Cooking for one (Mark Three)

Hello all
Sorry not been here, health reasons mainly. Not virus related. I trust and hope all are well. I don't have the energy at the moment to read back any posts, sorry.
Today I had a lovely beefy broth, but with a small twist: I boiled two small potatoes first in a pot, then chopped them up into small sugar cube size bits (without being particular, it was mainly 'make them small chunks') and two large tablespoons of frozen peas and baby carrots were also warmed through once the potato's had had 5 minutes on their own. At this stage they were 'almost' so they then were transferred into the other pan which had a tin of H's Beef Broth in it which I then gently heated. The extra veggie bits made it much worthwhile I thought as when I've tried this with just soups previously you do need to give the extras some cooking or heating on their own first otherwise they are not quite done well enough before the soups burn! For a small amusement here is a pic of sadly (or gladly depending on which you like or not) meat paste flavours! For me, there are two I'd love to try and three I'd hate but I'll not say which

PN JO doesn't have kitchen fairies just commis chefs and no TV chefs shows the 'real deal', but I enjoy watching them and they're good for ideas. I know what I'm doing well enough to know which recipes are going to be easy to reproduce and those which will work out far too complicated 🙂.
Tulips look lovely Farway, mine are a little behind yours and haven't opened yet, I'm hoping they will if tomorrow is as nice as today 🌷🌷. To answer your question yes golden syrup can still crystallise especially if it's as old as this was, I'm not sure if you can still buy it in tins 😯
Glad to see you back Andy I hope you're recovering 🙂
i combined my walk with trying to pick up my prescription and getting a couple of bits in town. It seems my preventative inhalers aren't available at the moment and aren't expected anytime soon so I'll have to call the surgery Monday for an alternative. I picked up some more of the really nice mince from the butcher in the market and some meat for my sister, there was no queue at M&S so I went in for potatoes and I fancied roast chicken (thanks Nelski) i was led astray with some really good YS offers which I picked up for myself and my sister (I can be a nice sister 🙂) including English asparagus 30p rather than £3 those are mine 🤤, half price fish, 80p goat cheese etc. I regretted being nice when I was carrying it back to hers. I deposited her shopping in the porch and we chatted for an hour her indoors me out, it was lovely and warm
I fell asleep after lunch watching catchup tv and was woken by a call from my big sister checking up on me 😁 they have both been locked down for a month, age and health reasons as well as my BIL has a permanent tracheostomy and can't take any risks as a simple cold hits him hard
i had LO bolognese for lunch the last portion went in the freezer. Dinner was some YS 'lightly dusted' plaice fillets with broccoli, French beans and new potatoes the second fillet went in the freezer. I brought a small chicken so that will be roasted tomorrow with a selection of veg I may make a cauliflower curry as I picked one up for 30p today 🙂

I'd need an ambulance if I slid a small pot costing £1 into my basket
Of those five flavours ... I'd like to try Fish/Chips, Baked Beans, Sausage/Tomato, Chicken Tikka... not the Smoky Bacon (shouldn't that be Smokey Bacon?) as I'm not a bacon fan. I'd give it a go if it were, say, 20p in an out of date food place though because I'm a nasty, cheap, peasant
These must be fake... can't find them on the Princes website.
EDIT: Ah, found them... but not on their website. Launched in 2012, they probably died a death and I didn't even know about them.

Launched in 2012, they probably died a death and I didn't even know about them.Welcome back AndyThink the only one I'd skip would be Tikka, I can imagine it being too spicy for me, however if the quid a pop as PN says I can see why they failed as the real things can be bought for around a quid or less, not best quality or belly busting sizes admittedlyA very sunny day forecast, breakfast porridge scoffed, I'm really not keen on the T*sco stuff but as a self isolating beggar I'm really not in a position to be a chooserI may switch to cornflakes or Weetabix look alike once the porridge runs out, anyone tried T*sco cornflakes or WLAs?The rump steak defrosted overnight, trimmed, bashed and now marinading for dinnerLunch will be a salady sarnieDinner, fried RS above, with HM AF chips & salad. I may make some grated carrot & pea & mayo coleslaw mix thing, has to be store cupboard stuff as popping out is not going to happenBit of garden potting on today, tomatoes & peas mainly, plus peer at my rhubarb & gooseberries and wish they would get a move on for a fresh crumble

Decided to ditch the roast for today based on the forecast of hot day ....mmm how wrong they were nice thick cloud right now
Last nights fajitas were lovely so lunch will be a usual revamp of the left overs and the replacement dinner for the anticipated heatwave is caesar salad. Brambling you made me, yes made me add some plaice to my shop next week that sounded absolutely gorgeous and now I also need rump steak after reading Farway, may not get them of course they may well substitute with some washing up liquid and a can of WD40 we shall see.

I had a lovely walk outside as the weather is gorgeous. I easily managed to avoid people as I walked.
I just had baked beans and spinach on toast and then a slice of cold pizza for breakfast.4 -
Good morning everyone,
Lovely flowers Farway, thanks for sharing I'm trying not to be too jealous of your gardening!
Yesterday evening's virtual family curry night and quiz was excellent fun, I may just have had a tad too much wine as I was slightly fuzzy-headed when I got up nothing a shower and a cuppa didn't shift. It does seem to have sent the donkey packing though;) .
Warm but grey and very windy here this morning, it's to get to gale force this afternoon so I doubt I'll get much done outdoors. I'm cooking for us tonight - roast chicken legs boned and stuffed with haggis, baby roasted spuds & carrots, mushroom sauce and steamed sprouts. Brunch will be bacon and eggs, the curry all got eaten so no cold curry LOs for breakfast I had a banana instead!

Good morning all,
Hello Nels, nice to see you here. I cheat by posting here some of the time when I'm really cooking for two. It's just that most of the time the HT and I eat very different things.
Today was CF1 x 2 breakfasts - he had croissants and I had a crumpet. Lunch will be a cheese and ham toastie for him and dry fried egg on toast for me and our evening meal as it is most Sundays will be a roast chicken dinner. It's my once a week chance to get recognisable veg into the HT. He likes mashed carrots.
I'm going to make macaroni cheese this afternoon then portion it up and freeze it for the HT - it's his current favourite. I may make some scones too but I may leave those until tomorrow.
Stay safe and take care al of you4
