I've had the account open a few days, ordered the card reader and used an existing one with the card they supplied. Transferred the full 1500 in and out, but it's not been received back yet, so suspect I have a security block too - though I've not been sent a text or email. honestly, this is ridiculous, never had an issue like this anywhere before.

OK, just had an email saying they've been trying to contact me and they've flagged it up as fraudulent and blocked my internet banking too, lovely....

I also failed security on the phone so now have to go into branch with photo ID and proof of address.....

I requested a switch for the 2nd Feb on the 15th Jan. Jsut checked the confirmation e-mail and it says 'we will contact you again when we start the switch 7 days before the switch date'. Heard nothing since 15th Jan... Have people who've had a sucessful switch been contacted 7 days before?

    Yes

    My switch completed on 22nd.

I had text message on 16th - 'Thanks for switching to us, we're working with your old bank......'

Another on 18th ' Your switch is progressing...' and one on 22nd 'Good news your switch is complete...'

They were in addition to several others regarding debit card, PIN, activation code etc etc, not to mention multiple emails, and several letters.

    I'm not complaining though:p

Ah ha, now everything except the activation code so decided to chance my arm and attempt to login.

I don't quite get how those switcher terms work. Even if you opened your account after the date specified under '(a)', you still would technically meet the criteria under (b) if you switched before the end date.

Anyway, I need to renew my passport to open this - but at least it should cover it and a bit more.

One moment....There will be many who do not drive or have a valid passport. So ask NW how can such people open an account ?

How did you manage to log on without your activation code?

With customer number, sort & account number, Debit card and the 3 digit security number.

Well the activation code arrived today after I had already been into the NatWest site.
I think it is just a different way to set up online banking.
I intended to phone them to ask that very question but I had noted down their opening hours incorrectly for Sat- I was 20 mins too late!
I am wondering if using the activation code rather than debit card allows you to move money?

Why would this indicate a security failure? The card reader only generates a valid security code with the correct debit card and a valid PIN.
Because NatWest's OLB system is set up to not allow card readers to be enabled/activated until two to three days after one has been ordered. This is apparently for 'security' reasons.

If that usual system imposed delay hasn't been applied then it is out of the normal and I'd want to know why.

...just to be on the safe side.

By using one of the other documents that are considered acceptable?

Even if they don't have one already, most people should be able to get an item of HMRC correspondence sent to them.

I have none of those (until I get my passport renewed), and I'm not sure exactly how I'd go about getting HMRC to send me a letter regarding tax without them having a particular reason to do so.

Okay, thanks, but where is it stated that NatWest's OLB system is set up to not allow card readers to be enabled/activated until two to three days after one has been ordered?
