Good afternoon everyone,
Glad you liked the cheese Farway, though when it comes to alcohol I'd take a glass of cider over champagne any day lol!
F&C here for me too tonight, Tesco breaded chunky haddock and McCain oven chips in my case. I'm probably CFO as my son is making the most of lock down easing by heading to the local sand pits to fish. It will be catch and release as it is mainly perch which neither of us are keen on. He'll pick up a chippy for his dinner on the way home.
It's a scorcher here today my kitchen/conservatory is now absolutely roasting. Earlier before it got too hot I prepped a load of veg and browned some mince to make a chilli later as we fancy enchiladas for dinner tomorrow. For lunch my son made us some rather tasty sarnies- cos lettuce, prosciutto, brie and balsamic dressing and we shared a packet of crisps with it.
Yesterday I got my basket toms potted up and they seem quite happy so far. Later when if it gets a bit cooler outdoors I'll plant out my nasturtium seedlings into their final pots and then I'll need to wait a bit before doing anything else to my flower garden until the bedding plants have hardened off. Next week my challenge is to get the toms and cues into the greenhouse and do some fence painting.2 -
Yet more heat today, bit of cooling breeze and watered plants alreadyLast night's Morrie's breaded chunky cod was excellent, a reasonable substitute for chippy I thought. Kicking myself because I forgot to add pickled onions. At least they'll keepAfter breakfast it was early prepping dinner, I'd defrosted a L's rump steak overnight, so trimmed & bashed that, now marinading for dinnerThen cracked on making large dish of coleslaw, this time I had some T*sco white cabbage to do a "proper job". That's also in fridge maturing for dinnerLunch, use up last of the bread before fresh delivery via ND. More plastic cheese & HM pickle on toast I thinkDinner, as above, fried rump steak & salad, with some HM chipsEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens2

Good afternoon everyone,
It's another scorcher here today. I've been banished from the back garden while the 'kids' paint the fences and move heavy stuff about! It's amazing how much three young, fit adults can get done in a couple of hours.
Cheese salad sarnies for lunch and enchiladas, salad and HM wedges for dinner tonight.2 -
Hope the fence got finished Caronc
them young folk are useful to have around 😁
My usual Saturday trip into town this morning, I don't need enough veg to warrant a trip to the farmer shop so got enough bits in the farmers market and M&S I still find town a depressing place to be although there are more people than there were a few weeks ago. I did pick up a small piece of YS beef half price enough for three greedy portions or four normal ones they had several there I'm assuming as it's too hot to roast, I only brought one and put it in the freezer if this weather stays hot I can roast and have cold with salad. Smoked mackerel, salmon and Cheshire cheese also picked up YS. I've bread crumbs in the freezer plus leeks in the fridge so may make some Glamorgan sausages with the cheese. Otherwise today has been a little house work and some weeding in the front garden
Foodwise lunch and dinner have been almost the same prawn, smoked mackerel and egg salad for lunch I had it with half crusty baguette and added new potatoes instead of bread for dinnerLife shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage - Anais Nin1 -
Yes fences are indeed finished or at least the ones I wanted doing, they did well as it 30c+ out of the shade which the garden mainly is. There's lots of random bits shuffled to the end of the veg patch to go to the dump when it reopens so while lots of sweeping, furniture painting and pot rearranging needs doing my flower garden is looking much fresher and tidier. Next challenges are painting the garage and decking!
