Called into the community chazza this afternoon and got a small satchel stylee bag by The Leather Satchel Co in a tan coloured leather - price £5. Perfect size to carry a mini brolly, purse, wallet, phone, tissues etc. Just a slight bit of cracking of the surface of the leather on part of the strap but I will try and sort it with a bit of leather conditioning cream. It's this one:-

Ahem, I caved in and presented Albert with his chazza sourced Christmas heated bed - typical moggy, he was more interested in the box! He doesn't warm(!) to new things easily but will, no doubt, come round to it eventually. It was the major dramatic scene last night that prompted this......cat enters sitting room limping badly and with a woeful expression, (looks around to see if anyone is taking any notice), does a feeble, pale pink meow, flattapusses to the floor like a mini tiger skin rug, gives a deep sigh and closes eyes. 30 seconds later opens one eye to see if anyone is taking any notice, (human slave goes to fetch heated pet bed....). Vet says he has a slight touch of arthritis in his back legs and he is just a drama queen. Rattle a few Dreamies and he moves with the speed of an exocet missile! :rotfl:0 -

Tu cream knitted hat with ear flaps £1.50
Green flowery ceramic travel cup £20 -

I hope Albert is soon luxuriating in his new bed, it will do his joints the world of good - bless him.
I have a satchel from the same brand, mine is a large one with the traditional buckles, I got mine on ebay for £8 almost new, I do find it a bit stiff but I love it all the same. I did see one in a CS, it looked new, tan colour like mine but the logos were different, same name but just different, they wanted £30 for it.Debt Free and now a saver, conscious consumer, low waste lifestyler

Wow, you really got a bargain....if it's one of those 'school style' satchels they are priced from £120 to £160, new, on the website  Does yours have some weird black stuff backing the leather? When I first spotted my new bag I dismissed it as 'faux' leather cos of that...it was when I noticed the silver stamping behind the front flap and the embossed writing on the back that I became more interested. Also, have you had any problems with the leather cracking....been looking at some on eBay and quite a few seem to have this problem?
Updated P.S. Well, what a nice surprise...I emailed The Leather Satchel Co this afternoon asking if there was anything I could do to prevent any further cracking of the leather - got an almost instant reply explaining why it happens and how and offering to send me, free of charge, a leather care kit which normally costs £15! What great customer service especially bearing in mind the bag only cost me a fiver :T0 -
I have bought a couple of cook books, hard back and good quality from eb@y recently, very happy with my purchases as combined new price was 55 quid and I got them both delivered for under 4!
Do anyone of you buy from a charity shop to make a profit? Just wondering?0 -
Oh that man! I stagger in after a heavy week & there is a Denby Ode 2 pint lidded casserole smiling up at me. (I gather some suitable contents are in a pan elsewhere.) Although I do now need to buy some more storage boxes as the floor area is finite & me fatigued can lurch dangerously.
We tend to buy to make a substantial saving on list price & widen the range whilst improving the quality of kit we get for ourselves & our children. Who have gone to Prom etc in suits retailing at over £350- whereas we had change from a tenner so when he'd outgrown it a month later, off it went to another happy home (slightly better labelled).0 -
miro - I am sat in front of my Christmas tree having a coffee at the moment but I will go upstairs and have a look at my satchel later and report back. I did give it a treatment of Dr Martens Balsam when I got it, I put this on all leather, I seem to remember it saying in the listing it had some cracking to the top where the flap bends over but you needed a microscope to see it when I looked. How lovely of them to send you a kit, I think they want the bags to last a very long time from what their website says, not a throwaway brand.
DFV - we're the same with brands, the kids especially are going about in brands I would never buy new for them, they get looked after then donated back later. DD is going to work today in a 100% wool Tommy Hilfiger fairisle jumper from the 90's which she paid £4.50 for, you can't get a jumper in the Mecca of carp beginning with P and ending in K for that.Debt Free and now a saver, conscious consumer, low waste lifestyler

No way! Just couldn't be doing with the hassle. Anyhoo, for me it's all about the thrill of the find/appreciating quality that I could not afford otherwise and getting a buzz from finding a bargain for myself. Good luck to people who do tho....you can always recognise them in the chazza shops cos they tend not to take any notice of sizings!DigForVictory wrote: »We tend to buy to make a substantial saving on list price & widen the range whilst improving the quality of kit we get for ourselves & our children. Bit of a gruesome story.....a few years ago the body of a woman was found in woodland near a lay-by here. There was nothing to identify who she was and police put out appeals saying she must have been wealthy and well to do as she was wearing expensive quality designer clothing. I thought at the time how wrong they could be.....:o0 -
Dropped DD off at work this morning and had a wander around town. I got two gold glittery star decorations for my tree 50p each, I know they have lots of decorations much cheaper than this but I don't actually like baubles which seems to be what they have the most of. Got 3 paperbacks for £1, one of which is my favourite Dickens novel - Great Expectations. Got DD a rather lovely handmade planter in grey ceramic with a lovely pattern, this is for Christmas, paid £1.49 for that.
Also got a hand knitted arran bobble hat in cream, great for channelling my inner 80 year old, £3, a packaway shopping bag to replace one of mine which is ancient and on it's last legs, sort of an oilcloth fabric and comes in it's own pouch, this was BN, £1.80. A John Smedley pullover in british racing green, v neck, 100% extra fine Merino wool and Made in England £1 and lastly a pack of 4 BNIB red linen napkins with rings £1.Debt Free and now a saver, conscious consumer, low waste lifestyler
