Probably for the first time ever I bought an item today that is worth a little summat!

It was in the 50 pence basket- a nice little white oven-to-tableware type dish (think cauliflower cheese maybe?) Anyway bought it for friend's daughter who is a musician because the pattern has a couple of intertwined horns.
When I got home and washed it noticed a manufacturer's mark on base. Bingo! Royal Worcester- mid 50's pattern Fiesta. Probably worth £20 or so. But I'm still giving it away.........

Part of the joy of charity shop finds are that you can delight in them, wear them, cook in them, sell them on, and/or give them away & none of the fun is lost.

Indeed, I find it helps (when coshed into tidying up), to think of all the happy people who are going to Enjoy these things.

That I do sometimes get wide eyed looks of "ye gods you didn't, did you?" (pay full whack for this) adds to the spring in my step....

The red dress went back to the same charity shop after a dry clean - just seemed right somehow!

I had a wander around one of the charity shops in Matlock at the weekend but didn't buy anything. More in a donating frame of mind at the moment, and have some decent stainless steel sauce pans to clean up so they can go to the local Air Ambulance shop, after we bought a new set.

I also used to use moisturiser on leather - a darn sight cheaper than the proper horsey brand stuff.

Some really pretty bits of costume jewellery - I think it is Indian in origin - for a craft project. Most pieces were 20p, which seemed very cheap.

On the other hand, whoever is pricing the children's clothing now has big ideas. Used baby dresses from supermarkets were £2. Baby vests were £1 each. And a pair of trousers with the shop tag still on was priced at £7: half the shop price, but I doubt anybody will want to pay that.
I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.

A serendipitous find today in the local community shop......:)

Last Sunday I heard someone of Radio 4 talking about a book called 'Archy and Mehitabel' created in 1916 by Don Marquis. It consists of humorous verses and short stories about a cockroach called Archy and an alley cat called Mehitabel and they were first published in the Evening Sun in New York. I really liked the sound of the book and so I had a squiz on Amazon to see if it was available. It was but I dithered and when I went back all copies had been sold.....I guess some other people were as taken with the programme as I was. So anyhoo today I sailed through the community shop bookshop to get to the bric a brac at the back when my eye was drawn to the word Mehitabel on the spine of a book....could not believe my eyes....there was the very book I wanted! Rather bashed, an ex-library book, but still very readable. So pleased...gonna save it to read over Christmas as no doubt the telly progs will be dire.....:p

    It's glorious - you're in for a treat.
Very wise to squirrel it against the Christmas "entertainment" offerings.
I still look at the Caps Lock key with a certain grin some days. Which will all make more sense in another 3 weeks...

I had a similar experience last week, I was looking online for a book for DD for Christmas but decided I woul have a couple of weeks looking for it in the charity shops, second shop I went in had a copy for 49p.

On Tuesday I saw a jacket in the Salvation Army shop, I left it and then went back yesterday to get it. It is a Caldene riding jacket, it is the Belvoir Ladies Derby Tweed which is £440 online, this years colour is greeny brown whilst mine is blue/grey, it is made to order in England (hence the price), perfect condition and just £4.99. I do ride as does DD but we won't be wearing this for riding it will be worn as a tweed blazer.

    The riding jacket sounds amazing!

Less fab but still a bargain I got a gant ladies shirt today. I paid £1 and it’s on the website for £85. I’m quite busty but the shirt has stretch so I’m hopeful. I also got 5 books for £1, a Gino decampo one, a downton abbey book, a cupcake book, a jo jo moyes one and one by Harriett Evans. The jo jo moyes and downton will make their way into dd2 stocking (I’m at the bulking out with cheap stuff stage) the cup cake one will be in DD3 stocking and I will have the other 2. Finally I got a cardboard vr headset for dd3 to have a go with on her iPhone and EKU beer glass flute which dh spotted and has nabbed and a bar of fancy french soap that is on a website for €6.99 this was £1 for all three items. The soap will make its way into MIL stocking, it’s nicely boxed and smells lovely and will again be there for bulking out purposes.
  • Love reading about everyone's bargains!

Slim pickings for me recently, but today I was very much in luck! Posh market town visit which has 3 charity shops. As ever, south-east of England so south-east pricing...Got some fabulous bargains:

    - Christmas jumper, £4.95 Partner announced the other evening he fancied a Christmas jumper. I told him I'd find him one in a charity shop - no point buying new just to wear for a few hours. And today I found a jumper with the tags still on in his size! It's a ludicrous penguin one. Will be redonated for next year.

    - A Gerry Weber puffer jacket for £7.50. These retail about 150 euros or so. Grey and blue, very nicely cut. Lightweight and with a hood.

    - A Woolovers cream cable knit cardigan for £4. Not a thing of style but Woolovers are highly rated for quality. This looks unworn and has the spare button still attached to the label. 100% wool of course. I wouldn't buy this new but happy to spend £4 on it.

An Eisenegger rain jacket. I can't find much about this brand online - in fact, I think it has gone in to administration. This is a very smart black rainjacket in great condition. £8.50.

A Fenn Wright and Mason silk top for £5. It's 100% silk and olive green, my favourite colour. Not for wearing now as it isn't warm enough, It's a tunic style with slits up the side Good quality and nicely cut.

A black sheer blouse by a brand called Suzy Shier. Seems to be a US brand. Nicely cut and good for work.

A very thin polo neck undershirt. Navy blue, no label, £4. I am always short of tops to layer so this will get a lot of use over the next few weeks.

A pair of Gerard Darel 100% linen trousers. These are a size 14 and being designer they are very long. I didn't even try them on as they were £4 and I know this is an expensive brand - most of their trousers go for over £100 a pair. Navy blue, high-wasted, for the summer. Will put them away with much excitement!

And then: A pair of Ronit Zilkha trousers. These still have the label on, which is amazing, because it looks like this designer brand also went in to administration a few years ago. I might sell these as they are tight on me, although I don't want to as they are so beautiful. Brown, fully lined, 90% wool and 10% cashmere. I really am in two minds as to what to do with them! If I can lose a few more pounds they will be amazing, but I am curvy and designer clothes seem to be cut for straight and up and down shapes. Oh - they were £5.50, hence why I couldn't resist them.

I also bought a soft snood and a furry headband for £3 each.

What a day! Hope everyone is busy out hunting down more bargains... M100 X