We had dinner outside and sat for a bit afterwards just chatting and enjoying the good weather. We had hoped to maybe see the rocket but the sky was too light apparently to see it this far North. We only came on when the midges decided we were fair game!!2 -
caronc said:We had hoped to maybe see the rocket but the sky was too light apparently to see it this far North.Too light down here to see it as well, I read it would've been low on the horizon anyway.I like the lighter evenings but it makes Space Station & satellite watching harderHot & sunny day ahead, again, after breakfast I watered the plants in preparation.Found my Bloody Butcher tomatoes have set fruit. Hoping soon to be self sufficient in them, especially now I not able to pick & choose my ownGood spot on the YS Brambling, I'm guessing there may be more YS about without so many shoppers aroundLunch will be BLT sarnie, unfortunately the B is a sub from my Morries C & C.I had ordered dry cure best, but was substituted dripping wet cure with added water for cheap weight at meat prices succulence and goes manky with white scum in the pan worst baconBeggars & choosers eh? Lesson learnt, no subs allowed on some thingsDinner, not sure, I've plenty of salad including HM coleslaw but fancy a change so maybe CBA MFO stab & ping?Eight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens2

I haven't really been cooking lately, just getting a meal from the canteen in work, day off today and planned a curry but so depressed with the news, about everyone breaking the lockdown rules, I don't want to venture out to shop so I'm not sure that will happenI am a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Wales, Small Biz MoneySaving, In My Home (includes DIY) MoneySaving, and Old style MoneySaving boards. Good afternoon everyone,
Locally most folk seemed to be sticking to the lock down easement that came in here on Friday. Apparently there was a few groups of young people dispersed on the beach but even those were fairly small groups.
It's another scorcher here today, there is no shade in my garden at all just now so I'm lurking in the house having a siesta until the sun goes over a bit. My son has headed to the shady sand pits to fish for a few hours in the relative cool. It to be a good bit cooler from tomorrow so I hope to get lots done outdoors next week. Hard to believe a week ago I was wearing a jumper and put the heating on!!!
Shame about the bacon Farway, like you there are some things I'd rather do without than have subbed. Brunch was a rather nice bacon and tattie scone roll made with streaky from the butchers. It's too hot to cook much so dinner tonight is going to be AF chicken thighs with steamed Ayrshire tatties, green beans and carrots.2 -
The subbed lunchtime bacon was as expected, shrunk to Frazzles size when cooked
tasted OK though
Dinner decided, sort of Ploughman's with the tasty posh T*sco cheese & HM colesaw, plus I've got some Gregg's sausage rolls from Iceland delivery in the freezer, not tried them so today seems a good day to do soIt's baking outside, all watering completed, hopefully it'll be a tad cooler by the time I need the oven for the sausage rollsEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens2 -
I had a requirement to go out today .... and I've a little nifty spot I've discovered that, while busy, isn't well known. There's free parking there and a high up, wide panoramic water view (probably 1 mile away as the crow flies). I first found it as a spot to "disappear to" where I could also relieve myself of my general rubbish and recycling by simply pulling up and parking alongside the bins.
There is a "takeaway kiosk", but every time I've been in the past the frontage has been awash with large taxi drivers and leather jacketed bikers, there's also a smattering of old fellas that turn up driving old yankee cars. They all then stand around, knowing each other, gossiping all day long as an assortment of their "mates" come and go. It's too intimidating for me to push my way through those to read the small menu at the kiosk window... but today, without that gaggle, I could
This kiosk has no website, no facebook, so what it sells is a mystery.... but today I managed to get close enough to peek at the menu... and they do hotdogs with/without onions for £2.50 and cheeseburgers with/without onions for £2.20. Well, I was up for that! I waited until there were few people about and dashed over there and ordered a cheeseburger, with onions and ketchup. It was gloriousIt's probably a 2oz burger, but it hit the spot, as did the price point. So often these days one's served only hand reared hand ground beefburgers with organic cheese in a sourdough bread roll with organic hand crafted ketchup for £5, so I've been without a "cheap burger" for years!
Before that I'd gone to Mr T. Picked up a 24-case of fizzy pop, a loaf, a pack of flatbreads, a jar of strawberry jam, a cucumber, SIX pots of paste, 2x6 packs of Doritos and 2 bars of chocolate.
Today I've scoffed: A noodle pot, some fruit pastilles, cheeseburger, 4 squares of chocolate, pack of Doritos.
I'm still loving paste/cucumber sandwiches, with jam sandwiches for a dessert/treat.2
