGD turn for clemmingI’ve never heard the expression clemmed but starved (pronounced star-ved) is a word that I’ve heard my grandparents use to describe being really really cold. I do hope your DGD is enjoying her work, it’s a stunning part of the countryside however nearby weather station at Aboyne often gets a mention on STV weather for the highest or lowest temp, after Altnaharra of course.

It feels cold to me this morning! I have the heating on and I'm having a cup of tea waiting for my dog to be picked up to take to the kennel. I am going to make some toast in a minute.
I am going to go and get some cash out as I went out without my wallet yesterday! Then I am going to an xmas fayre and then looking in Morrisons and Iceland as I never really look in/order from those supermarkets and they are nearby.
I am going out in London tonight and I am heating up my USB charged gloves to see if they actually make me warmer.2025 GOALS

Good morning everyone,
Yes it's a strange accent in that area and hard to follow if you're not used to it. Nope not just you the pipes and drums always make me feel a bit weepy too N2BT.
Forgot to mention yesterday that the roofer popped by on Thursday, it's just a few minor repairs and a bit of new flashing needed which he'll fit in over the next couple of weeks.
Accounts audit went smoothly and only took a couple of hours.
My butcher's order arrived yesterday evening, Turkey is in the freezer and today's challenge is to turn 4lbs of cocktail chipolatas (80-90 sausages) into pigs in blankets. I've saved takeaway containers ready to portion and freeze them. A large chub of sausage meat also needs portioned, vac packed and frozen ready to make the stuffing.
Very frosty here this morning and still -3C at 9am. It's only just beginning to thaw now. DS2 has gone to get new front tyres fitted and buy more rat traps as there's some signs of them in the garage. After the bother neighbours a few doors down had during the summer I'm hoping it's not our "turn" to get a nest!! Thankfully the garage is well away from the house.
Fridge bits for lunch and either fishfinger or pigs in blankets sandwiches for dinner.0 -
First frost here this morning, but bright & sunny for the day, it seems. I went out early to plant some pansies in the volunteer pots, been wanting to that for ages, but it was never the right time. Done now and ready for Spring.caronc said:
