I just tried my own advice and it didn't work. When I try to setup a new payee it wants me to order a card reader!
NatWest generally update their files overnight at about 2:00 AM so you will probably be fine to use an existing card reader after 3:00 AM tomorrow morning.
  • Advice please. New to switching and want to keep my nationwide account, but I also have a Halifax account that I don’t use very often. Can I switch this, and then just transfer £1000 from my savings in and out to get the incentive?

Yes you can switch the Halifax current account. But note that to get the incentive that the account needs to be funded with £1500.
  • Thank you, another quick question does the £1500 have to be paid in one, or can I pay in £1000 draw out £500 and pay that back in a day later?

The terms do not state that it all has to be paid in one go. They state that the £1500 must have been deposited before 16 March. Link here to terms:

Mine (N Wide) appeared to take a couple of days to be useable from ordering Nat West's..

I've done a test payment into my NatWest account, and a test payment back out. On my transaction list, it says 'CALL REF 0620' for my transaction out, but it has gone through. What does that mean?
I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?

I've done a test payment into my NatWest account, and a test payment back out. On my transaction list, it says 'CALL REF 0620' for my transaction out, but it has gone through. What does that mean?

Why does my statement show CALL REF.NO.?
If you make a payment or transfer using Online Banking or Telephone Banking a unique CALL REF.NO.XXXX is assigned to all the transactions made during that session.
When an Online Banking or Telephone Banking transaction is initially debited from your account the call reference number will show as the transaction description on your statement. Once our systems complete processing of the transaction a full description will be displayed on your statement as well as the call reference number. The full description for these transactions is normally available by the next working day.
You may notice some call ref numbers showing as 0000, the CALL REF.NO.0000 is a Transfer/Payment made using our Mobile Banking app.

Don't want to jinx thing, but mine's going really easily. Applied for account Monday and was able to register for online banking immediately, though no account shown. Logged in Wednesday and ordered card reader. Debit card received yesterday, card PIN today. Have activated card reader using a Nationwide card reader. Just waiting for switch to be completed by 31 Jan (from an account already containing £1500, so that should be another tick).

    Very easy, thanks NatWest.
