A very grey, wet and miserable day but cheered by a few chazza finds. All from the big Sue Ryder clothes and furniture shop - a b/n pack of 5 pairs of black ladies socks from TU for £2, a BNWT white, fine, long sleeved t-shirt - price tag of £8.50 attached, chazza price £1. Then a navy sleeveless top, crepe fabric, lined and with a neat jewelled mesh peter-pan collar - also £1. They seem to be having a clearout of stock to make room for the stuff flooding in so loads on the £1 rails. I was sorely tempted by a b/n, still in the box, pair of Carvela pawsh trainers but at £25 and not being able to try them on I talked myself out of them. The local community shop had a load of Tu ankle boots....all b/n and priced at £8. Was tempted by a pair of tan leather chelsea-type boots but again not able to try on and also the fact that they were pull-on, (such a struggle without a side zip!), so I left those too.3

My obliviousness is now explained as TV just doesn't interest me these days, thanks for that.Nargleblast said:The Kingsman is a splendid film starring Colin Firth as a secret agent working for an independent security service, lots of action, gadgets, humour and adventure. Better than James Bond, even. It's on Netflix.
Am feeling rather poorer this afternoon as I managed to drop and break my pestle this morning and so set off on a marathon chazza search to see if I could replace it with or without a mortar after lunch. Sadly, I was unlucky and have had to purchase a new one for the eye wincing sum of £16.99 on the way home as I decided earlier that I couldn't do without one for even a day. I'm quite sure I shall see several over the next few weeks and am preparing to be philosophical about this, after all I could have made dressings and spice pastes etc. with the broken one it just would have been horribly awkward.
I did manage not to purchase various items such as empty Fortnums Biscuit tins and shaped ice trays and so on so there's that. I also didn't go near the books because I was very wet due to the weather so that helped reduce the temptation as well.
Thank heavens for having an emergency fund, a back-up emergency fund, a treat fund and an accident replacement fund too, they are such a comfort when I drop something. Night all, goldfinches.5 -
And impeccable tailoring.Nargleblast said:The Kingsman is a splendid film starring Colin Firth as a secret agent working for an independent security service, lots of action, gadgets, humour and adventure. Better than James Bond, even. It's on Netflix.
There's now a second Kingsman film.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.5 -
Absolutely - bought for reference/curiosity - wouldn't include them in the Covid kit! Still dickering as to what to use In The Event. (Anyone making off with my Ode will have a Nasty Relapse, respiratory complications of pillow being clamped into place.) May agree on Boston if we're sure everyone can differentiate between that and Imperial Blue.Pollycat said:both are very 'pretty, pretty',3 -
Gahhhhh just been to the Ecco shop near me and bought a pair of shoes for £2.50. they are these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Think-83259-Aida-Womens-Pumps/dp/B00J00W3YM?th=1
leather, and SO comfy. Mine are burgandy rather than black, with a more Victorian-style buckle. So happy! All their clothes are a £1 and shoes/coats priced individually.
Also found two sealed Uniqlo Heat tech short-sleeved t-shirts for £3 each in Sue Ryder. Not in colours I would choose, but given I will be WFH all winter and don't want the heating on all day I can wear these under things and be grateful!5 -
Was passing the big CRUK clearance, (nothing over £3), shop today so couldn't resist calling in. Came away with a nice Jasper Conran cobalt blue, sleeveless, fitted dress. Perfect length and if it had had sleeves it would be 100% perfect! I saw it last week and dismissed it as possibly being too tight but was in the mood to take a chance today and it's a perfect fit. I normally wait a few days before trying things on, but could not resist today. (Do you all quarantine your finds I wonder??) Very pleased with this £3 spend. My 'only the price of a cup of coffee" mantra has been temporarily raised to £3.75 due to the seasonal appearance of spiced pumpkin latte!5

I didn't quarantine my Denby, but did apply soap & water.
How'd the Cath Kidston bag with the leather piping come up, Pollycat?5 -
If I thought our Young Hero would listen, I would. That he has the height & build to wear a suit with style (and had a phase of being a very picky & consequently snappy dresser when younger - dash this present fad for laxity of turnout), just adds to the frustration. However, he's absolutely not minded to pay attention to any parent, so while Peak Steampunk may undoubtedly have passed, as a festive gift another (really handsome) bowler rarely goes amiss. (Well, so I am assured by a godfather's girlfriend, who enjoys these things when gatherings are permitted.) A good solid hatbox & we'll watch the bids crawl along...Owain_Moneysaver said:. tell Middleson it's very Kingsman. I think we've passed peak steampunk.
Meanwhile the gentleman who shops in suit, tie, mask, polished shoes & leaves his walking stick hooked over the shopping trolley & I exchange twinkling (& on my side Deeply Appreciative) glances, and we tactfully ignore the minion in T shirt & scruffs.4 -
Laura Ashley cotton shirt

I reckon the next national lockdown will be for 3 weeks in November so getting out and about now.5 -
i was was very tempted by a Topshop tweed coat for £9 today but left it because I couldn’t try it on. Glad I did because later on I found a lovely black velvet M and S coat for £7 which I can swirl around in like a vampire. I do like tweed but I think I’m more velvet and I hate anything itchy.
Also a lovely Waitrose big teacup £1.5
