Yesterday's plan went awry due to rain starting while I was cycling home so I had Dr Rupy's emergency dhal with an added tin of spinach (ingredients spinach and water and very nice, better than frozen I think) and a fenugreek roti plus roast cauliflower which was yummy.
Tonight was another portion of dhal with fried cubes of extra firm tofu and more cauliflower.
Here's how the cauliflower came out, I used 4 teaspoons of olive oil following my new regime of halving the amount of oil and it was plenty and then half a teaspoon of sweet smoked paprika and a good grind of Maldon salt.
@C_J - I can really recommend automatically halving the amount of olive oil in any recipe you're making, I've been doing that for the last few days in salad dressing and cooking onions etc. and haven't noticed any difference to the end results yet. There's an article here if you want explanations.4 -
@goldfinches - I do tend to ration olive oil, but thank you for that link - I will definitely try harder! I haven’t bought any for a while, and it has doubled in price since the last bottle I bought, hence the shock to the system!

I meant to say I baked these chocolate oat biscuits and veganised the recipe for my Wednesday walking group which was a rather wet excursion this afternoon. I had a lot of fun painting the chocolate on and could see that keeping a child quiet for half an hour or so.

Had to rub my eyes in Aldi when olive oil was 5.99 from 2.99 😫 I used to buy in 5 litre cartons from a Greek producer but that has skyrocketed too at over 55 from 30 🫣
have a few packs of minced beef in the freezer, so will make Mongolian minced beef with ginger, garlic, spring onions - over rice for him, bean sprouts for meNote to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!

Meanwhile at Chez Brie someone has bought pasties and plans on having beans with them. I've agreed even though I'm not found of beans with dinners like this and especially as they're sugar reduced beans which means they've got sweeteners in them instead.
And today at the foodbank there was another excess of bread so I brough home 2 loaves. One a crusty white and the other appears to be one with olives and tomatoes in it. And then just as I was leaving I was asked if I could clear the fridge of the left overs from Wednesday night (community supper). I said no to the shepherds pie (rather regretting that now) but did grudginly agree to take 3 pieces of homemade cheesecake. I've some straw&raspberries in the fridge here so they'll top that off nicely.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. fish and chips for tonight. with mushies. OH will have a buttered roll and potentially make a chip butty as well.
He's also bought a gammon roast from our meat guy and suggested that's for Sunday. I snuck off to Lidl to get my 10% off worth and bought some lamb leg steaks, pita and dips so if it's sunny enough maybe we'll sit out and have that instead.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards.
