  • On Thursday popped into my local Sue Ryder for a quick look & picked up a pair of Nike trainers for £7, a quick google suggest they would have been about £80 new, thn today I popped in again & there was a pair of brighly coloured New Balance for £3.95 again basically new & unworn, which happened to be a perfect fit, another google suggest a new price of about £50. Think somebody with the same size feet must have had a clear out as there was a couple of pair of walk boots & more trainers in the same size
  • Not strictly charity shop but along similar lines, I went to the Clothes Exchange in Leeds yesterday. It costs £3 entry and you can take up to 20 items which must be in good condition as they are individually checked as you go in. If you take 20 items you can come out with 20 items all for £3 in total. Any credits you have are carried over to next time.

Amongst the stuff I got yesterday were a pair of Fred Perry lace up pumps which are black with white spots: A Gore running top, a lovely pair of Zara Basics black trousers, a pair of Saucony running shoes, a red Primark vest top for DD and a few other items.

I've thought about going to this a few times now but as DD wants to go to it would be £6 which is quite a lot when there is every possibility we might come away empty handed. BTW I have some Saucony running shoes and they are fab and pricey new.

Is this the one at the Woodhouse Community Centre or the one in the city centre? I’ve often thought about going too! I did go to a free one held at HEART in Headingley once but it wasn’t very good - I took loads but came away empty handed :(
Spent the week-end in Bedale so have been perusing the chazza delights of Thirsk, Ripon and Northallerton. Found a few bits of Denby Whisper to replace some breakages and also found a sweet little milk jug that I haven’t seen before in the same range. All pieces were priced at £1.50.

Went South to see my parents, and local redevelopment means both charity shops are utterly gone. Which raises all sorts of questions about and where are the kondo enthusiasts taking their not-joyful things.

My mother ruefully admitted that she drops off at a charity shop near her sister-in-law, on the other side of town... Summertown does not need "not quite my shade" delights, having plenty of that already, both new & through charitable outlets.

Delighted to hear Denby whisper finding a welcoming home, Miro!

It is the Woodhouse Centre one in answer to MiroMark2.

You could both go as one. My brother went with his girlfriend one time and didn't pay as he wasn't actually participating as such. Others bring their kids. The £3 is admin as they have to hire the hall and store things inbetween times. Sometimes we have gone and come away with loads of stuff and others just a few. The good thing is the credits carry over until you go again and if something doesn't look right or fit or you get bored with it you just take it back the next time. They do have a communal changing room there and a small cafe doing coffee/tea and biscuits for donations and a lady selling Asian food but that isn't terribly cheap.

If you accumulate to many credits you can 'donate' some of them for people fleeing violence or others in dire circumstances. They are then given 10 credits to come and get some clothes.
  • Craghoppers walking trousers for £4 (this is London pricing mind). Also some free entertainment from the really camp guy who works in my local, involving mauve baubles and cold weather.

Found a 'brand new in sealed box' heated pet bed today in the community chazza - priced at £3.50. Perfect for old arthritic Albert for Christmas! (Or should I give it to him now rather than have him wait?? After all the poor deprived old soul only has a fleecy bed that dangles from a radiator, a memory foam bed that sits right in front of the fire, and a self heating bed that he drags into sun puddles!):p

Bless him, cats do know how to live.

I popped into town before the school run and found two gorgeous glass candlesticks, quite tall in a sort of art deco design, £1.50 for the pair, these are for my table at Christmas, I just need to find a pack of festive taper candles now. Also got Confessions of a Shopaholic on dvd for 49p it was 5 for 49p but there weren't 4 more I wanted and you can't get a pack of crisps for that price so I was ok with that. This went into DD's birthday gift bag (birthday today) and she was very pleased. Lastly I got a wooden tree decoration, it is round and says Joy in nice script, I will be attaching it to my homemade wreath which I will be doing at the weekend - 75p paid.
