@goldfinches - you're mentioned in the dispatches!!
I'm tracking back on this as I don't remember this picture….
meanwhile - tonight it's munchen weisswurst and I'm making some potato salad to have with. leftover new potatoes from Sunday dinner with a bit of chopped shallot and schnittloch/chives (keeping my finger well out of the way this time) and some yoghurt mayo dressing.

Made a shepherds pie (plus one for the freezer). Had one for tea with peas and gravy.

pasta with meatballs in tomato sauce tonight.
OH got a haunch of venison from the market yesterday which he proposes smoking and serving with roasties. Likely tomorrow evening. There's also sliced ham in the fridge which may be sandwiches with either soup or salad on Sunday.

goodness me! you'd think no one had eaten in the last 10+ days!!!
Sunday OH finally cooked the leg of lamb bought for Easter. He used his new smoker and it turned out perfectly. Also meant that the kitchen didn't get heated up (much). Cornish new potatoes and green beans with it. The lamb was studded with garlic cloves and about 20 kilos (ok maybe not quite) of fresh rosemary on top. Our rosemary bush is so out of control I can't even see where he cut everything off!!
Lots of leftovers so I sliced up the remaining lamb and put in a foil packet and added it to the old Weber propane bbq (cool kitchen!!). Made some tzatziki with yoghurt, cuke, black olives, lemon juice and salt and pepper. Lettuce and tomatoes and pitas on the side. Both nights sitting out looking at the garden and watching the swallows.
It's true that the bbq is well past it's sell by date - likely had it for about 12 years so also out of warranty but it looks like the burners are shot. I'll offer it on freegle in case anyone can fix it and will look to get a new one later in the summer when the discounts on bbqs kick in.
Tonight we've got tomatoes, buffalo mozzarella, avocado, basil, lettuce and a sourdough loaf (our Tesco has stopped doing ciabatta). We'll dine al fresco again as it's in the shade and there's a good breeze here. There may be some wine for me and pernod for him.

I made the crazy decision to cook today, in this great heat, but the method in my madness is that I will not have to cook in tomorrows even-hotter furnace. Plus I made some cherry ice cream, so all is good. For tonights meal - made a veggie tray bake last night, added garlic and had some sweet chilli sauce to drizzle. Made a double batch of (veggie) toad in the hole, one for tomorow (throw it in air fryer, all is good), and one in freezer. Made some veggie/cheesy frittata, some for breakfast, some for freezer.

Salad tonight - leaves, radishes and tomatoes - with hard boiled eggs and hummus.

I took cooked rice and mixed it with chopped peppers, sweetcorn, peas and diced onions. I stirred this in a hot pan with melted butter. In a separate pan, I flash fried some raw prawns and sprinkled on some finely grated garlic. I mixed the prawns in with the rice and served it with a generous drizzle of sweet chilli sauce over the top.

OH did the most glorious and simple dinner last evening. He's got a smoker and put in a nice (& expensive!!) rack of lamb to cook and said it would take at least an hour, maybe longer. I was concerned that it would be completely overdone - particularly as I like lamb on the pink side at a maximum. Well he was right and it was lovely - he took the outer bits which were more cooked and the inner bits that I had were lovely, pink and moist. There was a bag of new potatoes but he decided not to use them and we just had tender stem broccoli with it. Marvellous!!!
Tonight will be the leftovers of the chinese takeaway we had on Saturday. Easy to pop in the microwave so no hot cooking on a hot hot day!!!

It's great being able to cook outside isn't it? I have an outdoor pizza oven/airfryer thing that I bought from ebay. It does fantastic pizza in 5 mins and it doesn't heat the whole kitchen up.
So that's what we had yesterday, pizza and salad. It's still out (the airfryer) so a chicken that was going to be yesterday's roast dinner is going in it today, to be eaten with the leftover salad.

Tea today was cod baked in tinfoil, squeeze of lemon juice and leaving the lemon pieces in with the cod. Added some freshly chopped mushrooms added, and a handful of sweetcorn from the freezer. A scoop of butter and the parcel was sealed and baked in the oven for about 20 minutes. I served this with some broccoli and some mashed potato and I used the buttery fishy lemony juices in the tinfoil to drizzle over the mashed potato.
