I made some refried beans today, and couldn't decide quite what I wanted to do with them, so ended up just dolloping some on my plate and having them with salad.0

Was going to do the (delicious) Heidi Swanson roasted tomato salad for me but having a small chicken to use up have decided instead to do Chicken with Mustard (Poulet À La Moutarde) by David Lebovitz Pg. 169. Think mustard, bacon, white white, creme fraiche, thyme. Will be serving with linguine.
Suki1964 love the idea of bartering fresh food but no chance here in London.
Oh I don't know Mr S, I was a Londoner most my life and maybe it weren't free, we swapped food with neighbours all the time
Elaine next door made a mean goat curry, her daughter loved my lasagne and baking. Lynn across the road was very much into healing and oils and took my lavender and rose leaves for a manicure or eyebrow pluck
Just a question of knowing and not being afraid of asking really
Im the same island Maid, there would be no such thing as a pea aubergine here. If Im really lucky Sainsburys will have such exotics as lemon grass and I might get dried curry leaves in a small tub for a fortune
I have to wait till I hit Ayr or London and stock up. Ayr isn't easy either but a lot better then here and I ask friends who work in Europe to get items for me. My style of cooking has had to change and I do have to use the odd jar or sachet to get the flavour Im aiming for
I used to live in Tooting, Gateway to the south, and what you couldn't buy there. No end of exotic ingredients with it having a huge West Indian,Jamacan , Pakistani and Indian Community living side by side. I miss that so much but took it all for granted at the time0 -
We had stuffed marrow tonight. Well, over sized courgette. Used some suma veggie sausage mix which I added extra flavour to with onion and garlic power and some dried herbs. Delicious with a big blob of brown sauce by the side!Vintage loving, allotment holding, low waste living. Indi = DH. Maisie Bones = fur baby
Credit Card paid off = 02/04/2018
Bank of Mum loan = £450
Now saving for a house deposit!0 -
Sausage beans and mash tonight - good old comfort food, might add a bit of salad too, 'speed food' not that I'm doing SW now but that habit has stuck0

Fish, chips and beans tonight I think while relaxing with OH. we've just had a big ongoing house project completed and I hadn't realised until now just how much it's been hanging over me / us for over a year. I feel like a big foggy curtain has been lifted but I'm also shattered and could sleep for a week.Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

I left my veggie chilli in the fridge today. So I'll have coffee for breakfast at work (boooo), porridge oats for lunch and have the chilli for supper, with some homegrown green beans. And maybe some tinned fruit for afters if I'm feeling luxuuuuurious.0

Life and meals is all a bit random at the moment, this time next week I'll hopefully be standing in my new kitchen but my home won't be arriving until the next day!
Beans on toast for lunch today and a pie, roast potatoes, peas and gravy (freezer emptying) for supper.
Going to be some interesting days as we find what's left in the freezer...0 -
