Good afternoon everyone,
Brambling, yes I would say it's worth buying a jar of black bean sauce. My younger son's aim is to move back to Scotland in the next few years but wants to get his Chartership first so he can work as a senior engineer or higher. His current employer has been very supportive of him getting this so makes sense to stay with them as others aren't always as good. It's one of those professions that takes 10-12 years all in to really get on the ladder career-wise - 5 years at uni to Masters level then 5-7 years to complete the chartership. He had hoped to finish early 2021 but everything has been knocked back by Covid.
Definitely not Spring-like here today it's cold, wet and very windy.
Tesco have been and all was as ordered, the groceries have been sanitised and stashed and I've given the bathroom a good scrub so I'm ready to do not very much for a few hours.
Cheese and ham toastie for lunch and dinner is tbc. My son will no doubt have his usual Friday chippy and I'll see what I fancy later possibly pizza or breaded haddock unless I cba cooking something from scratch.0 -
Is it the 7 ways JO book you have caronc? I do like him but found the 30 minute meals and 3 ingredient books a bit basic, shall we say...
Goats cheese and pesto filled pasta (ready made) with tuna, sweetcorn and sun dried tomatoes for lunch. Made prawn Thai curry tonight (bought paste), served with noodles and wine 😉1 -
Black bean sauce on the shopping list Caronc although unless T Exprss sell it that will be next weekend as I don't plan to go to town tomorrow.
Lunch was a repeat of yesterday egg Mayo and cress salad, I boiled the last of the older eggs before the new ones arrived. I got SM eggs as I don't want to go to town just for nicer eggs at the farmers marketThe Asda salmon delivered yesterday contained two good size bits so I cut the thin ends off of both before freezing and made a salmon and asparagus risotto for dinner, with pan fried mushrooms, I cut the salmon small and cooked it in the heat of the risotto. When the risotto was cooking I made broccoli and leek soup, adding some lurking kale, a celery stick and the out leaves of a sweetheart cabbage, it's a very vibrant greenand I think I'll keep hold of it as my sister won't eat it 🙂

'morning all, there's a bright patch of grey above which may have a sun behind it, looking at forecast I'm in the fuzzy in between zone so could go either wayThe last of my parcels is due today, nothing exciting, only an extension lead.My old one the switch doesn't work, I tried to get inside to sort it but it has anti tamper screws that require a special screwdriver and it's cheaper to buy a new extension lead than the screwdriver. That's modern economics for you
With more landfill and keeping a Chinese factory going
Meals all sorted for the dayLunch is a warmed up Smart Price C & O pastie, use by was midnight, so hoping I survive with 12 hours OODDinner, I've a posh FR pork steak defrosting, the intention being another roast style dinner, steamed fresh cauli, broccoli, cabbage, carrots and try to remember to use one of the leeks this time. Good afternoon everyone,
Yes it's the 7 ways book JKS, they're not stretching recipes more different ways to cook commonly bought ingredients so if you are looking for something more challenging I'd give it a miss. However, it's great book if you want some inspiration on what do make for dinner and I can't remember the last time I cooked so many dishes from one book. If you're unsure the recipes for some of the dishes are on his website so worth a look.
Wet and wild here today but hopefully to improve tomorrow. This afternoon my son is giving me a hand to declutter a dresser and cabinet in the dining room which have become a bit of a dumping ground over the past year.
Bacon and eggs for brunch and chicken fajitas for dinner this evening.2 -
I second the 7 way book also useful as a lot of the recipes are for 2
Grey day here but no rainit did get blowy last night, I even shut the bedroom window it sounded like someone hadn't wheeled their bin back in as something definitely blew over.
I didn't need to go out so had a lazy day in. Fridge tidied and cleaned, shelves washed etc and with the ricotta I found at the back I made ricotta and almond cookies, there are rather a lot 😋 some have gone in the freezer and I'll take some to my sister tomorrow or they have to roll me out of the door at the end of the week 😬
lunch was a mug of broccoli soup with grated cheddar stirred in. Dinner a FR south down lamb chump chop with green veg and mash potatoesLife shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage - Anais Nin2 -
Thanks caronc. I do miss being able to flick through a book before buying it 🙄
Bit of ironing, a walk and soup making were today’s excitement. Lunch was quiche and baked beans, made harissa butternut squash and feta couscous salad tonight.1 -

Good morning everyone,
A huge change in the weather after a very wild day yesterday, it's dry and calm. After a lazy start I've had a reasonably productive morning and once I've finished a much needed cuppa I'm going to get my dahlia and begonias out of hibernation, re-potted and into the conservatory. Hopefully it won't be too long until the first new shoots appear. A few signs of spring in the garden and one lonely crocus is flowering. I'm sure the rest won't be far behind. Small things but it does give me a boost in what seems to have been a very long winter. I think like many folk I'm finding this lockdown harder than the previous one.
Bacon and eggs again for lunch. A treat tonight with some rose veal escalopes, if I cba I'll roast some baby hassleback spuds to have with them along with various veg and a peppercorn sauce.0 -
Had some of the soup I made yesterday for lunch after a lovely 5 mile walk in very mild weather. Roast chicken, roast potatoes and carrots with cabbage and gravy tonight (leftovers for the next few days 😜)1
