At last sun's out & feeling like a proper Autumn dayLast of my plums picked, sounds like a harvest but it was only two
, delicious but a disappointing year for them this year, weather I guess. My grapes are also looking like a disappointment on the way, showing no signs ripening at all
However the B & A were stewed yesterday so lots of that, too much to use in a forever crumble so I think I'll probably freeze it in handy portion sizesSlight bit of excitement, new neighbours moving in one door down, I like the couple in there, he knocked on my door volunteering shopping etc when lock-down started, and she has offered to wheel my wheelie round the front for me, all small things but welcomeNew couple so I'm told are first time buyers, a good buy because the house has been really worked on, he said it was only the lockdown that triggered the move, nearby but detached bungalow with lots of on site parkingMeanwhile food here today is fairly mundaneLunch, maybe the long awaited f/finger sarnie?Dinner, I keep thinking about the Iceland Harry Ramsbottom frozen F & Cs I have lurking, maybe tonight?Make today fish FridayGardener’s pest is chef’s escargot0 -
Good morning everyone,
Pub supper was great thanks JKS, I had a Greek style flatbread filled with spicy chicken & salad with chips. I enjoyed every bite.
Fishy dinner for me too Farway, once Tesco have been DS2 and I are heading to the fishmongers so will see what I fancy tonight.
Family bbq tomorrow, I have brisket defrosting to sous vide overnight, octopus defrosted which I'll slow cook first so it's tender and I'll spatchcock a chook. With salads and bread we shouldn't go hungry!
As we are heading into town, lunch may well be a pie or pasty of some description.0 -
Oh yum, caronc 😋
Slightly busier than planned home working day today, couple of crises that diverted me 🙄, oh well, the weekend is here and I’ve had a 🍸
Lunch was the end of the falafels, end of the couscous and end of the halloumi with some salad and cucumber and mint raita. Back to a traybake tonight - sausages, new potatoes, mushrooms and tomatoes with garlic and thyme.0 -
Good morning everyone,
Dry and sunny here. Unfortunately family bbq has been postponed for a couple of weeks, DS1 & DIL-to-be have the sniffles and poor DS2 must have had a dodgy mussel ...... Best laid plans and all that. Today I'll need to do a bit of food prep so that nothing gets wasted, thank goodness for freezers and I want to give the bathroom a thorough bleaching. If it's sunny early evening I plan to sit in the garden with a vino or G&T.

Oh dear Caron, just as it was looking a nice weekend for you all. Vino well earned I'd sayThe dodgy mussel, I must have had dodgy something yesterday, maybe it was the tartare sauce? Can't see frozen F/fingers causing it. However whatever it was dinner was skipped and just had a slice of marmalade on HM bread laterSunny & warm today, gardening completed, only watering the pots. The stewed apple & blackberry I will portion up & freeze later today, don't fancy a crumble right now so I echo Caron, thank goodness for freezersLunch, toast & maybe grilled cheese or marmite, or bothDinner, if it keeps sunny I think defrost a salmon fillet, with salad & new spuds and maybe make some coleslaw now I have a fresh white cabbage from W8roseGardener’s pest is chef’s escargot0

Good morning everyone,
DS2 has fully recovered, hopefully your tum has too Farway.
Dinner ended up being pasta with HM tomato sauce with roasted chicken thighs. LOs for lunch.
The sun is trying to break through and forecast looks okay until the evening. Washing machine is just about finished so hopefully the laundry will dry before the rain arrives.
Pooch sitting overnight tonight again but apart from that I have little planned apart from making some more pesto as the basil is rampaging again!
Pork steaks or some of the sous vide brisket for dinner.0 -
Forgot to post yesterday. Had brunch of scrambled eggs and mushrooms on toasted bagel, and then there was tea and cake during an outing 😉
Last night was steak with cannellini beans, coriander spinach and feta.
Beautiful day here, two loads already on the line! Just had a smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel for lunch with cherry tomatoes and cucumber batons. Making chorizo and sweet potato hash later.0 -
Bit late today, tum settled but played up again last night, most odd really because I had salmon fillet last night, I wonder if somehow collected a fish intolerance or something daftToday is a real scorcher outside, managed to do bit of garden tidying by putting more stuff into the garden wheelie binAnother maybe mushroom on my lawn, chatting to neighbour yesterday and she had some plate sized ones on her lawn., both of us undecided but her friend is a fungi expert so she may ask him next time he's there, assuming the mushroom are still about of courseMade a fresh ciabatta earlier, so it was cheese & salad sarnie for lunchDinner, given recent tum events I may just go for a sarnie later, otherwise it'll be a salad with maybe a frozen Cheese & onion Gregg's pastyHere's the maybe mushroom and looking a bit grey nowGardener’s pest is chef’s escargot0

Shame about the tum Farway, I suppose the only way to find out would be to keep a food diary and see if any patterns emerge.
Lovely photo of the mushroom but I've no idea if it's an edible one!
I decided on brisket for tonight, I had split a large joint in two planning to use the larger piece yesterday and freeze the smaller one. It's now vice versa. It just needs popped in the oven for 15 mins to brown. I have shallots, garlic, mushroom stalks, red wine, thyme, brisket trim and the cooking juices simmering for gravy. With baby spuds, mushrooms, savoy cabbage and green beans it should do us nicely. There's a glass of red for the cook as well.
My sister's pooch is here overnight, he's snuggled up on the sofa with DS2 but raises his head to sniff like a Bisto kid every so often. I think he has high hopes lol!0 -
Go on Caronc spoil him 😁
I arrived back early this morning having told my BIL to wake me when he went to walk the dog which is usually 6am, today the dog wanted out at 5.20am 🙄 at least it meant a quiet journey home, I got home via T Express by 9.30am and had the first load of washing on 😁
I was lucky with the weather so loads of walking done, unfortunately West Dorset has a lot of steep hillsand my sis and I spent a couple of hours at Bridport hat festival yesterday complete with Morris dancers and a good 'folk' band . Double doses of hay fever tablets and my preventative inhaler meant I survived the 'incredibly moulting' Jack Russell 😬
My shopping delivery is due on Tuesday so T Exp supplied me with a few fresh bits. Lunch was a ham and cheese salad roll. I picked up a YS small pork joint half price, but as it turned out too hot for a full roast dinner I had it with courgette chips and French beans (my sister picked the runners 🙄 but isn't so keen on French beans ) both her and my nephew also walked past my pots every day and failed to see their need for watering so my first job was a good water before it got too warm. This week I've a couple of appointments and a list of things needing doing in the house and garden, I came back with plants from the market yesterday so I need to find room for them 😬Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage - Anais Nin0
