I had storecupboard tomato and bean sauce with pasta so am feeling quite virtuous and am going to have more chilled strawberries for pudding.
@Brie - what did your OH do in the end? I guessed maybe a taxi to the fishmonger or alternatively a deep dive into the freezer, am I even warm?2 -

stone cold I'm afraid!! He sat with his feet up and I went shopping after work. I only work 2 hours on some days so left just after 4 and was home by 5:30 after shopping. Tasco had no seafood mix so I got just frozen prawns and OH did a very nice risotto. Even frozen prawns cook quite quickly so not a problem.
Tonight we'll be having some nice steaks he got from our meat guy (rib eye for him, rump for me) but we have no chips or potatoes to go with so I'll have to go to the shop yet again. In truth one of us goes most days. I'm planning on doing a tomato mozzarella salad too, already have the toms and rocket and shallots so it's just the cheese that's needed. We can sit out having that before putting the other stuff on to cook. In my opinion a steak should merely be waved at the bbq but him indoors likes his to actually cook a bit. @Brie - should think the prawns are really fresh cooked straight from frozen like that and suspect that shopping daily maximises freshness and minimises waste too.
I used to do summer work at a country pub during my university vacations and all the local farmers insisted on what they called "blue" steaks which had been put into the pan or under the grill for just enough time to turn the exposed veins purplish blue and warm the meat through so you're in good company there."She could squeeze a nickel until the buffalo pooped."

We went to M&S just before closing and did well with some yellow-stickered ingredients*. I made a stir fry of small amounts of onion, sweet pepper, broccoli, cauliflower, courgette, mushrooms, baby corn on the cob*, bean sprouts*, minted three bean salad*, and cooked chicken*.
We had a banana* each for pudding.

Although I use SC every day for my porridge I do not do "meals" in it too often, not enough freezer space for casseroles, chilli etc so use the AF, but today have put 2 bone it chicken portions in, 1 for today, the other to shred for another day, some carrot n swede from freezer, celery from freezer (trying to use up) couple of just need using up baby potatoes and chicken granuals, seasoning. Chopped up remaining potatoes and boiled in micro so they are available for potato salad plus freezer. Placed a Morrisons order which comes on Tuesday so trying to make some freezer space.

I'm also on the use it up and make space in the fridge/freezer bandwagon partly because I'm feeling guilty about having bust my grocery budget this month.
I got out a stale baguette that I froze in February and made croutons from half of it and then fried up some garlic, onion and courgette to make an omelette with a couple of eggs and the end of some goat's cheese. I'll have the rest of it cold for lunch tomorrow."She could squeeze a nickel until the buffalo pooped."
