Shoved a bolognese in the slow cooker first thing this morning and got home to a kitchen that smelt amazing. However, it tasted nowhere near as nice as the smell suggested, bordering on properly bland. Ah well, you win some, you lose some. The kids had pasta with their bolognese and I had mine with courgetti. And there's another two portions left, so it'll be the same for tomorrow night's tea as well.0

I had this idea, a long baking Swiss roll tin, line it with baking parchment, which i wet slightly ring it out and it's easy to shape into the tin. Beat up six eggs, pour into the parchment on the tin, put in oven. Fry some mushrooms, mix with a bag of spinach and some grated cheese. Then what was supposed to happen was this would go on top of the egg mixture, cook a little more and I would roll it up and cut slices.High protein, no carb.
I opened the oven door to take the egg mixture out to do the aforementioned topping and the tin had bent up in opposite corners, perhaps due to the heat?So there were big thick bits and patches with no egg at all. I still managed to top it and roll it of sorts, but it did not turn out like the picture in my head.
Husband had liver and bacon casserole, with mash, cabbage and green beans.
He has the above concoction in his lunchbox tomorrow.0 -
CJ what did you end up with? Everyone loves a surprise
JIL - I low carb too, and think of these amazing ideas - I stick with crustless quiche/frittata now too many wasted eggs otherwise :rotfl:
Tonight is Butter Chicken curry, rice for men, on its own for me - leftovers for lunch tomorrow :TNote to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!

Hello again, back from jaunting round the continent and happy to be home again!
Our supper tonight will be pork steaks in the Foreman grill with griddled asparagus and a roasted Mediterranean veg salad (found a couple of YS packs in the Co-Op yesterday) flavoured with Italian herbs, fennel seeds and garlic. We have a bed full of ripe strawberries in the garden so I will make us a summer pudding for dessert for the next few days too. Cup of black coffee to finish with.0 -
The pie turned out to be a minced beef and vegetable one, and very delicious it was too. We'll be finishing off the second half of it for tonight's supper.
Mrs LW, do you use your Foreman grill often? I frequently see them for sale in charity shops and have been tempted to get one but then I think it will just be another appliance for which to find space.
But if people here rave about them (please post your reviews!) I might easily be persuaded .......0 -
It's a good bit of kit is the Foreman, we use it for salmon, chicken, gammon, veg (asparagus is particularly yummy) and have even done toasted sandwiches in it successfully. I like it because of the amount of run off fats and oils that collect in the little container beneath the grill plates, I think it's a healthy way of producing a nice meal. Mine lives out on the work surface in full view so I remember it's there to use (DD's does too) I think it was a worthwhile investment.0

For a fiver it's worth a try - worst case you can always car boot it or give it back to charity if you don't use it.
OH is having some LO macaroni cheese tonight I think, I'm channelling CJ and having some kind of casserole thing that I found in the freezer (it might be oxtail, or perhaps lamb, or beef and Guinness - or none of the above) with some LO beans and Jersey Royals.Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16
