Another nice YS haul there Bramblng, a just consolation prize for nearly wasted journey
Dull & icy, with warm rain from the West maybe later

Yesterday's posh FR turkey breast roll was very nice, turned out even better than I had anticipated with plenty left for a few more meals
I finally cleared out the last LO frozen mixed red berries  that have been glaring at me every time I looked in the freezer, mixed them in my breakfast porridge this morning, making space a corner at a time

Lunch, has to be turkey & ???? sarnie. I don't have stuffing which would be first choice of course
Dinner, cold sliced turkey, I think with salad & boil some of the newly delivered "baby" potatoes as change from AF chips

    Good afternoon everyone
    Good YS haul Brambling
Turkey and bacon or cold sausage with some mustard and mayo for me please Farway  :)
We had quite a lot of (for here) snow fall yesterday afternoon a good 5cm or so. It's turned to wind and rain now though it doesn't feel any warmer.
Our attempt at replicating the hotel's burger worked very well though it was fair to say far more rustic in appearance but tasted fab. In the end I didn't make the carrot ant apple salad as the yoghurt for the dressing was a tad elderly, fine for cooking with but that's about it. Instead we had a simple green salad.
Roast chicken for dinner tonight.  :D  We are cooking a small whole one with view to using the LOs for some lunches this week.

Tomato and sweet potato soup and cheese scones made this morning for the next couple of lunches. I make the Tesco's Nanas magic soup slightly tweaked, which is really nice, the coconut milk takes the acid away from the tomatoes.

Lunch was a salmon and watercress sandwich using some of the hot smoked salmon I brought YS yesterday.  I took half the soup and scones around to my sister this afternoon for a slice of my nephew's lemon drizzle cake and a cuppa.  It was dry and very cold when I went in and heavy rain when I left at 5.30pm.

Dinner was pork and vegetable stir fry.  After all the turkey talk I've taken a turkey breast joint from the freezer for tomorrow.

More overnight rain, but it's warmer at least
failed on last night's turkey salad dinner, my tum was poorly, which I think is down the new pills, one of the known side affects apparently
I finished up with toast & jam but it was adequate and all I fancied

Today's meals will hopefully be more substantial
Lunch turkey & salad sarnie. I made a fresh loaf in the Panny last night, just waiting t scoffed
Dinner, going posh all being well, I have some smoked salmon trimmings, so I'll pair that with scrambled eggs, plus mushrooms cooked in butter / EVO, possibly for some veg  like a fresh tomato on the side?

A problem with buying large vegetables such as cabbages and cauliflower when you live alone, is that you either have them for diner every evening for a week, or you end up throwing out half of them.  One way I have found to keep them fresh is simply to treat them like cut flowers and put them in water.

I use a deep bowl with just enough water in it to cover the whole base of the vegetable buy about half an inch.  Small roots quickly grow and  the vegetable fresh for weeks. You need to top out the water ever week.  I do this topping up along with watering my house plants.  The method particularly works well for cabbages where you can take a few leaves off the cabbage every few days without any harm to the cabbage's freshness.  Since using this method, I have never thrown out any unused cabbage.

    Good morning everyone,
Hello Mistral001, yes that works though I don't usually do it for cabbage as I find as long as you peel the leaves rather than cut into it that they last for ages in the fridge. I usually have a jar of spring onions on the go and they last for ages.
Hope tum is better today Farway
Wet and windy here but much milder, the heating is off and I've shed a layer and my thermal socks!  :)
I have a rather lovely looking butcher's ham hock and peas soaking in preparation to make pea and ham soup. The soup is for tomorrow as we've decided to have a "soup and pudding" evening meal and indulge in some pancakes for pudding. It will be sugar and lemon for me and Nutella and banana for my son.
My son is cooking this evening - Fuchsia Dunlop's Gong Bau prawns, I'm in charge of defrosting the prawns but otherwise get a night off.  LO chicken for lunch probably in a sarnie with salad leaves and mustard mayo.

I don't have a problem with veg lasting, but then I eat a huge amount of them! Having said that I've found it lasts a lot better since I've got a new fridge (the old one was about 15 years' old. The majority of my diet is leafy green veg and I don't throw out food - the ribs/stalks/outer leaves etc go into soup at the end of each week.

I've a couple of large lock &lock veg boxes which I put a tea towel in the bottom under the rack and veg lasts a lot longer in them.  This time a year odds and ends and any bendy veg are turned into soup at the weekend.

This morning when shutting the fridge a jar fell off the top and landed on the bin, other than giving me a shock as it made quite a bang it broke the bin lid in two 😐 I'm now using the recycling bin which is too small until I can find a replacement, I'm fussy what I want, think Goldilocks
pit can't be too big or too small :) and I refuse to pay a small fortune for one or get one which needs special liners.  Then tonight when I opened the cupboard a new mug fell out and landed on the spoon rest breaking both (my fault for not sorting the mugs when I was given new ones at Xmas and getting rid of old ones 🙄)  I'm sitting not moving until I go to bed so not to break anything else

between today's breakages I have eaten  :D  lunch was the soup and cheese scone I made yesterday. Dinner roast Turkey breast, braised red cabbage with cranberries (cranberries from the freezer) root veg mash and a courgette fritter both from the freezer.  LOs for tomorrow dinner

    Good morning everyone
Hope you have no more breakages today Brambling
Stormy here today and quite a bit cooler than yesterday but it's dry at the moment.
Boiler engineer is back this afternoon, since the boiler was taken to bits last week it's losing pressure. I'm hoping that maybe a connection wasn't fully tightened when it was put back together and not anything major.
Chicken salad sarnie again for lunch then pea and ham soup tonight followed by pancakes. I cooked the soup yesterday so it should be properly rib-sticking by today.

Dr's first thing, passed, continue with same pills, then along to Wickes's in town to see if I am still able to pick up a 50L bag of compost, yep, still can, so ordered some for delivery tomorrow, can't choose a time, it's between 7 - 7, fingers crossed it's mid morning and not 1859

I also popped into the co-op for milk and found a lovely CFO size YS cauliflower, could be C cheese on the way
