    A few bargains yesterday :

Two brand new sets of decimal counting rods for my primary-school-teacher-daugher’s class

Two Nigel Slater recipe books (real fast food, and real fast puddings), and a hardback book “Mowgli Street Food” (from the restaurant chain)

    A herb keeper

A set of lovely quality kitchen knives

Vintage Arcopal milk glass jug with lid on, Scania pattern (younger daughter has started collecting this)

A massive toolbox tote for Mister CJ

Two of those plastic coated metal shelves which are supposed to help organise your kitchen cupboards (but I use them to add more space for seed trays on the greenhouse staging)

A spiraliser (I’ve avoided these thus far but we do eat a lot of courgetti instead of pasta, and my food processor doesn’t really make strands as prettily as a spiraliser)

A pair of padded Thinsulate gloves, brand new, and a pair of beautifully soft black leather gloves.

    Approx £20 spent

Absolute haul of Halloween and Disney Princess/Star Wars/Marvel outfits for DS and DD (3yrs and 18mths) in current and future sizes. Especially impressed with Princess dresses from Disney store that are usually about £15-25, bought for £2.50 each or less.

all but one of our six CS in town always has a rail of costumes through October. Now they're going back into storage and all the Xmas clothing comes out. Get the kids great jumpers for the charity 'xmas jumper day' on Dec 13th this year, for less than £2 rather than brand new ones which are about £10 a go judging by what I've seen this week!!

They both enjoy dressing up and once done with I will pass them on to DS's preschool dressing up supply.

Halloween is turning into a nightmare waste wise and the fad for buying a bad Christmas jumper every year is crazy. The way you've done it is the right way imo.

Yesterday I bought a pack of 6 BNIB coasters from the Cotswolds, they have lovely farm animals on them - £1.

I studiously avoided looking at clothes and just looked at household items and books. I am really struggling to find a place to store all the coats and knitwear I have in my bedroom plus I have lots more coats and knitwear and every other conceivable garment packed away in the loft.

Yesterday I wore my new orange jumper but it was so toasty warm and the weather was pretty mild I had to take it off, it did look good though especially with a denim sleeveless shirt underneath.

What a shame Olio hasn’t taken off in your areas. In my bit of East Yorkshire the Sainsburys locals and costa coffees are on board. I collect from a costa twice a week and usually get between 5 and 7 items per time. I get to keep 1 and the others go on the app. There are always lots of items on there.

I digress, yesterday dh spotted some brand new timberland slip on shoes in his size. Quite pricey at £19.99 but with a rrp of £120 still a bargain. Despite fitting beautifully he was undecided until I suggested as an Xmas present from his mum. I’m in charge of her Xmas shopping so everyone is a winner.

I also got a looks new white stuff jumper for £7.50 and quite a lot of Laura Ashley fabric for £5

Set out looking for specific stuff this weekend & had low expectations but I managed to get a bnwt fluffy-lined zip-up hoodie to replace my one that fell apart this week AND two slim wooden dining chairs for £8 each so now the chairs fit under my new dining table.

    Also got a black lace top for £4, a running t-shirt for £1, a blue lace top for £1 & a £55 corduroy oversized shirt for £4!

Had to go to the post office so I called into the shops in town. I got DS a new sweatshirt, it's a Matalan one in orange with some printing on the front - £1.99 and for me a Sainsburys scented candle, I can't remember the fragrance but it is in a very pretty floral jar with a cork lid which I will use for other things after burning - £2.

    The spending spree continues :o

A trip to the optician necessitated going past several charity shops and I ended up getting a dusky purple*, fine needlecord skirt by Country Casuals. As new, mid calf length and in fitted panels with a little flippy out thing going on at the hemline, Martin House Hospice Shop, £3. Then in the Mind shop I found a b/n Viyella, classic stylee silky shirt in cream, (not actually silk but a good quality polyester mix), £4.

I seem to have a thing about purple lately....reminds me of the poem 'When I am an old woman I shall wear purple......' by Jenny Joseph:rotfl:
  • Lebanese food cookery book, hardback, as new. Should have been 25p but the shop volunteer short changed me by 10p so it cost 35p. Didn't make an issue of it.

I love that poem. Sometimes I find blouses and shirts which I am convinced are silk until I read the label, they do feel really similar.

The scent of the candle I got yesterday is Foxglove & Wild Daisy.

Just wondering if you have found any inspirational ways of re-using these candle jars? I sometimes treat myself to one of those Jo Malone lookee likee/smellee likee candles from Aldi that come in beautiful heavy plain glass jars with silver lids. They are far too nice to just chuck away but after using several as storage/display for cotton buds/balls and other assorted stuff in the bathroom I am stumped now for ideas. The faint remaining smell of perfume puts me off using them as food related storage..... :(

    Apologies for going O/T:o
