More Charity Shop Bargains for 2018 & beyond!

Nice to see so many charity  shops reopening. Thanks to all of you here working in them, and coping with horrible 'donations'. Yuck. We're not up to full complement in my North Norfolk area but I managed to come home with some suction fixed bath grab rails which will be a great help for my old bod. Tomorrow I plan to venture into Norwich. Does anyone know which shops are open there?

Spotted a lovely pair of Ralph Lauren stone coloured trousers in a chazza in Thirsk on Thursday.  Could not bring myself to pay the £9 asking price even tho they were new.  Then could not stop thinking about them and doing the  ‘only the price of a couple of coffees and a cake’ ...... ‘would have cost £70+ in a proper shop‘ ......’would pay more in M & S’ routine.  Yep, I went back on Saturday and got them!  Also got a matching pair of Swan brand saucepans for £5 each.  Came up as good as new after a good clean.  Most of the chazzas I visited in Thirsk, Ripon And Northallerton are now open but have stopped taking donations.  Did manage to find one to take my coat clearout tho. 😊

Had another successful lunchtime on the chazzer-trail, it was boiling but well worth a quick scoot round. I bought a huge bag of curtain hooks, a couple of new small click-lock containers, a sturdy citrus squeezer / zester in a box (not seen this design before, I think its Korean / Japanese) and a small hanging picture frame for just 20p each, 6 books at 20p each and one at 25p so that was a total bargain at £2.45.

The next shop was slightly pricier - bought an Aldi No 14 Velvet Rose candle for £2.50 (usually sell at about £4 and I wouldn't have spent that much on one but this was a treat) and a really unusual round glass decorative container for £3. Its not usually the kind of thing I go for, but it matches my bathroom perfectly and I'll stick a candle in it. So nearly £8 spent in total, but worth it I think.

A visit to the big Sue Ryder warehouse type shop today was torture due to a combination of mask wearing and the heat - had to go outside for a few minutes to get fresh(er) air and remove mask for a little while, then of course had to re-sanitise again on the way back in.  Anyhoo, was all worth it as I found a nice Monsoon cotton dress in a fitted stylee, pale impressionistic flowery pattern on a grey background.  Perfect fit and priced at £3.75.  Then I got a pale blue lawn top by Wolsey with smocky front panels, a drawstring waist and elbow length sleeves for £4.50....a little overpriced perhaps but so perfect for this sort of weather.  This is proving to be a dangerous shop as I am sure that someone has had a major declutter who is my size & height and also has a penchant for Hobbs, Reiss, Phase Eight, Monsoon etc. - must limit my visits as it could prove to be expensive!!!!!

If you haven't been shopping for the last six months though you can buy more things and not put your annual average up. And if you offset your purchases by donating items, one in one out, it's not buying new stuff it's just refreshing your wardrobe.

I've only recently started going out and about again.

I've been in about half a dozen different charity shops and simply can't get interested in looking.

I feel as if I'm making up for all the lost chazza shopping time during lockdown!  Yesterday's tripette out* resulted in me purchasing a pair of Country Casuals, lined, white linen, straight legged/high waisted trousers for £1.90.  They were on the half price rail in the community shop and I had preciously been tempted by them but decided to wait to see if they would be reduced.  Also, in the big Sue Ryder shop, which is currently my downfall, I got a fab BNWT large Chinese heavy silk scarf, about a metre square in shades of burgundy with pale pink and lilac flowers.  I was dubious about the 'pure silk' claim but after doing a bit of research and giving it a light iron I'm fairly sure it is silk.  Cost was £3.50 and more than I would normally pay but I just loved it and have the perfect winter coat to go with it.

I really could do with doing some Swedish Death Cleaning but I fear I would need to live to about 150 in order to accomplish it!!!

*  Going out this afty and I know I will be walking close to at least 2 charity shops
