Went to Church then volunteer drivers ferried in guests for Christmas dinner. Drivers took dinners to those unable/chose not to come. Dinners were cooked for the homeless shelter and some of the rough sleepers came for their dinner - in all 140 meals were prepared in a small kitchen.
There was entertainment and quizzes and we watched the King's Speech.
Drivers returned to ferry guests home - everyone went away with a goodie bag of treats.
We were out from 9.30 to 5.30 and came home tired.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

Hats off to you @Florenceem I've no doubt all your efforts were greatly appreciated.Relatively relaxed xmas dinner here with only minor feelings of 'no no don't worry, I'll manage in here myself' simultaneously coupled with 'omg will everyone get out of the kitchen and give me space' 🤣🤣
Seriously though, a lovely day, everyone well fed, two batches of roast potatoes, carrots and pigs in blankets cooked so plenty of left overs. Nearly lost the mash in the back of the oven 🙈
Only disappointment was the plant based stuffing balls i bought for OH 🤮 grim, the rest have gone in the compost caddy, they are unredeemable. And the frozen parsnips from Lidl were ok but a bit large so didn't cook in the time listed.Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

I was pleased that on Friday the OH came to work with me so I could do the pickups from the banks where there were food deposit boxes. And we were supposed to deliver a couple of dinners and a bag of goodies to a chap that sleeps rough but we couldn't find him so had to return to work with his portion. Someone managed to contact the chap who agreed to go to a meeting point and OH went off on his own to do the delivery. Chap forgot why he was going some place different and returned to his normal spot on the high street but OH managed to track him down so the delivery was completed.
I can't describe how pleased I am about this. Not just for the chap, but also for my OH who doesn't get out nearly enough and has, in my first 4 months in my job with the food bank, not wanted to engage at all due to an excess of sympathy for some of our clients. I'm a bit teflon on the sensitivity front and he makes up for that in spades and hasn't had the emotional fortitude to participate even in a minor social way so this was a good step forward.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. Brie - I didn't realise that you worked in a food bank - well done.
Yes a lot of folk who came to the meal live on their own - at least two people had lost their partner in the last year so were dreading a lonely Christmas.
Today is my first at home for 20 days - it has been so busy at SA leading up to Christmas Day. We have the week off as volunteers but breakfasts for rough sleepers will still be provided from 6.30 - 9 am.
