Huge dish of roasted veg, onions, peppers, aubergine, courgette, baby tomatoes, sweet potatoes, leftover roast pots from sunday, mushroom, leftover olives. Served with:
I had a tuna steak, daughter had salmon and husband had chicken.
Enough roast veg to stir through pasta on Thursday.4 -
We went out out last night (well out-ish - I was driving) to a posh restaurant. It was very nice (menu not quite as nice as last year but still delicious). Definitely a treat for us. Back to freezer foraging tonight.Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

Mister CJ offered to book a posh restaurant for dinner last night, but I am really averse to eating out on Valentine's Day. I always feel places are so crowded as they often shoehorn-in extra tables to maximise profits, and you don't always get great service or value for money. Maybe I am just old and grumpy
Instead I just made us a nice meal at home - seabass with a potato and celeriac dauphinoise, followed by a home made banana cheesecake. Lots of the ingredients were from the community fridge, so v frugal as well as tasty.
Tonight I am making a minced beef and mushroom puff pastry pie, served with cabbage and carrots and lashings of gravy. I have some apples which are starting to look a bit wrinkly so will stew them to have with a bit of custard for pud.5 -
@C_J we don't really 'do' Valentine's per-se but we knew where we were going it would be impeccable service regardless of the day (they're usually closed Mon / Tues) and although they arrange the tables slightly differently (as there's fewer groups dining out) they don't add in any extra's or make it feel crowded - it just wouldn't be done there and would potentially damage the business. It was lovely for a treat - although as I was unorgansied booking, we didn't get a table until 8.30pm, so felt a bit strange sitting down for our starter as people were having dessert.
Your dinner sounds lovely and frugal as a bonus.Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

Meals are sounding lovely and hope those that went out had a fab night 🥰
I’m using up the rest of the chorizo in a chicken, pepper and chorizo stew thing, loads of smoked paprika, garlic etc served with cous cous and some garlic bread that DS bought as part of a meal deal and forgot about - I’ll have the stew by itselfNote to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!

We ended up going out for a delicious curry last night (with the kids in tow!), our local does a ‘Gourmet Night’ set meal on Tuesdays anyway, and it’s good value for a meal out.
Today I have got extra kids in the house due to it being half term, they’re all having fish, chips and peas from the freezer for dinner. I’ll make something for DH and I when he gets home - possibly chicken Kiev with spring greens to mop up the garlic butter 😋Books read 2023 - 49/754 -
Evening all a busy few days here
tonight I defrosted some chicken that I got for 90p from Lidl a few weeks ago
I did it with the mayflower curry powder. It makes such a lovely sauce. I added in peas, peppers and onions and served it with rice. All in all a good meal for less than £2.50 for 2 adults and a child:money::rotfl::T4 -
Bit of a rush tonight.
Quickly defrosted a beef casserole and topped it with pastry, daughter and I had leftover roasted veg on pastry, topped with feta.
Served with kale, broccoli and peas.

I have some ready rolled puff pastry left over from yesterday’s pie, a red onion, some cream cheese, and some tomatoes which need using up so will make a tomato tart to have with salad. This wasn’t on the menu plan for today, but I don’t want the bits to go to waste 😀5
