Seems a lot of electrical failures in CFOdom lately, my fingers are crossed but I think most of my electric stuff is fairly new, except the MW which my daughter bought for me after she arrived with newborn number one grandson & wanted to heat his bottle in my non existent MW :)
Number one GS is now over six feet tall & at college :o

Another ciabatta loaf in the Panny this morning, maybe cooled in time for lunch
I've taken some posh sausages out to defrost, some for lunchtime sarnie if bread is in time
Dinner, sausages in some form, maybe with mash / chips etc or if CBA inside a sarnie

    Good morning everyone,
Fingers crossed for no more appliance failures in CFO land.
A chilly-7C here this morning which is tropical compared to further North! It's lovely looking outside but equally lovely to be looking at it from a warm home after yesterday's repairs. Like many folk I grew up in a single glazed house with a coal fire but I wouldn't want to go back to that, much as I love the stove I'll have it in tandem with central heating please.
With all the toing and froing and appliance being moved/pulled out my kitchen floor is filthy, today's challenge is to get it restored to something a tad more hygienic! No sign of any mice in the traps which we've baited with peanut butter and jam which usually seems to get them. I'm hoping that means they haven't come in but we'll leave the traps for a few days just in case.
Dinner yesterday ended up as a real bung together there was LO sauce and rice from making curry and I'd defrosted some bangers. Add in some fridge gravel veg (onions, mushrooms, red pepper and green beans) and it made a really tasty curried sausage kind of pilaf thingy which we both really enjoyed but is probably impossible to replicate lol.
Toastie I think for lunch and tonight we are trying the "Cajun eggs" from the JO 7 ways book.

Caronc I'm also from the era of single glazing and just a coal fire for heating, ice inside the window, if you dared to move from in front of the fire isomeone would have stolen your spot before you left the room and wouldn't give it back 😁 so many blankets and coats put on the bed, I still can't sleep when the room is too warm, I sleep with the window open all year round.  My boiler was serviced this morning, it's out in the bin store so the poor guy got very cold 🥶  I reminded him it was his idea to put it there 🙂 it's 15 years old so it's always good when he gives it the thumbs up for another year

Microwave collected lunchtime and they took the old one to recycle which saved a job 🙂 it's bigger than my old one as I forgot I usually buy a cfo size one but strangely enough the outside isn't a lot bigger than the last one 🧐 I haven't checked the airfryer fits next to it yet so here's hoping 🤞

Lunch was a burger from the freezer in a ciabatta roll. I didn't finish work until gone 7 tonight and had lost the urge to have the salmon i had planned for dinner.  I made a batch of green soup using a mix of all the end of week green veg lurking in the fridge with leek and a potato to thicken it so just had a mug of that

    Good morning everyone
Brambling I can't sleep in a too warm room though do close the window at this time of year. Hope all is okay with the boiler.
Chilly here again though not quite as cold at a paltry -3C first thing.
Tesco are due to arrive soon and I'm hoping my log order will appear as well. Apart from that I've nothing interesting planned unless cleaning the loo counts as "interesting"!
The JO Cajun eggs recipe was very good and potentially CFO friendly as it was  basically a spud/veg tray bake with eggs baked in with it and Cajun seasoning. Another one from the book we'll make again, so far everything we've tried has worked and been tasty.
Tesco are due soon and I've ordered some fish goujons which I think may well form dinner while my son has his usual chippy. Toastie for lunch again I think.

Busy morning here, chiropodist first thing, then my Asda delivery arrived, this time everything was there despite the threat of short supply for some items and no subs, happy bunny with bulging freezers now
I have loads of fresh mushrooms as I had anticipated the ones on offer would vanish, but they didn't, not that I mind, always squeeze mushrooms in somewhere
And the pizza baguettes were also there
Quite pleased with it today, all have long shelf life, and even the leeks look OK for planned leek & tattie soup during the week

Because of the delivery faffing lunch was toast + lemon curd
Dinner, LO HM cream of celery soup
I may take a posh FR joint out to defrost later for the weekend now I have fresh veggies to hand, not sure which joint yet, maybe turkey never used for XCFO

