I have no idea how old the lentils in my jar in the cupboard are.
I did a vegetarian course a few years ago and we used 2 years past bb date lentils and they just needed a longer boil.
I have made scotch eggs using a very dry dahl and wrapped around hard boiled eggs.
They go very well with eggs imo.
Tonight we had pies, a chicken and mushroom pie using chicken tonight and additional mushrooms.
I used the rest of the pastry and made potato, chive and cheese pasties.
With mushy peas, tender stem broccoli, carrots and green beans.

@number_23 another vote for Dahl here, I also use ‘em in curry, soups (bacon and lentil or pepper and lentil are lush) use to bulk out anything with mince, Spag Bol, chilli, cottage etc ditto grind em up and use as a thickener for casseroles and stews etcNote to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!

Did some chicken breasts with Nando’s marinade. Then some spicy potatoes and salad. My daughter had sweet potatoes instead of normal as she prefers them:money::rotfl::T4

Ooh, I like the sound of potato, cheese and chive pasties @JIL. I shall pinch that idea and put it onto my 'Inexpensive Meal Suggestions' spreadsheet
As part of the monthly meat meal deal I get from the butchers, we have a couple of beefburgers to use up. They are very tasty, but I'm just not a big fan of burgers so I am considering chopping them up to incorporate into a pasta bake or something similar for tonight. Suggestions warmly welcomed!2 -

It should work in pasta.
Roll into meatballs or cut bits off and put them in muffin tins and top with Yorkshire pudding mix.
Tonight I'm going to have a mix of stuff that needs using up.
Husband is making thai curry for himself and others.5 -

I was also going to suggest rerolling the burgers into meatballs, or mixing some spices in and forming them around skewers to grill and eat in pittas, yum.
Still trying to not shop and eat from the pantry/freezer - we had either sausages, quorn sausages or southern fried chicken bites depending on the person, with the last of the Easter 19p potatoes made into wedges, fridge gravel courgette/carrots and Japanese curry sauce, delicious.Books read 2023 - 49/756 -
Good morning everyone

Some of you may notice I’ve been on and off with my posting on here. I said I’ve not been very well, which is true to a point. I was suffering sickness and nausea because…
I am pregnant!
we had the scan yesterday and I am due 28th October
we are so delighted, especially as I had a miscarriage earlier this year and have been trying since June. It’s so exciting and my daughter cannot wait to be a big sister
but back to the thread
