@caronc - my greenhouse toms had blight when they were far too green to do anything. I made most of them into a tomato sauce which I froze for use in stews etc at a later date. I also made a green tomato cake, which was pretty dense and muffin-like, but strangely moreish (my tomato-hating nephew loved it) and reminiscent of apple cake. I wouldn't make it in quite such large quantities in future, but it's nice to have a non-chutney option!

I'm just hoping that some of my peppers and chillies actually ripen, and a few more aubergines appear. I think i've got 3 so far.

Stop talking about blight !!!!! :) , mine are free so far in the conservatory, all ripening nicely now and starting to taste like tomatoes

A very nice break over DDs yesterday, all the stuff I like, smoked salmon sarnies, cheese & pickle, cream + jam scones, fruit crumble & cream. I had to pass on the sausage rolls though, they'd used Quorn in them which literally makes me puke. Just had to make do with the rest. I ate too much TBH :(

Today is easy day, sun's out but only thing I've done so far is a ready mix loaf in the Panny & completed my on line W8rose order, including posh jumbo F/ fingers which are still on offer. Arrives early PM Tuesday

Lunch was corned beef & pickle sarnie [fresh loaf]
Dinner, now I've discovered the long lurking posh F/ fingers it's two of them, plus HM AF chips + LO nuked baked beans

Only garden stuff maybe take photo of my hibiscus flowers in the sunshine. My remaining sunflower is fully open in the sun and about nine feet tall, not as large as I'd hoped but givenr the poor showing of other things happy to have it

Oh no greenbee, I'm hoping that most of them will ripen. I usually find they do in the conservatory given long enough though the late ones are better for cooking rather than eating raw if not will be green tomato recipes abound though not chutney as I don't use enough of it to make it worth while. Fingers crossed for the rest of your veg.
Farway hope yours remain blight free, this is first time I've been hit for many years and that time I lost my crop, I'm more savvy now at spotting the signs! I was chatting to my neighbour across the back lane and his got smitten a week or so ago (again in a greenhouse) and also lost a patch of spuds so it probably drifted from there. Deck ones are okay so far, just need to hurry and ripen. Sounds like lovely grub at your DDs. :)
  • Went out for an early dinner last night so the only actual “Cooking” FO was poached eggs and smashed avocado on toast for brunch.

Today started very productively with food shopping and a swim but have then pottered my way through the rest of the day…lunch was sweet potato falafels and houmous in pitta, and dinner was prawn and peanut stir fry with noodles, baby corn and mange tout.

    Good morning everyone, m
Our lamb dish yesterday was gorgeous, a bit quite a lot faffy to make but worth it. One I'll definitely make again. LOs for lunch.
DS2 is busy fence painting and I'm contemplating a pile of voluntary admin.
Trying another new recipe tonight "Sweet and sour sausages" which we'll have with boiled rice. Sweet-sour sausages and spiced mince pasta: Ravinder Bhogal’s easy recipes for a staycation | Food | The Guardian

Afternoon all, dull & chilly but nothing doing anyway, except ordering next year's seeds, taking advantage of free P & P offer.

I decided to make a rice pud before my OOD milk finally goes off, and I have more on the way from W8rose tomorrow, I've just removed pud from the oven for a taster and pleased to say it is super stuff and now cooling. It'll go well with stewed blackberries & apples later on today

Lunch was cheese & tom sarnie
Dinner, apart from rice pud it'll be LO last of corned beef, in an omelette, with HM AF use last of the spuds chips, with use up last bit of lettuce & cuc salad, maybe add some of my HG tommies to it now they are tasty

Blackberries aren't ripe here yet @Farway. Summer rasps are pretty much over, autumn ones don't seem to be doing much. They were fabulous last year, so it's disappointing.

Lunch here is smoked mackerel pate and crudites. A bit late, but no point in eating when you're not hungry.
  • Hasn’t felt like a bank holiday weekend but I’ve quite enjoyed chilling and catching up with things. Has been overcast and not very warm, definitely autumnal…

Did some domestics this morning and then had a swim before lunch of houmous, olives, parma ham, salad and freshly baked part baked bread roll. Made a big batch of spiced chicken with apricot rice and mint raita this evening. Had some tonight with some tender stem broccoli and a 🍷, well it is a bank holiday 😉

Def Autumnal as well here this morning, stew & dumpling weather really
Yesterday's use up milk rice pud turned out well, plenty left cold, which i quite like although it's not everyone's' choice

Message from W8rose, shopping on the way minus Jumbo posh F / Fingers on offer. Fortunately I have the nice real cod Asda ones in so not a problem as I was only taking advantage of offer to stock up anyway.
The rest is all there including the free monthly WR magazine. Do they ever sell any at £3? Or really I suppose who'd buy it is more to the point?

Lunch, use up stale bread for grilled cheese on toast. And thanks to whoever reminded me, splosh of L & P Worcester will be included
Dinner, depends on the food delivery, there's steak and sausages in there, plus salad items so should something be close to Use By that'll be the prime decider for the meal. If nothing shouts out then could be something stab & ping from the freezer

    Good morning everyone,
    Decidedly Autumnal here too Farway.
DS2 is on holiday this week so we are heading out for lunch in a nearby town. First time I've been out my home town in over a year! Not planning to have much for dinner this evening - "something on toast" if I'm hungry and that will be about it.