Good news on boiler, bit like MOT + cars, sigh of relief
I've noticed MWs are smaller now, for same inside, I wonder if it's with all the advances in electronics & smaller components, like mobiles were bricks once upon a time

I agree about the book Caronc it's definitely one I've used a lot, most are easy and quite a few for two people so easier for CFO

Farway I've just booked the MOT for beginning of March but as the car is only 6 with 35000 on the clock I expect it to be ok, and not many miles on the tyres this year

it was so cold when I put the bins out last night that I expected it to frost so was very surprised when it didn't, it's still been really cold so a day I've been glad I'm stuck indoors

Lunch was mug of 'green' soup with a ciabatta roll. Dinner was pan fried salmon, new potatoes and vegetables.  I need todo a quick fresh food audit and work out if I need to pop out tomorrow, I will if I want fresh F&V but I still have some garden produce in the freezer as well as some root veg in the fridge, it will depend on what soup I'll make next week   🤔

  • I think cleaning the loo being interesting ranks alongside ironing being exciting caronc 😂

Another one here not too bothered to be stuck indoors today. Did manage a walk in the sunshine yesterday afternoon though.

Don’t know why I didn’t update yesterday - lunch was jacket potato with cheese and tuna mayo, dinner was HM ready meal (courgette and halloumi bake) and garlic bread.

Rest of the tuna and cheese in a pitta melt for today’s lunch. Turned the fridge gravel into risotto tonight but added some smoked salmon 😋

Dull & windy, looks cold but but I'm not tempted to try it
Dinner last night was use up the last of the HM celery soup and the burnt pan came clean after a soak and long cycle in the DW, Yay! :)

I took a rolled turkey breast out to defrost yesterday, must be cold it's still part frozen now :(
I'm intending to cook it in cast iron pot in the oven, the joint's a big 'un. about a kg, posh FR etc so should do for a few meals

Lunch, has to be a sarnie, probably cheese & salady
Dinner, using the turkey breast & hoping to be full on roast now I have fresh veggies, including broccoli, the "Christmas that never was" but I'll use frozen Aunty B's roast spuds, and no stuffing as it has gone AWOL somewhere in the freezer :'(

    Good afternoon everyone
Lol JKS I'd rather clean the loo than iron any day  :D
Bitterly cold and grey here with a wind building, we have snow forecast and going by the sky may well get some.
I've not much planned for today, some domestic chores and a bit of food prep and that's about it. Tonight we are replicating a dish a local hotel serves which we both like - half a toasted bun topped with a HM pork and leek burger, a Stornoway black pudding fritter/croquette, crispy bacon and a fried egg served with a carrot and apple salad in a mustardy dressing and straw potatoes on the side. I'll not make the straw potatoes as I don't have a spiraliser but will air fry some match stick ones instead. We are trying at the weekend to cook something a bit different just to stop the days from completely blending and help my son feel as though he's having a proper break from work.
Last night's fish goujons were disappointing, they had a lemon pepper crumb and it had, to me, an overpowering artificial sharp lemon taste which I didn't enjoy. My son tried one and thought they were okay so he can have the rest of the bag. I'll be sticking to posh fishfingers in the future and if I want lemon I'll squeeze some!

Your dinner sounds really nice Caronc 😋  I know what you mean about the artificial taste of some lemon favoured food, I've been known to say some stuff tastes like washing up liquid 🤢

Today didn't quite as planned 🙄 I meant to pick a new headset up from the office but got half way there and remembered I hadn't picked up my swipe card so wouldn't be able to get in.  At least I wasn't standing at the front door  :| the car need a drive and as I was close to the farm shop I checked and no queue so I popped in to stock upon their proper sausages and bacon, picked up a turkey drum stick for soup and treated myself to a local FR thick lamb chump chop.  I didn't need a lot of veg but did get some salad bits including English watercress, Jerusalem artichokes.

I needed some washing capsules so came home via M&S as their ones don't make me cough and picked up some good YS bargains (not planned but too cheap to miss) duck stir fry, hot smoked salmon and half cooked chicken all £1.25 each and now in the freezer, also plums labelled as red gages, raspberries and nectarines for the same price  :)

lunch was late and I had a large mug vegetable soup. As it was late I haven't wanted to eat a big dinner so I've just had a bowl of raspberries and Greek yogurt
