Date night!!! Well not really....but we're going out to meet some friends at a local establishment none of us have been to before. Lots of people recommend it and when we tried to book earlier this week the earliest table was at 8:30. Given that would mean 9 or later before we were eating it seemed a tad late. Then I noticed that there is a "dog friendly" area and that had much more availability. As I understand it it means eating in the pub section rather than the dining room but none of us will mind that.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. Chip shop fish & chips with tinned mushy peas & curry sauce from a packet.
£22 for 2 portions of fish & chips, and that’s the “cheap” chippy.
I think this will be a very rare treat going forward (I don’t like homemade versions of battered fish, they just don’t taste the same!)“I want to be a glow worm, A glow worm's never glum'Coz how can you be grumpy, when the sun shines out your bum?" ~ Dr A. number_23 said:I’m new to the forum and have joined a couple of challenges. I spend way too much on groceries so… tonight I’m using what I already have in; chorizo pasta with a garlic baguette for us all to share 😀
last night I was sooo tired. We’d been out enjoying the sunshine all day. My daughter and husband just had freezer dinners nuggets, chips and sweet corn. I had some leftover coleslaw and a pasty as I wasn’t very hungry
tonight though - beef joint, yorkies, potatoes, sweet potatoes for my daughter, carrots, broccoli, peas, gravy. I’ll have horseradish with mine.:money::rotfl::T9 -
Enjoyed our dinner out last night - I had a forestiere chicken breast (served on a bed of spinach, in a mushroom cream sauce topped with cheese and served with chips). OH had what he declared "the best fish and chips in I don't know how long". Friends had pork belly with chive mash and apple sorbet & a lovely looking pepperoni pizza. I would have happily swapped with any of them or had a couple of other items on the menu so I suspect we may go back at some point. Nice that the place was literally a 5 minute drive (which I explained to OH a few times but he insisted we go 30 minutes early so we wouldn't be late). I had a latte and mini creme brulee for afters and OH had a massive merangue pavlova with berries and violet flowers.
Tonight we'll be mostly having the cassoulet OH prepped yesterday - he's got the beans, sausages, pork belly all done and just needs to add the confit. I suspect we will have it LO for tomorrow and possibly I'll finish it off on Tuesday or Wednesday.

That sounds like a delicious dinner, Brie!Tonight I’m doing roast lamb (a large and lovely boneless rolled joint from the butcher), roast potatoes, carrots, cabbage, swede mash and gravy with a lemon cheesecake for pud.I have many plans for the leftover lamb, which will get minced and added to (a) a lamb pilaff, (b) lamb, rice and veg stuffed portobello mushrooms, (c) lamb, rice and veg stuffed red peppers and hopefully also (d) a lamb, mushroom and potato puff pastry pie. The roast mushrooms and peppers will only need a tablespoon or so each of minced lamb, so hopefully I can eke it out if I’m careful 😂6

OH made a roast chicken & the trimmings on Friday so I made stock with the carcass and gravy-flavouring roasted veg left (we put onions & carrots under the chicken when roasting for extra flavour) & today I made Chinese chicken & sweetcorn soup and chow mein with the stock & leftover chicken. We’ll have that for tea with freezer popcorn chicken & a jar of mayflower sweet & sour sauce. And I have enough stock left to make matzoball soup next week.“I want to be a glow worm, A glow worm's never glum'Coz how can you be grumpy, when the sun shines out your bum?" ~ Dr A. We were planning to eat out this afternoon but after a brief look in the fridge this morning, I realised we had lots of bits and bobs that needed eating - very MSE! Three of us ended up sharing two chicken fajitas (l/o from Friday night), a bag of Caesar salad with extra cucumber and olives, and a couple of jacket potatoes. Eldest valiantly had a leftover torpedo roll with a hot dog.Leftover birthday cake for pudding later 😋Books read 2023 - 49/754
