I had a lovely lunch out with DS2 - venue was great, food decent and service top notch. I had very traditional pate to start and haddock goujons & chips for main course from their two course lunch special.
When we came back DS2 spent ages in the kitchen prepping tomorrows Chicken Zafrani curry - definitely not a CFO dish lol!!
My big excitement of the day is that Waitrose have started delivery to my area - apart from the much lauded fish fingers will be looking for suggestions.
  • Good evening.

Glad you enjoyed lunch out, caronc. And ooh, Waitrose deliveries, what a treat. They often have offers of 3 for £10 on meat and fish that are good value if you pick carefully, and some of their Essentials range is not much more expensive than other supermarkets. They also used to do 20% off fresh fish on Fridays…

Lunch today was LO spiced chicken and rice (it made loads) and I had an early tea of scrambled eggs and mushrooms on toasted bagel so that I could swim this evening 😇

    Good morning everyone,
Thanks JKS I'll have a look at the 3 for £10 offers.
Lovely and sunny here today, I intend to make the most of it and head to the garden.
DS2 is in charge of dinner - Chicken Zafrani which we'll have with rice & naan.
Cheese & ham salad for lunch.

Another dull old day here, out earlier watering the volunteer pots and talking of Autumnal there are a few leaves on the ground already, not long now!

Ooh, W8rose Caron, very nice, is your one with free delivery as well? Som charge under some random method but Brambling & mine are free. maybe depends what competition is around?
Not sure if you're a member but worth joining their scheme, free, used to get free coffee etc but for me the big CV19 advantage is slots are available due to age that other cannot access until later, so lock downs + age means first dibs at a delivery slot, not always successfully I should add

The 3 for £10 offer are good depending what you want, the F/fingers that never arrived where part of it, but the steaks which was also part did arrive and they honoured the  multi buy discount, charged 3.37 instead of £4.50. I do tend to ensure I go for the expensive stuff if it's multi buy, to my mind no point in ordering 3 items at £3.50 each when you can order 3 @£4.50 for same total price

Another good offer they do at times is cheese, you have to pick & choose, my offers this time were David Stowe Cornish Cheddar, 550g for £4.00[1/3 off]
What I do like is you can add remarks to the online order, like small bananas please, or if allowing subs specify that you do not want say diced carrots if whole ones not available
There will be the Gammon joint offer some time as well 1/3 off normally, Brambling & I will be jostling you at the checkout ;)

    Meals today
    Lunch, cheese sarnie, very boring
Dinner, lots to choose from but may settle on a frozen pizza, need a bit of freezer space for a posh meat top up soon

Excellent Farway thank you. Delivery is free for over £40 though that might be temporary while it's new. Sub system sounds similar to Tesco. I've signed up for membership though I'm unlikely to visit a store as the nearest one is 30+ miles away!
ETA - they have gammon joints on offer (20% off until 12/10)
  • Veggie day today here…more sweet potato falafels in pitta for lunch and halloumi and couscous stuffed pepper tonight. Plenty of couscous left for lunches 😉

Another dull & grey morning, not that I was doing much anyway just sun feels better than grey murk
I finished up with just LO cold HM rice pud for dinner yesterday, by the time dinner came round I didn't fancy CFO so cold rice pud was a fine substitute

The rice pud cooking dish has been in soak overnight, despite buttering it is really caked on, let's see how good Platinum dishwasher tablets really are >:)

I've a ciabatta in the Panny but doubt it will be ready in time for lunch, too fresh & hot, in which case it's probably stale bread toast & maybe Marmite
Dinner, don't know, can't say I fancy much right now but the fresh loaf should be fine for a fish finger + tartare sauce sarnie if all else fails

Big excitement today, first day of Secondary school for youngest grandchild, she  went of with her big brother this morning, she is a happy child but can readily turn to tears at times if a bit scared or unsure, should be fine though because she is a brain box and laps up learning new things so will probably be an expert by the time she gets home

The other excitement is DD family have bought a beach hut here, they are never for sale but SIL is in the swimming club & a member was selling due to her age, job done and it's theirs now, very handy as DD lives just a bit further up the coast towards Southampton, the sea is very shallow there so ideal for paddle boarding etc, area is full of history except some of the castle has fell into the sea this winter :'(

    Good morning everyone,
Good luck to DGD, I'm sure she'll get on fine but good she had her big brother there until she finds her feet. A beach hut how fab.  :)
I'm pooch sitting today and then heading out for dinner to the local pub this evening. A pan of tomato sauce using homegrown tomatoes is simmering on the stove. I'll blend, portion and freeze it later.
Tesco order needs finalising and the dishwasher emptying and re-filling then I'm for a quiet afternoon.
    LO chicken for lunch.

Quick update, loads more apples + blackberries picked, loads more stewed B & A on the way later
The rice pud dishes, now sort of clean but a touch of Brillo would work wonders on the really burnt on stuff

  • Hope you enjoyed your pub supper caronc.

Office day today so some of the LO couscous with added tuna and sun dried tomatoes in a lunchbox. Easy tea of broccoli and pesto pasta with salmon.

The sun came out briefly late afternoon and I had a short walk when I got home, definitely feeling cooler in the evenings though…
